“Don't come for the breakfast”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

The rooms are fine. The exercise equipment is fine. The staff are pleasant. The highway is not an issue. Good location and easy to find. It's exactly what you would expect from a Ramada. I travel for business and often look for somewhere with a continental breakfast as I don't usually have the time (or appetite) for a full meal. Maybe it was just the time I was there, but between the stale looking white bread and limited fruit, it was not worth it. I grabbed a (very green) banana and headed over the Starbucks.

This hotel is just five years old and is well- located near the downtown. Our room was very spacious, but the washroom was tiny and the towels needed updating as they were visibly old. The bed was comfortable, but the linens, were in need of a change as they were tired and old. The complimentary breakfast exceed our expectations - fresh DIY waffles, eggs and sausage, fruit, cereal, juice and coffee. The staff was excellent - very pleasant and hospitable. I would recommend that you ask for a room on the back side of the hotel. The hotel is right on the busy highway and there was traffic noise all night.

We arrived late and we were checked in and in our room in 5 minutes. The staff was friendly and helpful. They have a night security guard. We had a great sleep. I liked the balcony as it made the room feel more open. The breakfast was convenient, typical hotel with breakfast food. I suggest they replace the juice machine with the tacky press harder signs and get another toaster. The design of the breakfast space creates a problem with only a few people there so I would be reworking it for the busier times. I was just happy with the convenience of breakfast being available.

Nice hotel, rooms are very spacious, the beds were a little on the firm side. The toilet made a squealing noise every time we flushed. The rooms were clean, the breakfast could use a little upgrade. The AC unit was good. Friendly staff. Being right on the hwy we were concerned about noise, but we fell right asleep. All in all we were quite happy

We stayed in Nanaimo for one night and it is the only night that we had not per booked, so when we got into town we drove around looking at our options. Most places looked old and the few that I did go into to ask if they had openings still, they were old and shabby on the inside as well, so we passed on about four other ones and kept looking. We then drove by the Ramada and were pleasantly surprised at the look of it, inside and out, the girl at he front desk was friendly and the price was reasonable. Our room was very nice, nice decor, very clean and comfy new beds. We were very happy with our stay!

The Ramada Nanaimo is an unremarkable hotel that offers clean, basic accomodations for an attractive price. Breakfast is included but expect only the standard fare like toast, muffins, cereal and apples and from the grill some very odd sausage and egg patties that the more creative can imagine to be the workings of an egg McMuffin. The location is just outside of the downtown Nanaimo business district and can be accessed by about a 20 minute walk down Rosehill Street and then along the waterfront promenade. There is a White Spot family restaurant about a 10 minute walk south on Terminal Avenue and a 7-11 convenience store about a 5 minute walk north on Terminal Avenue. The hotel fronts onto Terminal Avenue which is a busy street and street noise is an issue for the rooms that face the street. Our room, 313 ( third floor ) was somewhat noisy. Nonetheless, for travellers on a budget and wanting the convenience of an intown location then the Ramada Nanaimo is a reasonable choice. Three Stars.

Room Tip: Rooms away from Terminal Avenue ( those at the back of the hotel ) will likely be quieter.
