“Beautiful Place for a Hike!”

Eskers Provincial Park
Attraction details

This is a lovely, accessible park just 20 minutes from Prince George. Well-groomed trails. Various routes, depending on how hard you may want to hike. Excellent for day-hiking. Lots of park signs pointing out various plants, etc. Has nice points-of-interest such as a beaver-pond viewing platform. Near the main entrance to the park are some picnic tables as well. Easy to find & even has good parking.

This is a wonderful hiking experience just west of town on Ness Lake Road. There are trails for various levels of hikers and of varying lengths. The one closest to the parking lot is wheelchair accessible with views over a wildlife nature lake. Some of the trails follow the tops of an esker. Trails access a number of different lakes and hiking is available here year round.

A small provincial park some 25 to 30 kms north of Prince George, it offers well kept trails through an undulating landscape. We walked the 12 km Lake Kathie loop. The eskers are tree covered ridge lines running between glacial remnant lakes. They allow good advantage points for sitting and absorbing the surrounds, especially the colours or the lakes and trees. Mostly aspen, lodgepole and douglas firs with some evidence of the mountain pine beetle. Lots of birdlife with woodpeckers, warblers and ducks as well as some of the best beaver dams you will ever see.

Eskers is a beautiful park to hike. It's a little bit of a drive down Chief Lake rd, not bad though. There are a few trails through the bush, up some minor hills, through an open field, one passes a little lake. It's quite lovely in there, nice fresh woods smell!
