The Met Hotel is the only place to stay in New Westminster. The staff Chris, Shawn and the others were all great ambassadors for both The Met and New Westminster. They gave terrific suggestions for places to eat and shop locally.
We were only in the Vancouver area for the weekend; however, the convenience to the Columbia SkyTrain (996 and 999) to downtown or the New Westminster Station with attached mall made being way out in "New West" so easy.
The upgraded Deluxe room meant that we had a room in the front (SkyTrain station is directly behind) with a view of the street, Fraser River and Surrey. Being on the top floor was probably the quietest in the hotel. We were in room 434 which was close to the elevator and the only bad time for noise was late night when the bar(s) closed and loud talking people returned to their rooms. The views from the room windows has been posted in the photo section.
There is a wonderfully bright common area, under the rooftop skylights, where you can read and relax in surprising comfort and quiet.
We will certainly stay at The Met whenever we need to stay in downtown New Westminster.

Room Tip: Top floor for quiet, with the skytrain station behind and the main street in the front, opt for a fr...

My sister and I were pleased with the tall ceilings and comfortable beds and fresh white linens. The staff were helpful and caring people who looked out for us and gave us advice and support in our stay of March 2 to 12, 2014. The location was perfect for transportation to and from Royal Columbian Hospital where my sister had surgery. The view from our windows of room 436 was magical at night with all the lights reflecting on the river and the activity in the day time made for interesting speculation where all those logs and barges were going. We enjoyed the near by shops and restaurants. A special thanks to Jen, Jenny, Chris and Sean who became our good friends during our stay!!!!

Room Tip: the top floor has the best view but the walls are thin. This was only an issue on three nights out o...

I stayed at The Met Hotel for nine nights in March. I'd be lying if I didn't say I was slightly disappointed with the appearance, as I had the images from the website as my expectation. Though, it wasn't too bad. I stayed in room 327. When you got to the floor, the lobby area on that level had me worried before I got to the room because the floors were stained and had an interesting smell. But once I got into the room it was clean and tidy. The bathrooms seemed pretty recently rennovated and the rooms were okay. Furniture had a few nicks, bedding had a few minor stains, and there was a dent/hole in the wall. But there was daily maid service (they just replaced towels and make the bed) and you get a discount at the restaurant (which was pretty tasty and average priced). The front desk staff was warm and welcoming. We had an issue with our lock and they came and fixed it asap. The location is okay, we had pretty views of the river, but it's a bit of a commute to get downtown. I'd definately reccomend this hotel for people looking to stay in Vancouver on a budget. It's definately a great value. I would stay here again, maybe not for such a long period of time, but it's a perfect hotel for a quick weekend getaway.

We walked in and were treated great the desk staff treated you like a friend not a paying customer made you feel very welcomed! In all our travels these people at this hotel have been the best!
Its clean and comfy if we needed anything at all we were given it in minutes not hours. its right close to the subway i mean like a 2 minute walk which was great cause of the rain the first day.
On the bad side depends on where you are in the hotel you do get the subway noise and you do here the intercom from the subway,So i would stay again fore sure but would ask to get a room away from the subway side. The parking is across the street which is fine just have a brolly if it's raining.

Maybe I'm just getting to the point of being tired of the cookie cutter corporate mega hotels but we wanted to try something different this time for a trip into New West. Finding a hotel central and at a reasonable cost is difficult in that city just due to the fact of how its laid out . The Met fit the bill on all of it , super reasonable price , excellent room , bright , huge windows 20ft ceilings . The gentleman at the front desk when we checked in was a whole lot more efficient and friendly than a lot of 5 stars hotels we've stayed in , in fact that goes for all of the staff we interacted with during the stay , even the lady that served us in the little pub that's part of the hotel was awesome , I mean seriously now days how many people do you know that actually give a damn about their job to the point of knowing the building and business history ? (the same for the gentleman at the front counter) and being that the hotel is from the 1890's there's a lot of it , if you get a chance to have a glass of your favorite in the pub make sure to ask the happy lady behind the bar about the hotel history. Overall excellent little hotel that we will be back to next time were in the area. Hats off to the hotel and all of the staff !

Room Tip: we can only vouch for the 2nd floor facing the street , but all quiet and comfy , for some reason th...

Great staff, super rooms, clean and comfortable. Price was exceptional. Highly recommended. No pool (who cares) or room service(for the price - get your own grub!). On site liquor outlet exceptionally well stocked.

Room Tip: Prices are so good, get a double queen if only for the added space.
