What an amazing end to our canadian holiday. Vancouver island is a wonderful place but a stay at the Wickanninish really brings out the best. The hotel is in a stunning location. We had a suite at the inn on the beach. On arrival, we were greeted by welcoming staff who showed us to our room. They had made an effort to meet all of our needs, leaving buckets and spades for our daughter and a basket of fruit for us. The views are stunning, the bath overlooks the ocean - it is a huge bath and we were provided with fab spa bubbles to maintain our modesty! The windows are massive and perfectly positioned to optimise the views - which consist of the sea, sand, eagles flying, surfing lessons and general fun beach activities. We ate at the driftwood cafe - very nice but small portions(!) and once at the Pointe restaurant - this was really lovely and again - stunning views. We love this hotel and will be returning!

Room Tip: The higher the floor - the better the view.

There is no need to reiterate the many glowing reviews of this unique hotel, and we were very pleased to have followed the advice of a Canadian friend who knew this would be a very special experience for us. The stay was excellent, despite two minor issues.

The first was a very unwelcoming reception when we arrived at 2pm to be told that our room would not be ready for another 2 hours, and we should have known as this time is stated on their web site. Still suffering from jet lag, having arrived from England the previous day, compounded by 5 hours in the car driving from Victoria, we would have benefited from a more sympathetic welcome, for example taking us to the lounge and getting us a drink !

Which brings me to my second minor criticism – the mean measure of the glasses of wine we had with our dinner that night. Normally we share a bottle, but as one of us wanted white and the other red, we opted to start with a glass of each – now I know the management is going to say that 125ml was accurately measured out and that this is technically “a glass”, this looked more like a taster than a drink to accompany a meal, and considering the price, left a bad taste in our mouths - the experience, not the wine !! But we recovered, and left with good memories of our visit.

Room Tip: 'At-the-Pointe' building overlooks the rocks - which we loved. If you want to see the beach...

Dear Roger-Brenda,

Thank you for posting a Review of your recent stay at our Inn on Trip Advisor and sharing your experience with our online community.

We appreciated your feedback and thrilled to know you enjoyed your experience and left with good memories and hopefully a little more relaxed than on your day of arrival.

We are truly sorry we were unable to accommodate you directly upon your arrival as we were exceptionally busy on that particular day. I fully agree with you we should have offered you immediate directions to the lounge after your lengthy drive from Victoria as I am sure it was well into cocktail hour at least by UK time.

Regarding wine, unfortunately we have some of the highest taxes on alcoholic beverages in the western world and despite that we do try our best to be as fair as possible while also maintaining reasonable margins. We do offer half litre options for wine as well, which often works best for many guests.

On behalf of Charles McDiarmid and our entire Wickaninnish Inn team we thank you for your kind Review and look forward to welcoming you back to the Wickaninnish Inn and The Pointe Restaurant!

One of Canada's most famous properties. Beautiful location, and Tofino sort of a cool surfer-dude town. Hotel, though, is "very Canada"...blah aesthetic etc (Canada is severely lacking in endowment with unique properties that speak to what is great about Canada, but with that blend appeal to the global aesthetic travel set). Restaurant overrated for dinner but great for breakfast. Friendly staff.

Dear Globetrekker63,

Thank you for posting a Review of your recent stay at our Inn on Trip Advisor and sharing your experience with our online community.

We are pleased to know you enjoyed your stay with us even though you did not feel our west coast Canadian aesthetic did not also live up to your expectations as a global traveller. I would be very interested to know where you felt we could improve especially in regards to our guest rooms and so will attempt to be in touch by private message as well.

Thanks too for your feedback on what I believe was The Pointe Restaurant and again we were pleased to know you felt the service was very friendly and you enjoyed the breakfast experience but disappointed to learn you felt the dinner experience was overrated.

On behalf of Charles McDiarmid and our entire Wickaninnish Inn team we truly appreciate and thank you for your kind comments and as well for those that are more constructive in nature. We look forward to being in touch to learn a little more as we are constantly seeking to improve the experience we provide each and every guest.

I love Tofino having visted twice before so we had decided this time we would definitely stay at the Wick. It didnt disappoint. The room was certainly one of the best I have ever stayed in, not just the view or the fact you can see it from your perfectly positioned bathtub and picture window! My son was impressed by the TV which only appears electrically from its hidden location when you press a button. The closet contains everything you need from wet weather gear to a ruck sack. The location of this hotel has to be one of the most dramatic and scenic in the world. We loved it.

I am not picky but I will just say for me the only let down was the breakfast service. It could not be more different from the service in the Pointe on an evening which was exceptional. But at breakfast I really don't need 20 minutes or more to chose from the breakfast menu. The first day we were there the breakfsast experience took an hour and unfortunately only 15 mins of that involved eating.

The rest however was great.

Room Tip: Ask for a beach view room in the Pointe Building.

Green Features: Really strong on the environment here and you can see why they would be. This place is a natural wonder.

Dear Poonani,

Thank you for posting a Review of your recent stay at our Inn on Trip Advisor and sharing your experience with our online community.

I’m so happy to hear you had a lovely stay at the Inn and in Tofino, and that your son picked up on one of my personal favourite details – the hidden TV!

We appreciate your feedback on The Pointe Restaurant’s breakfast service as well. Many guests prefer to linger over the view from The Pointe during the day, though we could certainly speed this up if a guest would rather have an expedient meal. Our Driftwood Café also offers a selection of pastries and breakfast options for guests who are on the go.

On behalf of Charles McDiarmid and our entire Wickaninnish Inn team we thank you for your kind Review and hope to welcome you back to the Wickaninnish Inn, The Pointe Restaurant and perhaps the Driftwood Café!

My husband and I travel to Tofino each summer to celebrate our anniversary and enjoy the relaxation of The Wick. It is such a special place with its own unique Pacific Rim decor, the setting in the rainforest as it meets the Pacific Ocean, and expansive, flat Chesterman Beach where we take our daily walks. Service is attentive and personal. The main dining room , The Pointe, is 270 degrees of glass windows overlooking the ocean waves rolling over the outcroppings onto the beach full of surfers. There is also a smaller cafe in the Beach building for a quick breakfast , lunch or casual supper or for beachwalkers to stop in for a capuccino, As relaxing and low key everything is from bike riding, nature walks and just exploring the beach, make sure you book a treatment in their spa. Our side by side couple's massage in their cedar sanctuary has become a yearly tradition not to be missed. Thank you to all who work to make the Wick so special to all of us who travel so far to experience its magic.

Room Tip: All rooms have ocean view although the Pointe building overlooks open ocean whereas the Beach buildi...

Green Features: The Wick tries to be sensitive to being green. Their towels and sheets are highest quality, but they suggest towels be hung up to dry and not washed and replaced everyday. Brita water filter pitchers are placed in the rooms for fresh water.

Remote and not easy to get to, but worth it! Very romantic and cozy. Room was lovely with great views of the ocean. Binoculars are provided so you can spot the many bald eagles in the treetops. The area is simply beautiful and has great outdoor activities: lots of beautiful hiking. This is truly a special hotel in a very special place.

We were celebrating special birthdays and were kindly upgraded to an absolutely gorgeous room, wow having a bath whilst looking out over the Pacific, what a treat.
Every little extra you could think of was in the room, binoculars, rain coats etc.
Not a cheap option, but absolutely worth it for a special treat, the restaurant is a must!!
