“Serene and Comfortable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 January 2010

This is a really pretty spot on Saltspring. The bay is very quiet and tranquil. Our room had a very picturesque ocean view. We had some utterly stunning sunrises. The suite was very comfortable- super comfy couch and bed. It has a mini kitchen and a private deck. Outdoor hot-tub is shared but private to the suite we had after 10 which was nice. The breakfasts were a nice surprise. They advertise continental but we got a hot entree every morning. Apparently they usually do this. The ginger pumpkin pancakes were fantastic and the hosts were really nice.

Our room was clean and had lots of little free extras movies, wireless, books etc...bikes and a kayak too. You can walk on the beach but it's rocky. Kayaking was amazing.

This was a very romantic spot

very impersonal - we could have been from Mars
bathroom smelled of cat urine!!!
no hammock
pictures deceiving - docks are next door
not really a walking beach outside
never did meet Colleen
have done bed and breakfasts for thirty-five years and this was one of our few disappointments
gardens and plants needed attention - lots of dead growth not removed
wonder if things have gone downhill since opening ?

The Sunrise Suite here proved to be a delightful answer to all our needs: A deluxe waterside suite acommodating our golden retriever, providing us a luxury experience from the plush bed to the generous hot tub, with easy access to Ganges (the epicenter of the island), yet very private & peaceful setting with sweeping water views.

In an effort to avoid being cliché by just saying 'this place was great' (which it was) I'll try to detail some of the great things about this place.
This is the second time my wife and I have stayed here (which should tell you something.) The first time we stayed here was in 2005 for the first 4 days of our honeymoon. We stayed in the Sunrise Suite and if you're looking for a comfortable, spacious place to relax this is it. A large king size bed, jacuzzi tub, separate living room area. Kitchenette within the living room area. Fridge, microwave, cupboards and dishes avail for use. Electric fireplace that's great in the winter. A ton of movies avail for use as well within the room. Oh and of course a hot tub.
The room was clean and prepped every day. The hot tub was kept clean on a daily basis as well.
My wife and I have been here in both the summer and winter-time and both have their perks. In the summer you can use the kayak and awesome hammock they have avail. We used the kayak in 2005 to visit Chocolate Island just a paddle away from the B&B. There's some great swimming to be done as well.
The breakfast provided is definitely a highlight. Pumpkin pancakes, fresh fruit, berry biscuits, stuff french toast...and the list goes on. Thanks Colleen for everything!

As for Salt Spring Island, the summer is definitely when everything is abuzz. During the winter, some of the studios (pottery houses, artisan shops) are open but some are by appointment only. All studios are open in the summer. There are great little bakeries and restaurants to ensure to take in while you're there. The Tree House Cafe is a definite must. As well the Salt Spring Island Goat Cheese Studio isn't to be missed.

Mt. Maxwell is great in the summer but more challenging in the winter. We couldn't get all the way up to the top in the car this time because of all the snow they've had!!! We ended up hiking up the final 5km to the top and it was definitely worth it!

The Arbutus Point Oceanfront bed and breakfast was a great place to stay. My husband and I stayed at the Arbutus for five nights on our honeymoon. The B&B is nestled in the forest on the coast of a small island bay. We stayed in the Sunrise suite which overlooked a bay. We had one bedroom, kitchenette, and living room with a fireplace. The room was clean and had recent updates. The bed and couch were both cozy and soft. They also provide a wide selection of DVDs in each room. The outdoor hottub was great for relaxing. The two person kayak and barbeque were free for our use during our stay. The owners made us feel completely at home and provided lots of good recommendations for places to see on the Island. Breakfast was tasty and service was friendly. We didn't need to eat much for lunch after the gourmet breakfasts they provided. We recommend this hotel and Salt Spring Island to other travelers looking for quiet and relaxation.

  • Liked — Comfortable, welcoming, lots of extras
  • Disliked — Hottub is older and jets could use some servicing
  • Tips/Secrets — If you want to get around the island easily a car or bike is a good idea. (B&B is 8 km from Ganges)
