“Exceptional Organic Food at an Incredible Price”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

The Harbour House Restaurant has incredible food and the price for two adults and one child including wine was only $120. We were shocked when we received the bill.

“Fresh and organic”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

Ate 2 meals here, stayed overnight and toured the organic garden out back. They make their own sauces and condiments here. The food is as fresh as you can get it since it travels by basket from the garden out back! ALWAYS good food here

“Wholesome garden vegetables and salads”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

We often eat here. The patio is beautiful and the food (especially vegetables and salads) from their own garden is excellent.. Favourites include the seafood pasta, lamb burger and shitake burger. Personally, I feel they over batter the fish but the fish itself is fresh.

“Great food, wonderful service, poor kitchen management.”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

We decided to try the Harbour House Restaurant because of the farm-to-table approach that they follow. We sat outdoors which was pleasant, although the tables were a bit crowded together, making patrons have to squeeze (and apologize) to get to the seats. A nice touch was the blankets that were offered as the evening cooled. The servers were all very pleasant and attentive, although their job was made difficult by the torturous waits for orders from the kitchen. We were there for over an hour before we got our appetizers and there were people who were there before us who hadn't been served yet. From what I understand, this was just an off night in the kitchen. Having said that, the food itself was excellent. My wife started with the French Onion Soup which had a very rich and flavorful broth and lots of onions. I started with the Organic Farm Greens which were fresh, crisp, and varied, with a house dressing that accented (rather than overpowered) the salad. We both ended up having the Beef Tenderloin and it was tender and perfectly cooked. More important, the presentation was quite attractive (which is rare when you order a steak). The steaks sat on a bed of the chef's red bliss potatoes, and was surrounded by a nice mix of farm vegetables. The onion rings were very crisp, yet light and the demi-glace didn't overpower the steaks. I probably would have melted the blue cheese a bit more on the steaks, but it was a nice cheese. The wine list had a nice variety and was reasonably priced. We were a bit disappointed with the berry crisp, as it wasn't really crisp (more like they had thrown some oatmeal on the top). Net-net, it was a nice evening. Assuming the kitchen management issue was truly a fluke, we would definitely try it again.

“Summer Dining”
Reviewed 9 August 2014 via mobile

After decades of visiting Saltspring each summer, we decided to try the Harbour House restaurant. The day before we made a reservation, we visited the hotel and looked over the dinner menu and were excited about the options provided by the establishment's organic garden and locally sourced ingredients.

The place was bustling at 7 p.m. We were greeted immediately, seated and given menus and water. Orders were taken and questions answered about celiac options, of which there were many.

Appetizers arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Guys shared a pound of chicken wings and I chose the unique Caesar salad with Parmesan puffs, which everyone agreed was delicious.

There was quite a long wait between appies and the entrees. My son and I had ordered the halibut, my bf the gluten free seafood pasta. The halibut meals were tepid, which I mentioned to our server. She pointed out that it is sometimes difficult to have meals ready at the same time, but quickly added there was no excuse for this. My son and I both agreed that our meals were tasty but not outstanding in any way. My bf's meal was a generous portion, hot and flavorful, so he was happy.

To our server's and the management's credit, she offered to promo dessert for us and we each enjoyed a scoop of gelato. Service was very professional.

I would certainly give the Harbour House restaurant another chance. The atmosphere is lovely and our server was first-class.
