Ever since Shangri-La opened their first hotel in North America in Vancouver, we have been staying there whenever we visit Vancouver.

The staff are always very professional and polite, and remind us of our many excellent hotel experiences in Asia.

The atmosphere of the hotel is very warm and relaxing, and the quality of furnishing and fixtures throughout the hotel is of very high quality and tastefully chosen.

This is one of the few hotels in North America that can justifiably call themselves a five star hotel.

For a delicious breakfast, we would highly recommend the Chinese Breakfast, which includes congee, dim sum, and other delicious items.

Obviously, as a shangri-la the service is excellent, the beds super comfortable, the rooms very nicely laid out and appointed. but as someone who had never been to vancouver, the location is great. it is next to the urban fare market where i could pick up picnic lunch or snacks for a day out touring. there were also endless good restaurants in the area. it is next to the coastal church which is apparently a tourist site. the set up is a little odd with the lobby being in the car park level and thus feeling very basement-y and then the street level is only a concierge and a very weirdly laid out hallway. the hall leading to the guest elevators is very narrow and barely accomodates two-wide. the rooms are very nice, spacious, well-appointed and the showers are large. the fruit is a nice touch and the breakfast being included was helpful since it was alacarte only at a jean-georges restaurant. my only complaint is how the food was charged on the bill. we had breakfast included and a $100 food credit. the breakfast included was up to $76 but we never saw an itemized bill (at the restaurant or checkout) so i never could quite tell if i spent more or not. i assumed that i was somehow getting covered by that and the food credit but i wasn't and i have no clue how it all got counted - it was so complex i think you needed the patience of a saint to work it all out. it almost made you think they did that on purpose so you wouldnt check.
there were nice modern touches in the decor but some of my travel companions wanted a little more "special" in the decor. also, just a little note on the competition: when i stay at mandarin orientals i get not only fruit but jasmine tea when i get brought to the room...i'm just sayin!
also - to the other reviewer - they may have heard you because i got an email before i arrived telling me the carpark entrance was on alberni street!

This is a very good option as a business hotel. Good location. Good rooms, and super friendly staff. It all works. That's the good stuff. Niggles are that it's annoying that there isn't a buffet option at breakfast. This means that you're waiting foodless for 10 minutes for a breakfast which when it arrives isn't really what you want to eat anyway. Far better to have a buffet so you can graze between fruit, muesli, toast - and everything you may want to put on it, rather than have to eat off the menu. The restaurant on the 3rd floor doesn't look like the kind of place that you'd want to eat dinner either, but there are a number of places you can walk to. Bar is ok but you'd only go there because it was convenient, rather than because it's a good bar. Swimming pool is small and seating round it is very limited, so whilst it's better than not having one at all, it's not a relaxing place to unwind and with 8 people round it, you're sitting on the deck. Not helped by vast construction project over the street, which means it's shouting only around the pool for the next year over the pounding noise of jack-hammers. Gym is surprisingly good... A good size with a good mix of machinery and free weights and is clean and modern with windows overlooking the street below. Internet is free but annoying in that every time you close down your laptop or turn off your phone, you have to re-log in. Irritating. Don't go for any of the rooms on the SW side of the hotel because of said construction site. Rooms go up to floor 15 of the 60-something floor building and best to be as high up as possible. 07 rooms have dual aspect which is a bonus. Beds are extremely comfortable with proper down pillows and the curtains block out all the light. TV's are large with ipod docks and bathrooms are good - only let down by surprisingly weedy shower. Overall, a good place to stay - not a great one - but you won't go far wrong if you're booked in here.

Room Tip: 07 rooms have dual aspect. Stay as high up as possible due to traffic noise. Avoid rooms opposite...

1. Add information about vehicular access to the hotel on website and all promotion materials of the hotel. The address is on West Georgia Street. The entrance to the lobby is on Alberni Street.
2. Hence more noticeable sign that the lobby is on the "LL" floor would be helpful.
3. Safety hand bars for the bath tubs would reduce greatly the risk of accidents.

Room Tip: Noisy construction on Alberni side. The side facing W Georgia street might be better

Our stay here was wonderful. The staff was amazing. We had a misunderstanding with the parking that resulted in us having 2 tickets each a $60 fine. The manager was so great and resolved our issue by instantly covering the fees for us . It really reflects how professional they are as a team. We definitely would come back to this location. The management here is phenomenal.

There is just no way to fault this hotel. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel like royalty. The rooms are stunning , extremely well designed and very comfortable. Complimentary wifi is great. Even though I booked through a regular travel site, I received a hand written note from the manager and a complimentary welcome gift. Everything in this hotel exceeds your expectation. Had a massage in the spa, which has to be the most luxurious spa I have ever seen

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with views of the bay
