“Excellent Value and Location!”
Reviewed 15 October 2013

My husband and I stayed at the Plaza Hotel on a stopover on our way to Vancouver from Edmonton. We have stayed at the Accent Inn before on the way to Vancouver, but a special from booking.com bought us to the Plaza and we are so happy we stayed here. Not only was the hotel less expensive, but the special also included breakfast. The downtown location is still really easy to access from the highway and the hotel has a lot of character. Our room was small, but clean and comfortable. The hotel is within walking distance to restaurants (see my review of Quila's). We also enjoyed a few pints of Stanley Park lager at the hotel bar, Fireside Steakhouse, after dinner and the breakfast the next morning at the restaurant was outstanding. Your breakfast voucher gets you a full hot breakfast with free range eggs, local bacon and fresh bread (you have to love BC).

Tips:
-The hotel is older with a "vintage" style elevator and to access some of the rooms you have to walk up a few additional steps after getting off the elevator. So if you have mobility issues, just ask for a room nearby the elevator.
-Parking is at a nearby public lot (it costs $5 to park your car overnight). Use common sense and take your belongings inside as the hotel is located downtown.
-Make sure you have cash to leave a tip at breakfast. The voucher covers the meal but not the tip and the server we had was by herself the morning we had breakfast. She was super friendly and worked her butt off so I was really glad we had cash on hand to leave a decent tip.

Like other reviewers I was offered this hotel accommodation as part of a Silver Leaf travel package on the Rocky Mountaineer train tour. We arrived in Kamloops later than anticipated around 8pm on a Saturday night and were required to be on the coach next morning at 6.15am. I was offered a small but neat room facing the street on the third floor. I returned to my room following a late dinner down the street only to find loud music playing downstairs. This continued until midnight and from then until 2.40am there was a serious of drunken people out the from of the hotel yelling at each other at the top of their voices. Failed to get to sleep until after 3am and had to be up at 5am. Although I realize the hotel has little control over drunken patrons on the street, they should have called the police and had them removed at least. Would not recommend staying at this hotel if you are a light sleeper and will be referring my concerns to Rocky Mountaineer tour organizers also to make them aware for future patrons.

The staff was very cordial and efficient - the hotel is quite old and has been upgraded - my room facing the street was small - but adequate - the lock on the door was not as safe as I would prefer but everything was very clean and the bed was great. Many nice restaurants nearby and all within walking distance. We arrived late via the Rocky Mountaineer so the shops were closed.
No a/c so room was very warm for sleeping.

Room Tip: My friends had a corner suite and said it was very spacious.

My 12 year old daughter and I were lucky enough to go on the Rocky Mountaineer in July this year, and we spent one night in the Plaza Hotel Kamloops as part of our trip from Vancouver to Calgary. We found the hotel to be very centrally located, with many nice resaurants nearby. The locals are obviously used to the RM passengers stopping there en route. Our room was well-equipped, with a kettle and an iron (not that we ironed much on our trip!) The hotel also provides "Have you forgotten...?" basic toiletries - a great idea when you're only staying the one night and you haven't packed everything you might need. There was a dispenser full of punch at the front reception (cranberry juice, OJ and soda water) in the foyer, which was a refreshing inclusion at the end of a long day. The only slight drawback-and it is really minor, was that there was no power outlet close to the coffee-making machine. Also, there was some background noise outside the hotel (top floor) all night. Perhaps a motor running?? Anyway, we put in our earplugs and had a good night's rest...

Stayed here as part of an organised Tour. Beautiful old renovated building (one of the places on the historical walk). First impression of the room was SMALL but once we settled in it had everything we needed and was very comfortable (size in this case DIDN'T matter). Handy to everything (walking). Staff were very friendly.
Bonus: markets on the same street the day we left.

Booked two nights at the Plaza at short notice. Got an upgrade into a family room that gave us more space at the end of a long road trip around Western Canada. Much appreciated gesture.

At first glance this historic hotel is quite charming even with modern renovations. Made a good first impression especially the service we received from Matt on the front desk. Has a pretty good restaurant and bar.

Comfy beds and good view from the fourth floor room.

Great location in the heart of downtown Kamloops with lots of eateries and shopping nearby.

Loved it would definitely stay there again.
