“A really nice getaway destination”

We stayed here based on a friend's recommendation. Margaruit and Kaas were great hosts who warmly welcomed us, provided a comfortable and quiet room, and served great breakfasts. Also had bike storage.

What we liked:
- Friendly, courteous, helpful hosts - not too talkative & intrusive. As we didn't have a car, Margriet gave us directions over the phone & via email regarding how to get to the B&B from Vancouver, & about transport/sightseeing options on the island. She picked us up from downtown Ganges & drove us to Vesuvius where we'd made dinner reservations. Kees drove us to downtown Ganges so we could catch a bus on time to the ferry bound for Swartz Bay.
- Gazing at the night sky & stars while lounging in the hot tub on the patio just outside the 2 bedrooms.
- The binder in the bedroom containing menus from restaurants.
- The privacy: the private lane for guests to enter their rooms from Sharp Rd, the private entry to each bedroom, & the private bathrooms.
- Margriet’s recommendations as to where to have meals were honest & reliable! She also suggested we make reservations at the more popular restaurants, which I recommend too.
- The breakfasts were big, filling, & Margriet remembered me telling her (months before our stay) about my fondness for waffles & pancakes. She made (heart-shaped) waffles on the 1st morning, & pancakes (bursting with blackberries picked from their garden) on the 2nd morning. The blueberry syrup paired with those so well! We preferred the pancakes as the waffles were a tad dry. I also enjoyed the zucchini chocolate bread, yoghurt with blackberries, homemade jam selections, sunny side up or poached eggs (fresh eggs from the hosts’ hens).
- Strong coffee, tea, milk & juice available.
- Both rooms have one of the most affordable prices among the Salt Spring Island Bed & Breakfasts.
- Both rooms have ample seating space for relaxing & reading.
- Margriet let me take a book home (one which I got addicted to during the stay)!
- The B&B is a 5min drive or a 20-30min walk from downtown Ganges. There's a supermarket, a winery, & a few hiking trails within a 15min walk from the B&B, very convenient!
- The room was tidy yet filled with books, organized according to genre.
- Exploring the large grounds amidst lavender & hens, catching glimpse of the occasional deer leaping in the distance.
- Conducive, tranquil, peaceful setting.
- The clean bedroom & en-suite bathroom.
- The toiletries – apart from soap & shampoo, there were conditioner, sunscreen & body lotion.

Note:
You may be able to hear coughing or some sounds from the next room due to soundproofing reasons.
Light sleepers may be awakened by the light coming through the sunroof after dawn.

Room Tip: Fiction Room has a king-sized bed & a washroom with a bathtub right outside the bedroom, Poetry...

Margrite and Kees have created a beautiful oasis on Salt Spring Island. Quiet, yet welcoming they provide not only a gorgeous room, a magnificent table, a lovely setting, but a friendship that lasts a life-time. My wife and I first encountered Between the Covers three years ago on last visit to Salt Spring and when we decided to return to Salt Spring this August, we knew that Between the Covers was the one place we would want to stay. Again, the welcoming hosts, their delightful smiles and friendly demeanors applied. Margrite, a children's author, and her husband Kees welcome you like a lost friend. Friendly, and always willing to be helpful they suggested many tours, which restaurants offered great variety and what was happening on the island.
We have enjoyed the luxury of staying in many B&B's and I have to say that Margrite and Kees are the finest innkeepers that we have encountered. Thank you for permitting us to be part of your life for a few short days.

My daughter and I had a wonderful, relaxing time at this delightful B&B. The homemade breakfasts were amazing, with a new spread each morning. Highlights included Stuffed French Toast, Lavender Scones, smoked salmon Eggs Benedict, made with fresh eggs from their own chickens. A hot tub awaited us in the evening to stargaze midst the pines and scents from the lavender garden. Our room was cozy and comfortable with many much loved books. Salt Spring has so much to offer and our hosts were enthused to share new and familiar spots and events with us each morning. This indeed is a treasure retreat and are looking forward to our next visit!

Room Tip: There are two rooms to choose from, both lovely. One has a queen bed and one has a King size bed.

Stayed for an entire week. Margriet prepared a different breakfast of at least 3 courses each day, served on her beautiful deck overlooking the lavender. Quiet, peaceful, close to town. Central to the island. Very knowledgeable about attractions and events, what's worth the trip and what may not be. Highly recommend!

When I stay in a B&B I am not looking for glitzy hotel accommodation. Instead I like to meet the owners and get a bit of local knowledge. Between the Covers is just what a B&B should be - although it is not far from Ganges, you look out on a lovely rural landscape. It's all very informal - the rooms are clean and comfortable and the breakfasts are exceptional!

I highly recommend this B&B

My daughter and I stayed at Between the Covers Booklovers B & B in the summer. The bed and breakfast is in a quiet and beautiful location on a large property. The rooms are spacious, very clean and private with lots of literature to read in the comfy bed or on the quiet deck overlooking beautiful gardens and fields. The breakfast served on the deck/patio was delicious. It was a great escape for us but also close enough to enjoy the many arts and crafts venues on the island. Try to visit Salt Spring Island on a Saturday and go to the market in the town of Ganges.
