“Most relaxing place we have found”

My partner and I just spent six days at the Chesterman Beach Bed and Breakfast in Tofino, B. C. We can not rate this place highly enough. Besides being in an ideal setting only steps from the beach, it is owned by a wonderful couple, Lynda and Todd. This is our third stay with them in the Ocean Breeze Suite, and they always make us feel like it is our home away from home. We are already looking forward to our next visit to Tofino and will definitely stay at Chesterman Beach Bed and Breakfast.

The number of B&Bs has steadily increased over the years becoming an integral part of tourism in BC. Most operators have made a substantial investment and a commitment to a lifestyle that we can only begin to imagine. Doing so, they have every right to implement rules and regulations to protect that investment and to ensure that all guests have a memorable stay at their establishment. The reviews posted here from the Calgary family were obviously written solely to discredit Todd and Lynda. I commend Todd for putting a stop to a potential free for all. Had this occurred while we were staying there, we would have more than likely left, never to return. As far as Todd and Lynda having a dog (Murphy), hey, it's their home. Allowing pets in the B&B could have serious consequences leading to higher cleaning expenses and potential damage to the suites. During our stay we witnessed several incidences on the beach caused by large dogs that were totally out of control. We spent four wonderful nights in the Garden Cottage as part of our week long 30th Anniversary celebrations. I could go on forever complementing our hosts and our stay but it's all been said many, many times here already. Beautiful place, beautiful beach, great breakfasts, friendly Bluejays, incredible hosts! Thanks Todd and Lynda

My husband and I just returned from our yearly vacation on Vancouver Island. The highlight of the trip is always our week stay in the Ocean Breeze Suite at Chesterman Beach B&B. The suite sits under the canopy of the rainforest with views of the surfers riding the waves on Chesterman Beach. We love having the chance to walk twice a day on the flat, broad beach. Todd and Lynda have set up chairs down on the beach to sit and watch the sunset of have a glass of wine. They cannot do enough to make sure their guests have every opportunity to enjoy the beach, the town, and all its activities. They even share their kayak so guests can experience the surf. While we were there this year, there was a humpback whale that swam into the bay to feed. Todd even brought us binoculars so we could get a better view of the whale from our suite each day.
As beautiful as the setting is on Chesterman Beach, inside the suite is just as special- thick queen sized beds with feather duvets, natural stone walk-in shower, modern kitchen with granite countertop, cozy living room with gas fireplace. Our favorite feature is the little glass solarium on the back of the suite where we sit and read, have breakfast, or nap , enjoying the view of the beach, rain or shine. Just thinking about the good times walking the beach or relaxing in the solarium keeps us happy until we can return again next summer.

This was our first trip to Vancouver Island and we loved it so much we didn't want to leave. The Chesterman Beach B&B was wonderful, and the Lookout Suite we stayed in was perfect. The view of the ocean from our room's window couldn't have been better. Todd and Elayne were the perfect hosts, and the breakfasts Elayne prepared weer scrumptious. Todd was very helpful with siteseeing trips and restaurant recommendations. The suite was clean and well appointed. We highly recommend staying at the Chesterman Beach B&B if you are visiting the Tofino, BC area. The eagles and ospreys love the area as well.

Room Tip: Reccomend you book well in advance of your planned trip.

We arrived and were shown the Garden Cottage by our host Todd. The place was spectacular, more than we could have hoped for. The little touches were there that personalised the place and we could not avoid unwinding from the second we arrived. This was undoubtedly the best B&B experience ever for both of us and the close proximity of one of the most amazing beaches was the icing on the cake. We will certainly return soon and plan to visit to stormwatch later this year.

Room Tip: Extremely comfortable bed; coffee grinder and fresh coffee, beautiful bath soaps and excellent towel...

My husband and I absolutely loved this bed and breakfast by the sea. We stayed in the Lookout Suite, which is a single large room plus bathroom. You also have your own private deck overlooking the beach and ocean. Possibly the place I have enjoyed the most of all the accommodations I've ever stayed in (and I've travelled around the world, staying in all kinds of places...including 5-star hotels). It was the combination of the natural beauty of the environment combined with the way the suite was so comfortable and cosy that really got to me. Everything in the suite was rustic yet --at the same time--- high quality and well-thought out. Some of the reasons we love this place had nothing to do with the suite... for example, the beach. We walked the beach each day. Chesterman Beach is a perfect walking beach. Every time you walk it, it's different. You find different sea creatures and plants on the sand, different parts of the beach are under water and exposed, different sky and clouds, different birds and wildlife. The water looks different each day. You can walk it several times a day and never be tired of it! Sometimes we found a sheltered spot and lay on the sand. Once we saw a falcon chase an eagle. I saw hummingbirds and a Steller Bluejay from the balcony of our suite. These kinds of experiences you can't guarantee will be repeated, but Chesterman Beach feels like a place where the miracles of nature happen every day.

What We Loved about the Lookout Suite:

-absolutely amazing location on the beautiful and wild and unpredictable Chesterman Beach
-a great view of the sand and ocean from your bed, or the sofa, or the inside kitchen table, or the deck (because of the way the suite is designed, you can see and hear the ocean from your suite or your deck no matter what the weather, and still be cosy and warm)
-lovely soft bed
-heated towel racks in the bathroom
-exellent coffee maker, and great coffee beans provided (and real cream in the fridge!), and lovely selection of teas, hot chocolate
-little kitchenette with bowls, plates, cutlery, cups, wine glasses, coffee mugs (I wish there'd been a small sink in the kitchenette area)
-good BOSC sound system compatible with iPod, or can use CD's
-no television (yes, that's a good thing! amazingly we didn't miss the tv at all)
-lovely deck with comfy chairs and table
-private access to the suite... if you want to be alone, you never need to see the owners or the other guests
-raingear provided for use if needed
-just walk down the stairs from your suite to the beach
-a five minute drive into town for restaurants and shopping
-a forty minute walk down the beach to the Wikaninnish Inn for great (albeit pricey) food in a restaurant with a stunning view of the ocean
-a gas fireplace
-lots of options for lighting... dimmer switches everywhere, little lamps, candles... whatever your mood or inclination
-lots of heating options in the suite, it can be as warm or cool as you like it
-a short drive to the Pacific Rim National Park and all it's wonderful trails and beaches

Small Complaints:
-not a huge fan of the Japanese soaker tub... although it serves it's purpose. I can see from other reviews that some liked it... but I would have preferred a shower or regular tub
-no freezer in the little fridge...had to ask for ice whenever we needed it (which the owners were happy to oblige)
-expensive (but you know what? it was definitely worth it!)

If you can afford it, stay at the Chesterman Beach B & B. If you can't afford it, save some money by not eating out... and stay at the Chesterman B & B. You won't regret it!

Room Tip: The Lookout Suite has the best view of the ocean! Get it if you can.
