Four Points by Sheraton Prince George
Ranked #10 of 23 Hotels in Prince George
Reviewed 13 July 2010

The four points is a very nice and nearly new hotel in Prince George. The room was well appointed and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful (the general manager even gave me a lift to the train station the next morning). It is a way from downtown so may not be suitable if you don’t have transport. The internet was wired, not wireless. The restaurant is not open for dinner on a Sunday (guess which night I was there!). A bit petty to mention this one but I’m sure they could have managed to put more than one teabag in the room. Not entirely perfect but it is a very nice hotel and the room was very comfortable. The pros far outweigh the cons and I would definitely stay there again.

Like other Four Points Sheratons, this one has some quirky oversights; our family has dubbed them "Fawlty Towers". The rooms have nice fittings and fixtures, but the details (trim, etc.) are unfinished. The most glaring one is that the rooms are fitted with very thin doors that do not extend to the floor, so you can hear every word of the conversations taking place as people walk down the hall. This also seems to be a fire hazard. When I complained about it to the front desk staff they seemed entirely unconcerned.

Not a good place for a light sleeper like me, so I would recommend it with some caveats.

The restaurant is adequate but with incredibly slow and unfriendly staff.

Could be an excellent hotel with a few improvements.

My husband and I stayed one night here on a trip to North Western BC. We had lived in the area in the past and this is DEFINITELY the nicest hotel in Prince George. It is not easy to get to but luckily, when we booked via the phone, the receptionist gave us instructions so found it with no problem. My suggestion if you are going there, call and get explicit instructions first. The bed was super comfortable. We were lucky and did not have any bikers in the room next door so our sleep was good. We did notice that there was some noise from the floor above, kids running or something, but that stopped early. Exercise room was great. We got a good rate and it was worth what we paid and then some!

We did not eat in the restaurant so cannot comment on that.

Until the Four Points opened, hotel options in PG were limited with The Coast Inn of the North being the preferred choice for most business travellers. That's where I used to stay. Now, when in PG on business, it's the Four Points for me.

Being new, the hotel has modern furnishings and features. Spacious rooms with modern decor and a decent fitness centre. The hotel is located on Highway 97; northbound side; about 5-10 minute drive from d/t PG. If you are coming SB on Highway 97, the hotel can be tricky to access. You will have to take the last exit before the Simon Fraser Bridge; loop underneath the bridge and then back on Highway 97 NB. There is plenty of free parking available. The service is okay;not bad and not great.

Except for the dumpy Chinese restaurant across the parking lot from the hotel and the Esso station, you will have to have to drive into PG for meals. There is breakfast service at the hotel (not free). I haven't tried it, so cannot comment.

The one big caveat about this hotel. DO NOT stay in rooms 101, 102, and 103. These rooms are located in the basement of the hotel (seriously!) next to the hotel's laundry room. The view out the window is of a dirt berm and the rooms have no A/C. Found that out the hard way. Went marching back to the front desk for a room change!

We were collected from the railway station by Aurora the General Manager and delivered back the next morning on two occasions, which was great as the hotel is slightly difficult to get to. The staff were great, the rooms really nice and we were upgraded the second time we stayed without asking. Overall a really good stay.

this place is difficult to get to - we essentially had to leave town again to get accross the divided highway. we later discovered a secret underpass, but not till it was too late. access is poor.

a few of the highlights -
No wireless internet, though i could pick up a good signal from the cheap motel next door.
Strong smell of industrial cleaners, which, i guess, is better than what it could have smelled like.
twice i had to send back breakfast, first for linty tomatoes, then for hairy eggs. bleah.
the fruit salad tasted like it had soaked in a vat of acid.
the coffee pot in the room was broken, i cut myself on it and bled all over the place.
the desk was sticky, and there was someone's used gum on the lamp.
i saw a crack deal go down out the window, which faced the back alley.
we thought about looking for a place with a better view, but realized we were in prince george, and there wasn't going to be one.

Imagine after a week of Marriotts, Hiltons and Deltas across BC, there was no hotel to match the standards of the Four Points PG. I used to loathe business trips north to the dearth of decent hotels; chains included. But no more...
An exceptional property highlighted by the staff, who earnestly appeared ready to kill in order to ensure that their guests were satisfied..
One flaw...avoid the food services...the hotel is not set up for a "paid for' food service. Understaffed and ill-prepared...one suggestion...add ten bucks to the bill and open up the breakfast area...one quibble in a very, very pleasant surprise...
