Black Rooster Guesthouse

We were very pleased with the Black Rooster: the room was clean, our beds were comfortable, the staff responsive to need, and the kitchen facilities (and rules for using the fridge) made it convenient and saved us restaurant costs. The lounge has very comfortable leather sofas and contemporary decor and the kitchen has a table and chairs at either end, so that more than one guest group can eat at the same time. There is ample parking and the wi-fi internet is good.

The location is perfect - on a hill overlooking downtown with a nice short walk to park area and an easy drive to the ferry. My only wish is that the door knobs on our room and the upstairs bathrooms be replaced soon.

Room Tip: Depending on the day, you might want an upper-level floor, as guests taking the Inside Passage ferry...

Very clean apartmant, comfortable, walking distance to downtown and shops. Quite area. We had to shorten our stay here due to ferry timetable and availability( catching BC ferry to port hardy) after we checked in and paid, and owners were aggreable to give us a refund which was a pleasant suprise. I would stay here again

Stayed here in August 2013 in room #1 and liked the whole atmosphere. The property showed pride of ownership and a good taste in decorating. If your sick of the whole cockie cutter hotel room experience this is the place to go. A neat "help yourself kitchen", bar-b-que, landry with complimentary soap and free shuttle service from the train station are just some little things that your everyday hotel won't give you which we liked. Bed was very comfy and the teenagers like the bunkbeds because it meant they didn't have to share a bed and reminded them of when they were little kids. A few things on the negative side were that the walls were pretty thin and heard the neighbour snoring all night, kitchen was only big enuff to cook in no area to sit and eat the meal. We never needed the manager which was good because there was never one there, but a phone was provided to call him if needed. Over all a good experience and we would stay here again.

We were picked up from the ferry as promised and on time. The apartment was great. Good kitchen well organized and fully equipped, but with nowhere to properly sit and eat. Other part of the family was in a family room, which was very very basic but good value for money.

Stayed here in 2011 with our family of 6 (4 adults, 2 small children) in the Ground Level Apartment for 1 entire week & we enjoyed it because it was right fit for our family. Then the next year in Feb 2012 we stayed here with a mens basketball team that we were coaching, our boys got knocked out of the ANBT (All native basketball tournament) so we were gonna send our mens team back to our hometown early BUT the Blackroaster tried not refunding us for the days we werent going to be staying there. It took the President of our sports club to come to the guesthouse to demand our refund in which they did refund us after a long 2 days of trying to get it back. The lady owner was rude, disrespectful & didnt seem like a real business woman at all, she was pissed off because she had to give the refund back & said things to us. It was a horrible experience. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone because they require you to pay up front for your entire stay but if you decide to leave/check out early, they will not refund you for the days you will not stay there. Thank twice about this place. Once they turn on you, they treat you with the utmost disrespect. Plus there is nobody ever at the front desk at all, you have to call them to come over to assist you. The same week we stayed here, there were construction crew's renovating downstairs in the middle of the night while we were trying to sleep.

Stayed here in 2009 and thought it was very good, nice large room, great value etc. Tried to stay there again december 2012, Reserved a room through there website, got a confirmation # via email, but when we got there to get the room, the manager was out of town, and the chambermaid said the room we booked was occupied. They tried to accommodate us and stick us in a small cramped room that was only large enough for the bed that was in it. I was very disappointed.

Room Tip: pacific inn was nice.

This hotel was spectacular. Quiet, impeccably clean, modern, private and completely free of any complications. Brand new appliances. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. I was hesitant at first as I don't usually stay at guest houses and I a little concerned it was a hostel. I am glad I did not let my preconceived notions worry me. They have multiple rooms for multiple style over night travellers. I will never stay anywhere else in Prince Rupert again.

Room Tip: There is no fitness centre or swimming pool on the property but there is one just down the road.
