Rules, rules and rules...

No time for their custumers and they kept us waiting for more then 2 hours (during "posted hours of business") before we got our depostit money back.

Don't plan to leave early in the morning if you want your deposit back, they don't open untill ten.

Better yet: don't go there at all!!!

We booked one of this resorts waterfront cottages. Everything else on the beach was fully booked way in advance, so we had no choice. The price for a two bedroom cottage was $369.00 Canadian per night plus tax. The staff were absolutely rude at every turn. The "resort" has been let go. The hot tub was not working, the pool was dirty, the grounds unkempt and no extra supplies in the cottage, no extra towels available, no dish soap, no coffee filters. We stay in a lot of cottages and these are always supplied, never mind at almost $400 per night!

We arrived at 9 pm (confirmation was held with credit card). The office was closed and all the signs said, DO NOT DISTURB, CLOSED, DO NOT GO TO HOUSE. Well, it was dark and there was no other accomodation available at this time of year (Long Beach is very remote), and we were exhausted from a full days travel. We disobeyed the signs and knocked on the house door. The host finally opened the door and suggested we "were late". He grudgingly gave us a key and said "find your cabin down at the beach through the trail". No lights, we stumbled around through the dark. No escort, nothing. He said he was tired of working 12 hour days and it was obvious he was burnt out.

However, at these prices, service should be at a pretty high scale. So, we checked out the other cabins etc along the same beach to discover that McKenzie Resort was very overpriced (by about $200 per night) and the resorts at the same price were astoundingly beautiful, right down to chocolates on the pillow.

Their response to this difference " too bad, there are many bookings behind you".

So, at this beautiful vacation spot, this resort has fallen into the "gouging due to demand" group. They have no concept of what a "resort" should be.

The cabin was very nice though, not updated in some time, but very comfortable and right on the beach which is stunning and Tofino is wonderful...too bad about the resort.

My friends and I stayed at the Mackenzie Beach Resort for our grade 12 graduation trip. Tofino is a beautiful town and the resort was about 2 kms away. Bare and basic accomodations for the price we paid; no phones in the cabins however, and there was no reception on everyone's cell phones... so be forewarned. When we made the reservations, we were given 2 different quotes by 2 different people. That was the first and not the last time we were wary of the customer service there. Two weeks after our trip, we received a call from the resort. They claimed that 7 various towels were missing and wanted to charge our credit card. My friends and I have travelled extensively and we always bring our own towels for hygenic purposes. I asked them why it took 2 weeks for them to find towels missing, and they told me that they had been so busy and finally found the time to call. We are reasonable people, educated and middle class. Their claims would have been much more valid if they had informed us of this matter days after we had checked out. Instead, they waited 2 weeks. I questioned how many people had stayed in those cabins after we had left. They said that there were many, but a note was made after our party had checked out. If a lot of people had stayed there after we left, how could they be so sure that our party took it? I asked if all the towels were numbered with the cabin number so they knew exactly how many were missing and from where. Their answer wasn't too clear, and they stated that that wasn't the point. It all sounded too suspicious to me, that they suddenly found towels missing and decided to point the finger at a group of 18 year old Chinese kids. They had no proof. If they had called earlier, that would have been a form of proof. If they did not take this matter seriously in the first place, then why should we believe them? Nevertheless, they threatened to charge our credit card. Without solid proof, and with a disappointing reviews and already a bad reputation on tripadvisor, I should have thought twice about booking this place.
