Just returned from a one night stay here and honestly expected more! It has a beautiful beach which does set it apart from others In Tofino. The room was a one bedroom with only a double bed and a pullout couch which was very uncomfortable. The rooms are not equipped as most resorts two things that stumped me were no iron nor a telephone in the room? We could not find the linen for the couch bed and cell service is poor. So we had to head to the lobby in the pouring rain only to find it closes at 10 pm! Tried the buzzer no answer so jotted the phone number on the door down and tried again with the cell phone. Just a little ridiculous for a supposedly high end resort?? On a positive note though they do deliver a lovely breakfast to your room for a reasonable price :)

Room Tip: You definitely want a room on the ground floor on the ocean!

To note our beds are of the highest quality and we have received rave reviews. In future if we are afforded an opportunity to have you stay with us, we would be happy to provide a bed board to firm up the bed. The location of the resort is great, with the beach and ocean only metres away. We had an ocean view studio suite, and while the bedroom and living area worked well, the kitchen and bathroom worked less well and felt squeezed in. I think it would be better to offer these as bedrooms and provide a larger bathroom. We saw lots of larger parties and families taking advantage of the BBQ facilities, but we were only in Tofino for two nights and prefer to eat out and so we really missed the option of an onsite restaurant as it is about 7 kms into Tofino and its restaurants. Having said that, the resort car dropped us off and picked us up on one of the nights to enable us to have a few drinks and this worked well.

Three days in an ocean-front junior suite (a studio, with kitchenette, fireplace, sofa, armchair and king bed) was not enough, even though the weather was wet (there's a reason this part of Vancouver Island, on the Wild West coast, is known as the "wet coast") and there was no on-site restaurant.
Our trip was in mid-June and during our stay we experienced hot sunshine, cold rain, gentle showers, blue skies, dark grey skies, and an ocean ranging from an almost Caribbean blue to steel grey. Always with rolling waves, and accompanying surfers who seem not to care whether the sun is shining or the rain is pouring. This part of the Pacific is a fairly constant temperature of between 8 and 10 C. They wear wetsuits. And they provided us with ongoing entertainment.
Our generous balcony (we were on the second floor of the Lodge building) faced right on to the beach - a virtually flat walk from one storey down across a lush lawn.
Tide pools in the next bay are full of life at low tide, abundant with sea anemones, star fish, crabs and grasses.
The resort is on the broad and somewhat sheltered expanse of Cox Bay. As resorts go, it's not for those seeking ultra luxury. If you want marble counter tops, a dishwasher, or soaker tub, you won't find it here. And the rates reflect that. They're half of what a nearby luxury resort charges. What you will find is a million-dollar view with gorgeous sunsets (weather conditions allowing), generous sized accommodation with a fireplace (the area is popular with winter storm watchers, but even in June we enjoyed its warmth at night), and friendly, helpful staff.
The nearest restaurant is in the neighbouring resort, but the little shop in the reception area stocks a few basics - microwavable curry, noodles, snacks, and they make a mean cappuccino to boot. There's also a good selection of DVDs for a $2 "donation" to a local education fund. And the store area is the best spot to pick up WiFi. It didn't work in our room, at least, and the staff admit it's "spotty". I.e., you try different spots around the resort and see if you luck out.
All in all, a great place to be, rain or shine. And you're sure to get both! (Rain slickers are provided with each room, and beach walks are fun whatever the weather.)
Don't miss a trip to Ucluelet. Walk the Wild Pacific Trail, aptly named as it takes you to some amazing seascapes, showing the ocean's power. In this little town we visited the Mark Penney Gallery and a little gem of an aquarium at the foot of Main Street. It's not well signed as you drive into town but is well worth looking for.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean front room.

We spent five nights here in June but have been many times over the past 20 years. Pacific Sands is truly a place to relax and rejuvenate. The Beach Front suites are spacious and located in an ideal spot, steps from wonderful Cox Bay. The suites have undergone several updates over the years and are comfortable and warm. Kitchens are well- appointed and specialized cooking equipment is available from the office if wished. Beds comfortable and bathrooms small but fine. The gas fireplace is very useful on many occasions, considering the unreliable weather on the West Coast. This visit, we had pretty good weather with a little rain. Walking the local beaches is a great way to spend ones time, especially Cox Bay which we walk twice each day.

I am constantly amazed at the reviews complaining about the lack of restaurants etc. at this hotel. Do these people not read up about the hotel before deciding to book? We actually are more than pleased that there is no restaurant there - and there is a lovely one next door for a special occasion plus many good eating places in Tofino (only 4 miles away)

As for WiFi, yes, it was not available in the rooms due to a weak signal but all I had to do was walk over to the office and I connected at some point on the way so not a problem. Do we always have to be linked up or can we not enjoy a little "down time"

My only complaint is that the management is raising the price every year by a sizeable amount and they are pricing themselves out of reach for many long time guests - I suppose they keep the place occupied anyway but a shame for those of us who have been so faithful over the years.

We stayed in a Beach front lodge which we found very comfortable. Even though it was June, the weather left a lot to be desired and the fire in the lounge was a great bonus and really cheered the room up. The kitchen was well appointed and very well equipped with enough cutlery and crockery for 8 people.

The bedroom was not over large, with only a standard, but comfortable, double bed but there were 2 separate built in wardrobes.

The location was excellent, with patio leading straight onto the lawn and beach. Although free wifi was offered we were unable to get any connection throughout our stay.

There is no restaurant on site, but we were aware of this beforehand and were pleasantly surprised by the provision of frozen meals available from Reception if we wanted. The staff were exceptionally welcoming and friendly and on hand to offer any helpful advice if required.

Stayed: June 2013
