“Great experience- beautiful hotel, perfect location.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 December 2009

I recently stayed at Cox Bay resort for three nights with family, and we had a fabulous time. First of all, the location is spectacular. Just 7 km from the town of Tofino, and right on the beach.

Our room was excellent. There were three of us staying in a one bedroom unit. Two people in the bedroom, one on the pullout couch. Everything in the unit seemed to be high quality. I had the pullout couch and it was very comfortable. Lots of extra blankets and pillows.

We enjoyed having a fully equipped kitchen. We bought some crabs from the place across from the Esso station and cooked them in the room. The only thing missing in the kitchen was a proper shell cracker and crab forks, but we made do with the bottle opener :)

Our room had pretty much everything else we needed/wanted: fireplace, tv, wireless internet. It felt like a brand new condo.

Service was good. Most of the staff were quite friendly, smiled at us and said hello. Some other reviewers complained about sheets and towels not being changed often enough, but we didn't run into that problem.

Wifi was $10 for the whole stay. Parking was free and ample, although the hotel was pretty quiet (we were there off season) We did not use the hot tub because it was too cold outside (for us, anyway.) There was a fitness center and lounge but we did not check them out.

This is a beautiful hotel. I strongly recommend staying here, especially if you find a deal on the room.

The first thing u need to know about this place is that u are pretty much on your own. The rooms have a full kitchen, dishwasher and washer/dryer. So go shopping in town or bring your own food to save some $. Tofino has good, but very expensive eateries. Cox bay does not provide breakfast or have a restaurant.

The rooms are all basically right on the beach but none have a full "ocean-view." If you want a room where u can sit back and watch the waves unfortunately this place is not for you. One can, however, walk a few steps from your big deck and get the full view of the beautiful ocean and sunset. The rooms are beautiful with local art and the most comfy bed I've ever slept on. There is also a fireplace and a 32 inch HD Flat-Screen TV with DVD player.

I found the staff pleasant, helpful and un-intrusive.

Will go back soon.

This is a new, modern condo type accomodation. The 1 bedroom unit was very nice for a couple. The bedroom is a bit small, but not a problem since this unit also has a kitchen and living area. They could have provided a few more kitchen utensils but we managed. Nice hot tub, only steps to the beach. Had to pay for the internet but it was only $10 for the entire stay.

We spent 3 nights at CBR in early September and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I booked a 2BR thinking that this would ensure a 2nd floor unit and hopefully a view of the beach, but we ended up in one of of the few first-floor 2BR units, and second unit from the reception area (and almost furthest unit from the beach) ... so no view, but still a wonderful condo. (Paid a very reasonable price through hotels.ca, so can't complain about the location we ended up in based on the price we paid...and it was a quieter location than the other end of the complex, where the hot tub is.)

The condos are very nicely decorated, spacious, comfortable, bright (nice windows) and well equipped. Bathrooms need much better lighting at the mirrors. Great kitchens for cooking and nice patio's/balconies to eat out on (ours had a dining table & 4 chairs...but it looked like the 1BR's only had a small table with 2 chairs.) Really liked the landscaping, which provided some privacy for our patio (with the tall grasses.) Our unit had a king bed in the master/queen in the second.

BBQ's, fitness room, hot tub, nice common room for group get-togethers (with kitchen, fireplace, sitting area), and a great lookout room are all at the 'ocean end' of the complex.

We paid $10. for internet for the entire stay. Housekeeping was fine ... not a full cleaning each day, which is understandable in accommodations of this type, but towels refreshed, beds made (or remade), sinks/counters/tubs cleaned, etc. Cleaning staff left a check-list each day of what they had done. My only suggestion to them would be to wash the hardwood floors between guest stays. Upon arrival, I wiped up a very small spill of something that had dried on the kitchen floor, and picked up more dirt than just the spill ... brown hardwood floors are great for hiding dirt, but that's not an excuse not to wash them. Otherwise, the unit was very clean. Enjoyed the coffee and tea that they provided, and nice amenities in the bathrooms.

The location of CBR is great for exploring the area and for hiking on the Pacific Rim park trails (don't miss the superb rain forest trails in the park!). It's about 10 minutes from the town of Tofino and a half hour to Ucluelet. Highly recommend the lighthouse loop of the Wild Pacific Trail in Ucluelet. The beach at CBR is wonderful for walking on (and by the looks of the fun time that the surfers were having, a great surfing beach.) Beautiful sunsets!

A nice stay & would recommend it to others.

We stayed at Cox Bay Beach resort for 3 nights. It was very late when we got there and we had trouble finding the entrance as the sign was on the side of the road but not at an entrance. To access the resort you had to use the Long Beach resort entrance and then head off towards the right which was quite difficult to work out in the dark! We drove up to a building which we assumed was reception although this wasn’t signposted either.

The suite itself was very nice, comfy large bed, good bathroom and kitchen facilities and a nice lounge area. The lighting seemed to be eco friendly which gave a cosy atmosphere but was no use when trying to use a mirror! Although there was a nice tv in the lounge, there was not one in the bedroom. Wireless is available for a charge of $10 per stay but we had to ask about this, it wasn’t written down anywhere.

There were limited facilities on site (hot tub, fitness room both of which seemed poor) but you would have to go to Tofino for anything else which is about 8km away. The resort has it’s own beach access so was good for surfers/dog walkers.

This was a nice looking resort but with not much to do, it was more geared up for surfers or quiet walks on the beach which was quite expensive at $260 per night. We were lucky and got it at a reduced price of approx $180 per night and I don’t think it was worth more than that.

Tofino itself is a tiny seaside town, very quaint, many art galleries! We visited Schooners restaurant for dinner which was really nice, great food and setting. There were also some cafes and other restaurants around plus a couple of supermarket/grocery stores. It took about 3 hours to drive from Nanaimo to Tofino.

This was a lovely apartment on a stunning beach. You can't really get a better location and I was impressed with the design and quality of the apartment. I would agree with some other reviewers on this site about the house keeping.... it was a bit of a joke, not sure there was much cleaning actually involved but I am sure this will be rectified, it would be a shame to tarnish such a great place with something so cheap to rectify.

Just returned with from 7 nights at the Cox Bay Resort. We were very happy with everything - the biggest issue seems to be housekeeping. Feels like people expect hotel style housekeeping for the $. This is not what you get. The staff is very nice and will come by each day to see if you need more towels, etc, but don't expect a clean sweep of the room. My wife and I went there knowing that you are renting a condo and as long as we had a washer/dryer - we would make do. The units themselves are fantastic and nicely decorated. The location is spectacular - steps from the beach. They have beautiful multi-use rooms to lounge, play games, read books and exercise (basic treadmill, elliptical and weights).

The property is about a year old, and it feels like they are still working out some kinks, but CBR was a place we would return to again.
