“Ocean Adventure with Long Beach Lodge Chartered Boat”
Reviewed 9 August 2012

We've just returned from an unforgettable morning of crabbing & salmon fishing in the pacific ocean with our three small children, ages 5, 3 and 5 months old. We tentatively arranged this adventure knowing that we might literally be 'in over our heads' trying to manage all the excitement of an ocean adventure while making sure each of our little ones were safe & content! Fortunately Captain Steve's enthusiasm & dedication made our first family ocean experience one that we'll remember happily for years to come! Steve was determined to give our little ones a chance to catch their first salmon, taking extra time to search out pockets of fish until we finally were able to successfully catch not just one, but two beautiful salmon! After sitting and watching Hump Backed Whales off in the distance, we made our way back to shore, hauling up our trap full of crab along the way... the kid's eyes were wide with awe watching all the crab wriggle around inside the trap!
Steve was kind enough to offer his expertise in preparing the fish & crab, even coming to our cabin to show us how to fillet the salmon & clean the crab! We couldn't have asked for a more authentic, real experience! We sure enjoyed a feast of salmon & crab that evening!!
We would enthusiastically recommend doing an ocean trip with Long Beach Lodge during your next Tofino visit. The two hour duration was perfect for our young family, allowing us to have a very full west-coast experience without exhausting ourselves or the kids!
One thing to note... if you plan to fish, make sure to purchase a licence prior to the trip so that you don't waste any time doing this during your allotted time!!

We stayed in one of the cottages and had a fabulous time at this amazing resort! The staff is so helpful and friendly, and food superb! The Great Room is so comfortable and breakfast was great each day! We saw a whale while having dinner! Kids loved the beach and exploring the tide pools. We did the Marine Adventure boat trip with Steve and he was a great guide! It was only our family and he took us bear watching and we saw a mother with cubs and two other black bears. We got very close and it was amazing! He even caught a few crabs which kids loved. We did surf lesson with Jamie and Garrett at the Surf Club and had the best time! They put us at ease and we had a blast in the water! We all even stood up on the boards, even us parents! I would highly recommend both the Marine Adventure and surf lessons!

Long Beach Lodge is terrific! It has a relaxed vibe; from the "lobby", which feels more like someone's ski house, to the comfortable Great Room overlooking the beach, to the cozy rooms, any stress will start to melt away. We stayed in a penthouse suite, which was spacious & enjoyable, w/ a sitting area & gas fireplace & a balcony overlooking the beach. There was low-key activity going on the beach - people playing in the water, learning to surf, walking their dogs, bonfires at night...fun to observe from the privacy of our room. Staff are very pleasant. There is a complimentary expanded continental breakfast which is tasty & more than adequate to get your day started. We had dinner one night in the Great Room, which was also very nicely done. The Lodge is pleasantly upscale-rustic, where you can look forward to peeling off your fleece & hiking boots @ the end of a busy day, & not feel like you're roughing it.

Room Tip: splurge on a penthouse suite if you can; sleep w/ your balcony door open a little to listen to the s...

We stayed in one of the pet friendly cabins for a wedding we attended on the property. We had a fabulous time, the cabin was lovely, the bed was super comfortable and the service was superb.
Next time we want a luxurious stay in Tofino, we will definitely check in here.

Great top class resort on a very private beach with world class scenery and staff. Food and overall service was first class and provided a great relaxing environment from the minute we arrived to the time we left. You can't go wrong with this spot.

My husband and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary here this week. We're still talking about this wonderful resort--incredibly friendly staff at every level. Our room (114) was beach level and perfect for strolling out and just taking in that beautiful view. Every detail is taken care of with such care. Things are clean, comfortable, and very laid back. There is a nice continental breakfast, especially those croissants! We chartered the resort boat and guide to do some bear watching and fortunately got the one sunny afternoon of the week. Steve was the perfect boat-host and really gave us an appreciation for Tofino and the whole Pacific Rim area. We would go back again in a heartbeat.

My husband and I stayed here on a much-needed relaxing trip to Vancouver Island. We stayed in one of the beachfront rooms on the third floor (but not one of the ones right on top of the restaurant). We loved our room and we loved the resort.

The room had a beautiful view of the beach and was really well-designed, with two exceptions that I will get to in a minute. The balcony had chairs and then there was another sitting area just inside the glass-sliding door. The bed was after that and the bathroom was closest to the hallway. The huge tub was behind louvered screens in the part of the bathroom that was closest to the glass-sliding door. So all that means that you could sit outside, you could sit just inside, you could lie down on the bed, or you could lounge in the tub and still see the beautiful view and get the cool air. Terrific! We kept the glass-sliding door open all the time and it was a cool, lovely place to stay.

The main exception to all this perfection is the shower stall. It's a very small, prefab stall with only one tiny soap shelf. And the door opens in such a way that you can't reach the area around the sink and use it as a shelf for the shower. I am not a huge person, but it meant shaving my legs was hard. My husband is very tall and it was not easy for him just to bathe. I'm not sure why they designed it that way, since it's very easy to see what they could have done to give themselves more room, although it would probably be difficult to retrofit now that they've built it. The other exception is that the closet does not have a light in it. Since I kept my suitcase in there, I had to use the light in the "hall" between the closet and the bathroom, but in order to get into the suitcase, I ended up blocking the light with my body. I suppose I could have knelt on the floor to get into the suitcase, but I didn't want to do that. My guess is that it would be pretty easy for the resort to correct this problem.

But I don't want to focus on the problems at all. We loved it there and would go back in a minute. The lodge was just the right size, not so small that it lacked amenities, but not so large that we had to go all over the place to eat or do laundry or get to the public areas. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast in the great room was good and served in a pleasant location.

We enjoyed the outdoor seating. Several times, we sat outside and read while looking at the view. We enjoyed walking up and down the beach, although the water was too cold for us to swim. It was fun to watch the surfers and we even enjoyed the presence of the dogs, although it surprised us how many there were and that they ran free on the beach. But they were all uniformly well behaved and their owners must have cleaned up after them because we never encountered dog poop on the beach (and only once in the parking lot).

The service was good, too. One night, someone had built a fire on the beach and the smoke was throttling us in our room. We called downstairs to find out if that were permitted and were told that it was not and it would be taken care of right away. It was out within 10 minutes. I'm not sure we were the earliest call, but it sure felt like quick service to us.

We would go back to Tofino and the Long Beach Lodge Resort in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Make sure to get a room with a balcony that looks straight out to the view as high up as possible...
