“Excellent boardwalk”
Reviewed 6 September 2013

Very pleasant walk, well maintained and picturesque views. Had great fun watching and speaking to the fishermen catching crab, often with their families on the public fishing pier. Very reasonable parking rates.

“Lots to do for the whole family”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

There are so many things to do along this walkway you might have trouble deciding where to start. You can spend the whole day here or just a couple of hours.

Start by finding a place to park. There’s a free lot at the end of Cliff Street at Mafeo Sutton Park and a pay lot off Front Street. Both fill up quickly in the summer.

Mafeo Sutton Park has a large children’s play area, an artificial tidal lagoon pool, food vendor and washrooms. From here you can take a nice walk over the “Lions Great Bridge” and along the seawall to the Nanaimo yacht club or head in the other direction towards the ferry docks. This is where you can catch the foot ferry to Newcastle Park and Dinghy Dock Pub. As you walk along there are more things to do like fish off the pier, take a seaplane, browse the fresh seafood market and souvenir shops, visit the Bastion blockhouse or stop at one of the many cafes. The walkway is not far from the quaint downtown shopping area so you can also head up Bastion Street for more shopping options.

A great place to spend a few hours or the whole day when visiting Nanaimo.
