“Beyond Wonderful!”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

I stayed here with my sister in July 2011 (date discrepancy from review site as I couldn't go this far back when writing the review - NOTE TO TRIP ADVISOR: don't limit date choices). I usually stay at hotels instead of B&B's - and had just had a rather unpleasant B&B experience in Kelowna, so was not looking forward to this one. This is without a doubt a perfect place. It's an "A" frame style building, with two smaller units on the top floor that share a balcony and a larger accommodation on the main level for larger groups. Our balcony looked out over a garden filled with hummingbirds with a view to the ocean. We could hear a bald eagle in the trees beside the chalet - took a while to find him, but what a sight when we did. After my journey there from Victoria, to sit on the balcony with a lovely glass of wine and watch the sun set over the water - I felt like I was in heaven.
Gabrielle, the proprietor, was lovely. Pleasant and friendly, but not intrusive. She made sure we had what we needed, asked what we wanted for breakfast and what time we'd like it served. It was brought to our room, piping hot and we were able to eat it on the balcony, again enjoying the view. She provided us with extra coffee and invited us to take a cup of it down to Tonquin Beach which is a 3-4 minute walk from the B&B. It's a lovely quiet beach and each morning I walked there and saw maybe 5 people. Most people visiting Tofino go to the bigger beaches as this is a lesser known one - what a treasure it is. Live starfish, sand dollars, eagles flying overhead, and the sound of the surf coming in. Take a beach chair down and just relax if you can.
The Blue Bear is just on the outskirts of Tofino - a 5 minute drive or a 15 minute walk.
The room itself is lovely - a large queen (king?) bed that's so comfy - and a pull out couch that is just as much so. There's a microwave and mini fridge for guest's convenience and a lovely fireplace. The bathroom is to die for - a wonderful large soaking tub, shower stall and double sink with lots of room for 2 guests - even sisters! Bathrobes are also provided.
Thanks Gabrielle for the wonderful experience. I will be back!

We stayed here in August 2011 on our honeymoon. It was a fantastic place, lovely big room with a big big bathroom complete with a bath with room for 2. The sunset on the beach just down the steps was special, we felt like we were on a private island! I seem to recall that Gabrielle brought us pancakes for breakfast with blueberry jam and maple syrup, delicious. Plenty of parking room. Nice little mini kitchen. Super bed. Wish I could wind the clock back 2.5 years and we were still there!

I spent four nights here. The bedroom and bathroom had lovely sea/forest views and the bed I didn't want to get out of! It was a v.tranquil spot to rest and there is also loads to do if you want to. You couldn't ask for a better host Gabrielle is friendly, genuine, helpful and generous and makes the most amazing breakfasts which include organic fruit and homemade muffins!
It is a short walk to town and there is a lovely coastal forest walk just at the end of the drive. Gabrielle very kindly picked me up from the bus and dropped me to the airport.
Thank you for a wonderful stay Gabrielle!

My husband and I stayed at the Blue Bear for 2 nights in June 2013. Tofino is a lovely place to stay and the Blue Bear was perfect. It’s a great location overlooking Tonquin beach and is a short walk to the beach itself. The B&B is not on the cliff edge but you have a view of the sea through the trees.

The room was very clean with a fridge and kettle so you could make your own drinks. It also had the biggest bath I’ve ever seen which was welcome after our whale watching tour!

Gabrielle served a lovely breakfast in the room which was great as we could eat breakfast whilst admiring the view. We had fresh fruit and pancakes, although I think Gabrielle is flexible in terms of what you want.

It’s about a 10 minute walk into Tofino which has some great restaurants (I’d recommend the Spotted Bear & SoBo).

I’d highly recommend the Blue Bear, great value for money, lovely accommodation in a lovely town.

Room Tip: There are 2 rooms next to each other on the first floor with sea views.

We spent a five days at this spectacular B&B. Gabrielle, the owner, really went out of her way to make our stay enjoyable. She provided us with copious amounts of information about the area, maps, books and excellent advice on places to tour. She offered gluten-free options for breakfast that were all excellent.

The view from the bath tub is spectacular, and the small touches such as several candles placed around the tub makes for a very romantic setting. The artwork on the walls is mainly from local artists, and adds to the homey feel of the room.

The bed is super comfy, and the view of the water from our room is spectacular. Unfortunately we missed seeing some orca whales swim by the area by a few minutes. Apparently they swim by a few times a year. We did however see a lot of eagles and many other birds in the area.

We found it easy to walk into town (approx. 10 minute brisk walk), and to Tonquin beach was a few minutes’ walk away as well.

Room Tip: ask for a room that faces the water

What a treat! Blue Bear has been for us a trully wonderful B & B experience. We have spent a couple of days in Tofino and tasted a genuine hospitality at Blue Bear.

The location is spectacular, close to the a cliff edge overlooking the ocean and partially surrounded by forest. Serene silence is touched only by birds' chirping or the kee-yep sound from the Bold Eagle resident. You can see him every morning from the comfort of your bed. Wow!
The centre of Tofino is just 10 minutes walk. Tonquin beach with a lovely boardwalk trail is just 5 minute away.

Our room was cozy, charming and ellegant. The bed was so comfortable, we have rested so well.

Gabrielle, the owner of Blue Bear, offered us valuable information about the area, maps and good advise about places to visit. Her breakfasts are so delicious, already we are dreaming to visit Blue Bear soon.

Marvellous b & b in Tofino where we spent a couple of days; the room is vey spacious, so it's the bathroom. Beatiful view from the windows towards the garden and the ocean. While you look at the window you can see lots of little birds. The place is very quiet and romantic. Gabrielle is a very special person who has made our holiday unforgettable. Delicious pancakes served warm with a very good coffee. Very precious Gabrielle's suggestions about excursions and dinner.

Room Tip: Both rooms are ocean front with a balcony
