Good place for an early ferry crossing overnight stay. By the sea front with nice maritime walk opposite by the marina and to the park. Bedroom large and airy with two queen beds. Good size bathroom. Friendly reception and bar staff. With early crossing didn't sample breakfast and had dinner from a fish shack by the marina which was fun, although hotel gad it's own restaurant. Nanaimo is quiet but pleasant.

This was our 4th visit to this hotel and we stayed for 3 nights. The rooms are immaculate, the staff are professional and courteous, and the views were fantastic. The room was extra large and furnished nicely.
We would highly recommend this hotel and will certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the Harbor side are larger and have fantastic views.

We booked this hotel direct with them...taking advantage of their discounted rate for two nights. Four of us in a room including us and the two boys.
Took the ferry from Horsehoe Bay to Nanaimo...hotel was really easy to find and get to.
Staff at hotel very kind and helpful. If travelling by hire car the hotel has underground parking attached to the hotel at a reasonable overnight rate.
Very contemporary hotel which looks a lot better inside than from the outside. Could not find any fault with this hotel...had a decent sized room with a great view over the harbour front. Small shopping mall within easy reach of the hotel and only a couple of minutes walk to the pleasant harbour front.
Not too much to do in Nanaimo...it was only a stopping off point for us...if I had to stay here again I would definitely use this hotel...top marks !!..only knocked a star off as did not find Nanaimo too exciting

Room Tip: Go for a room overlooking the bay...

Stayed here on August 3rd and ended up staying for another night it was so nice! Got a room on the 14th floor, room 1405. It's always nice when you request a room on the highest floor possible and they come through! The hotel has 15 floors so I was quite happy upon arrival. Loved the view overlooking the harbor and the city, it was such a treat to wake up to such a beautiful scene. You can even go out on a small balcony if you want. The room was very clean and the bed was super comfortable. Fridge was stocked which was a bonus. Bathroom was nice and very clean. Parking isn't the best but one must remember they are downtown and there is room to park and unload luggage before finding a parking place underground. I was there on the long weekend and was able to find a place to park with no issues. My only complaint is that the housekeeping staff didn't restock the items that had been used the night before, maybe it was overlooked but if you want more of the same it might be handy to leave a note! Overall had a great experience at this hotel and would highly recommend it.

the room had a little foyer with a small sculpture in the door area, I really liked the set up of the room. everything appeared clean and smelt it also. you can also get a great deal if you book 30+ days in advance through their call centre. I will definitely consider them next time I'm in BC...good quality toiletries too!complicated

Room Tip: not all rooms have a fridge so if that's important, make sure to confirm

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights for business. The hotel was excellent. I cannot complain. I stayed in room 1402 and had the most beautiful 180 views of the city and harbor. My room was very large with large bathroom. Hotel is upgraded with all the modern features. Bed was super comfortable. There is even a little sitting area with a day bed from which you can enjoy the beautiful room. Compared to the hotel next door definitely a few steps up!
I ate at the hotel and food was very good. Try the clam chowder and the nanaimo bar cheescake.

Cons: AC was noisy and internet service was not good. Wifi kept cutting off.

Otherwise: excellent stay.

Room Tip: Get a corner suite.

In case you are a first time visitor to Nanaimo, this is a large town, and this is a city hotel. Parking is underground and not free. The Bastion is a multi-story hotel in downtown Nanaimo. I had been led to believe that I was heading toward a quaint place on the beach. The hotel is not along the water, and I saw no beach. There is a harborwalk across the street, and shops are behind the hotel. The room was clean and neat with a collection of treats with candy bars being $3 each. A rather snooty front desk attendant acted as if we were insulting him by checking in. If you are looking for accommodations in an urban environment, this hotel would be fine. We were told about Nanaimo bars and totally enjoyed this local treat at Mon Petit Choux.
