“A Gem for Locals and Visitors Alike”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2013

Salt Spring is an artsy kind of place and has its fair share of writerly, readerly folk. Many of us browse, talk books, buy books and sell our gently used books here at Black Sheep Books. With a good selection and pleasant reading nooks and gracious, knowledgable staff it is a haven.

There are charts for boaters too!

“Good selection, good prices, very well organized”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2013

Considering there are a couple of other used bookstores in Ganges, the selection and prices here are pretty impressive. And as others have said, the organization of their books is excellent. To declare my bias, I usually search in Business, Travel Writing, Biographies, and Sports. Black Sheep had a good selection in all these categories but just to compare the selection wasn't as good as larger shops like The Bookman (Chilliwack), Russell Books (Victoria), or Michael's (Bellingham). It was easy to spend over an hour here.

“The library from Beauty and the Beast.... In real time!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2013 via mobile

When you walk in you feel as if you're transformed into days of yore. The titles may be current but the feel is very "English castle." The selection is unlike any other, the staff is friendly and informative and the value is incredible! There is also a section of unique and upcycled bags, purses and wallets all lovingly hand made on Salt Spring. Set aside a good hour to browse the stacks... If not more!

“A book lover's paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2013

I visited Black Sheep Books on 16th May during a short trip to Salt Spring Island.

Stepping into the bookstore is like entering a different world. There are no dusty stacks of books strewn all over. The books are meticulously catalogued. Different sections of the bookstore have themes specific to the books shelved there.

The bookstore itself is a bright, welcoming place, with a combination of private nooks and corners for browsing, and open spaces at in the main lobby to read. I felt like a king sitting on the sofa armchair in the main lobby, reading a book and watching patrons come and go.

Conveniently located in the centre of Ganges, it is must-stop destination when visiting Salt Spring Island. My regret is that I did not spend enough time going through the shelves in greater detail.

“a special place for treasure's hunters on Salt Spring Island”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 February 2013

Located in the heart of the village, easy to find, on wonderful Salt Spring Island, I have discovered this used book store, it is spacious, well lighted while at the same time offering many private corners to browse and enjoy the extensive collections. Definitely not your ordinary dusty second hand store but to the contrary,up to date, welcoming and well stocked in all categories. I found the children's books section full of marvelous nostalgic gems. Warmly recommended.
