“Excellent value, great service”

We found this hotel on social shopper; two nights standard room for $129. Couldn't beat the price. The staff is vwry friendly and helpful. Our room was pleasant enough. Wish i had bought the harbour room coupon as the view of the parking lot was less than spectacular. The room was dated but fine. Clean, comfortable bed. Location is ideal. Can walk to the Saturday market and other stores. I would definitely stay here again.

I recently stayed at the Hotel for 5 nights, Se 29-Oct 3, and was not dissappointed. The rates were low season so the value was good. The restaurant was outstanding (we ate there for dinner a couple of nights as well as breakfast) and the accomodations , although there was no table in the room (and there were three of us) were very comfortable. The staff were friendly and the location was very central. We had a Harbour View room and it was lovely.

We stayed at this hotel in the first week of October. The rates were still "high season" although on Thursday night it felt like we were the only people in the hotel. The retail employees in town laughed when we asked if it was still "high season". So, the rates were $189 per room per night, although after requesting a mid-week discount of $20, the Thursday night rate was reduced. I agree with everything mentioned by 123Traveller - small rooms, ancient TVs, worn out furniture. Usually this rate would result in a much nicer room. The staff was good at the front desk and in the restaurant where we had a nice local meal. I would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Harbour view rooms do have a nice view.

I can not recommend this hotel to anyone. Firstly, the hotel is a dive, much more like a motel than a hotel. Dirty stained carpet, chips in the bathtub and sink- nothing renovated since it was built in the '70's. The walls are so paper thin I could hear the guy on the other side receiving text messages. The air in the rooms has that musty been here forever smell. I did get switched to another room in the 'newer' building ( built in 1996!) - the carpet there is also stained and dirty however the rooms are 'somewhat' better- certainly not worth the money they charge. Because this room was unavailable for my whole trip I spent the last night in one of the 'harbour view' rooms and paid $189.00/night for a room with THREADBARE furniture- I could see the stuffing coming through on the arms. One positive side, the staff are themselves very nice. Did not eat in the restaurant as the prices were very high and I doubted that it would merit it. I had a chance to look before I left the Island at the Saltspring Inn- ate breakfast there ( fantastic!) and saw the rooms- all modern and recently done over, next time I would stay there. If you have access to a car ( I did not) I heard the B&B at the vineyards is delightful.

We had an amazing time in Saltspring and part of it was thanks to the great hotel. We had the deluxe room overlooking the Ganges. The balcony had a fireplace which was amazing as it is getting cold here at night and the fireplace kept us nice and warm as we sipped amazing saltspring wine and watched the starts.

Food was also the best on the island- how many hotels have an organic farm in their backyard. Staff was so friendly... as is everyone on the island.

When I go back to saltspring will definitely stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: 401 is the best room!

The room with its balcony overlooking the Ganges harbour was lovely. Organic amenities were definitely appreciated but the real treat was breakfast with organic eggs florentine from Harbour House's farm. We'll be back for sure.

Room Tip: Ask for a harbour view room.

Date of visit: Saturday, Sept 7 and Sunday, Sept 8, 2013
Rates: $189.00 for Saturday and $169 for Sunday
Room: Two queen size beds, view of Ganges Harbour, balcony, second floor
Comments:
We were told upon booking that there was no elevator but that we could get help with our bags if needed. When checking in we were not offered any help, but managed on our own. Be aware that there are lots of stairs.
The view from our room was wonderful, the balcony was large, but no privacy between other rooms sharing the same space. There was only an approximately two foot high divider between spaces. There were two old, stained, plastic chairs and an equally stained small table on the balcony. The balcony needed cleaning and the whole space was very unwelcoming.
The room was clean and the beds were comfortable with nice bedding. The dresser was very old and scratched. There was only one suitcase rack, so nowhere to put a second bag. There was no air conditioning but there was an old floor fan. The stand needed repair as it wasn't very stable. The TV was an old fashioned square style with not very many channels.
The bathroom had almost no counter space for a cosmetic bag. The towels were small, rough, thin and very old. There was only one towel rack, so nowhere to hang a second towel except a hook on the door. The worst thing about the bathroom was the shower. The water temperature was fine when starting, but quickly turned scalding hot without warning and it was impossible to readjust it to a safe and comfortable temperature.
Restaurant: The prices were very high for a dinner entree, but we didn't have dinner there so can't comment on the food. Breakfast and lunch were OK but prices were a little high compared with the rest of the island.
Overall rating: I would not stay here again. We felt the room rate was very high for what was offered. There are dozens of lovely B&Bs on the island, so check around.
