Great breakfast with Laura, good location, we just parked our vehicle and biked everywhere. As we arrived after 9 pm and finding the key, there were no lights by the back door and foyer to help us find our way around. Did not realized we had a room below ground level with cars parked by our bedroom window and a notice not to leave any crumbs or food around because of an ant problem. Bathroom and shower stall doors would not close tight and properly. After messaging the owner he found us another accommodating for the next day. Fee is reasonable but make sure you ask to stay in room higher up. The house is very old and needs upkeep but the staff is very friendly and tries to keep the house clean and inviting. Yes construction was across the street but did not bother us as were were gone most of the day after breakfast and the workers stop working around 5 pm.

Room Tip: Don't stay in a room below ground level

We stayed in the Mateo room, just off the kitchen on the main floor. It was clean and quiet. The staff were super friendly and went out of their way with the motto "Our home is your home." The breakfast was superb with Laura making excellent eggs, pancakes, omelettes. The home is centrally located so we were able to walk or take public transportation anywhere we wanted to go.

Room Tip: Variety of rooms - penthouse, family suites, dorm style. Some rooms have showers and some have baths, so confirm before booking.

We stayed here and the construction across the street is noisy dusty and invasive. There are multiple old car and rev wrecks on the property and homeless people wandering the parking area. All and all, inexpensive but very poor value for money.

I usually stay with family in Vancouver, but when the flu struck them, I needed to find a place to stay with only a day's notice. I was there for business and needed a placed located within walking distance of Science World. I booked the room with bath based on the photos of the rooms online, preferring a hotel but not finding any in the area and price range.

I was very pleased with the stay. They let me eat breakfast early, as I had to be at a meeting during their breakfast hours. I spent two nights and found it very cozy and fun to be in a home-like environment rather than a sterile hotel. Food is plentiful all around, and it is very close to the sky train station.

We decided to do a last minute weekend getaway to Vancouver and booked a room at the Douglas House while driving towards the border. After booking the room I looked at the check-in hours and realized we would not be there in time. So I called the number and was able to arrange to pick up the room key and information from the mailbox.

We were in Garden Suite D, which shares an entrance with another suite around the back of the house. It was a great little room, very comfortable. It had a queen bed, a couple side tables and chair, a dresser and a small tv, plus a closet area. The private bathroom was on the smaller side but met our requirements. The room was pretty quiet. We could barely hear some construction noise in late morning, and only heard a few footsteps above us another morning during the breakfast hours.

Breakfast was served next door in Cambie Lodge our first morning, then at Douglas House our second morning. There was croissants and some fruit, toast, and cereal. We also could order French toast, pancakes, Veggie omelets, or two eggs served different ways. We had plenty to eat both days, and the ladies who worked in the breakfast area were friendly and welcoming.

The Douglas House is in a good location. It’s in the Mt Pleasant neighborhood close to Vancouver City Hall, and it is convenient to downtown. You can either drive on Cambie Street across the bridge or walk a few blocks to the Sky Train station. We also walked from the B&B to downtown, but it may be too far for some.

The neighborhood felt safe, and the free parking was a bonus. However, there is one thing that prevents this from getting a perfect review. Both nights we parked in the garage next door to the B&B. It’s not a secured garage but we figured it was fine off the street and coming from Seattle we never leave anything in the car anyways. Our second night there we got back around 11:30 pm, and went to bed. The next morning before checking out we out took the bags and discovered that the front passenger window had been smashed! There wasn’t anything too important in the vehicle – a couple spare coats hidden in the trunk, a mobile phone charger, some gift cars and the car info in the glove compartment – nothing that can’t be replaced. The staff at Douglas House were helpful, getting us in touch with the police and helping clean up all the glass. They did say this hasn’t happened before; looking at other reviews it looks like it has, but I have heard that Vancouver is having property crime issues. Our car was the closest to the entrance and the only one without BC plates so maybe they expected to find more even though we leave nothing visible? I don’t blame the Douglas House for this, but it did put a damper on our otherwise great stay.
