“Service was impeccable!!”
Reviewed 17 November 2010

I stayed here last week while on business in Kelowna and for the rate charged I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else. I know, that sounds like a cliché, but it's true. Same goes for my ratings - I'm not handing out five stars easily, trust me. I've had my share of not so great hotel experiences ...A week before thatI had stayed at an adjacent hotel and for an extra $50 I was taken to the cleaners by the horrendous service and dirty rooms.

To Howard Johnson: aside from its great location right along the Hwy 97 - easy exit heading out of kelowna and close enough to Downtown Kelowna, I can't praise the friendliness and helpfulness of its staff enough - thanks J at the front desk!. Everybody I've had the pleasure of meeting there is constantly creating an atmosphere they are commited to make this palce work despite its transition aka renovation and re- branding and ofcourse giving the other motels a run for their money. The Howard Johnson staff doesn't carry the "You should be thankful that you can stay at our hotel" attitude but instead they are abundantly inviting and friendly.

The rooms are quiet and comfortable and even and whereas there is no breakfast ( what do you expect when you pay $59).

All in all, I can't imagine staying anywhere else during my on Business trips to Kelowna - its a great place and kudos to a family making a go at the Canadian dream!

The Wyndham folks show their true colors charging those foolish enough to trust their HoJo brand to stay at this run down former mom and pops flop house on Kelowna's main drag while they renovate it when their Days Inn is next door. The pilled comforters and rotten sheets had us wondering when the cockroaches would start coming out the holes in the wall. No in room coffee, no pool, no amenities other than the wifi, the rooms are crowded and poorly appointed. No frills is a generous description. The parking lot looks like it would be that of a building materials good will store as it is cluttered with what they've torn out and what they're putting in as they try to bring this place up to snuff.

We were lured in by the false sense of security that the Howard Johnson name carried, thinking that we would be staying at a family friendly location, however we found ourselves in a disastrous dump. Prior to our stay at this place we called in advance to specify that we would need an extra clean room for our one year old Asthmatic son. We were assured that the room was newly renovated and clean.

When we pulled into this run down place, we were extremely confused by the very dark parking lot that we could not even see across (we felt a little worried about our safety). Too make matters worse, the parking lot and sidewalk surrounding the building was like a graveyard of old furniture and carpets (not very safe for small children to even walk). We were even more confused to walk into the main doorway and see that "Wayside Inn" or something to that effect was still etched into the main window (we kind of thought that before having a grand opening, the old name would have been removed! Makes good business sense! Don't you think?)

Going against our initial impression of the hotel, as we had already prebooked a room, and it was very late, we decided to see what surprises our room would hold for us... hoping for something half decent! (after all it was recently renovated!) Well, we had our surprise all right! The "completely renovated" room, actually was just the bathroom. The furniture, carpet and bedding all looked as if it was original from when the place was first built! (old and hardly the clean carpet we needed for our infant asthmatic son!) To make matters worse, we could hear multiple conversations from our different neighbours through the walls and people's footsteps in the hall. Even though, it was eleven o'clock at night by this point we decided to leave for the safety of our son's health. We would rather have had no room that night than this one!

When we went to the desk to complain, we were told there was no way the room was not clean as it had been "gutted" and completely redone (it was very obvious that this was not the case!) We were treated very rudely and did not even get a refund! The management was even worse than the hotel itself!!!) By the way we did find a brand new hotel with modern everything for $10 more across the street!

However, Howard Johnson the chain did come through and resolved this issue, so our complaint is only with this location!

Stayed two nights en route to Vancouver. Thought it would be fine given the HoJo name but this place is a dump. The room was cramped, dated and dirty. The bathroom looked renovated but not the best workmanship. The A/C unit was clunky and totally inadequate to cool the room - we roasted all night (didn't help we were on 2nd floor). Very poor sound insulation - could hear highway even though we were at the back AND could hear people walking in hallway. Staff was friendly enough but completely unknowledgeable about the area when asked something as simple as "where are the nearby beaches". The free breakfast consisted of day-old muffins, only 4L of juice for all the guests and apples/bananas. Even after "renovations" I can't see this place being up to HoJo standards. My advice for those enticed by the cheaper prices - Pay the extra $10/night and stay at other hotels nearby. This place is NASTY.

Overall the room was bright, clean and quiet. The beds were mostly comfortable. The air conditioner blew cold air directly on the person in the bed next to it and made for an uncomfortable sleep until we rigged up a way to deflect the cold air up and away from the person in the bed. This hotel was in a state of renovations so there was materials laying outside. Our room had been renovated but workmanship was not the best. There was paint spots on the new carpet and tile. The wood frame on one side of the mirror was unfinished. Caulking around the tub was not adequate.

a stay in this hotel during thelast stretch of our holidays completely destroyed our holdays, the carpets were filthy, the receptionist was on a personal phone call upon our arrival, the rooms were filthy, stained carpets, stinky rooms, stained tub and moldy tiles. There was garbage strewn in front of the hotel. When I asked the owner to vaccum the rooms at least he got extremely aggressive and threatening. The owner stood by the door smoking cigarrets and had real bad BO..would not wish any one a stay in this hotel.

we stayed at Howard Johnson for two nights, and had a wonderful stay... The room we stayed in was recently renovated (nice new bathroom and new furniture). The hotel was right beside Hwy 97, which made it easy for us to go to different places. Another great thing about the hotel was its fast wireless internet. The service at the hotel was excellent as well and they were great in accommodating our requests..
