It was shocking to learn through a frightening fall that the final essential steps to the pools were anctually wobbly loose boards that had been a problem for more than two weeks without repair. There were no warning signs. Given the high level of foot traffic to the site, this is unacceptable.
Visitors need to know that it is a long but beautiful walk. Two up and down kilometres and 855 steps each way. This is NOT for mobility challenged visitors.

Too many people. Sharp rocks. No where to sit. No where to eat. Stinky stray dogs. Hot spring pools have enough room for one tour boat’s worth of people. Any more and it is packed.

Things have gone way down hill since my previous visit to Hot Springs Cove back in 2001. Since then, the local tour companies have heavily over sold the springs to the point that it was by far the worst part of my time in Tofino as described above. Not relaxing whatsoever.

Avoid this place at all costs. It isn’t worth the money to be stepped on and crawled over by the countless people that visit the springs daily.

You don’t need to go to say you’ve been there. Listen to this review and don’t go. You will regret it if you do.

My husband and I signed up for the tour with Unique Passages in Tofino to take their covered boat to Host Springs Cove. The tour on the water was okay, we saw some wildlife, and we were okay with the incredibly bumpy ride due to strong winds. The hike on the boardwalk was nice once on the island. However, we were very frustrated at the hot springs because of the crowds of people (3-4 boats/zodiacs were there at the same time with each having capacity for 12 passengers) trying to negotiate the slippery rocks to wait for a turn in the springs. There were two pools of springs: one would ideally fit 4-5 people, the other maybe 8 or 9. We were cramped like sardines together awkwardly with strangers. Some tourists did not budge the whole time (one had a book with him) and monopolized the pool while others had to get out quickly for others to try a soak. It was truly beautiful but a great disappointment given how oversold the tours are to expect people to relax at the Springs. The amount spent on the tour was not at all worth it given this unfortunately.

Beautiful, albeit crowded, place. Lovely 30 minute hike. Wonderful, natural experience for everyone.

What more can be said?! This isn't a place that can be described in words - seeing is believing. Revel in the quaint and vibrant memories left by the broad range of people who have visited this magical location. There are wild dogs on the island, but they are friendly, and aside from begging for snacks they are hardly a bother. The pools can get very busy so a suggestion is to visit outside of peak season or in the shoulder hours of the day when things die down... bring a bottle of wine, you won't regret soaking here! The springs can be accessed both by boat and by plane, if you don't have your own boat I suggest taking the float plane for an experience that is uniquely west coast (especially if you get into a DHC-2!) you owe it to yourself!
