A six night stay in wonderful Vancouver was enhanced by great staff. With just 119 rooms, the staff are helpful, polite and ready to go beyond the call of duty. As they should and it was indeed a breath of fresh air after arriving from one of impersonal hotels in Las Vegas where money is the dominant feature and not service. The vehicular entrance to the Shangri-La does not set the world on fire. Somewhat bewildering to have it under ground level where check in is processed. Management nonetheless, have to live with the design and make it work. It does seem logical to minimize street congestion and have vehicles one level below the street. So as you scratch your head upon arrival, the service compensates from the front desk sweeps into action with a warm and genuine greeting. My wife and I were warmly welcomed by NY native Jeffrey Victor, a young enthusiastic and budding GM of the future. Nothing was too much trouble and he was delight to meet. Other staff from housekeeping who did an excellent job, to the food and beverage team were polite, efficient and happy to please. I received a phone call from Phillipe Renaud, the Sales Director and the following morning had the pleasure of meeting him at breakfast.
In the elevator as my wife and I were heading out, a formal and very professional man entered and I made a flippant comment that he looked very official. Turned out it was the GM. We chatted and exchanged business cards. Very handy when we return to Vancouver! So, in a nutshell, here is a quirky property with great staff, well positioned in the Center of Vancouver near all the shops that clearly does well under the guidance of its leader. Lastly, the concierge team led by Stefan know their "stuff" and like the reception team, one level below are the directors of first impressions. Our first impression was just what is expected of this chain. Perfect.
