As others have written, the inside of this hotel could possibly be termed as "dingy", but the location is great, the bed linens are clean (yes, we checked carefully for bedbugs and there were none!), the shower is hot, the rooms are "roomy", and the front desk is staffed 24/7 and is very helpful. Plus there is a good chance that you will get a room with a beautiful view looking out on English Bay. No, there is no free coffeee in the rooms, but there is a Starbucks within about 45 seconds.
Right across the street there is a restaurant called "Rain CIty Grill" that is very popular among the locals, so make sure to get a reservation on weekends. Food is upscale and very good, but there is limited seating and it is often taken by locals.
Plua you are right in the middle of any sort of ethnic food restaurant that you could possibly want, plus pizza places and hamburger joints, if that is what you prefer. I recommend the Babylon Cafe just two doors down for some excellent take-out.
For breakfast, try some of the small cafes where the locals also eat.
There is a "mom and pop" rental bike place right around the corner (English Bay Bikes) where we rented bikes to take a ride around Stanley Park and also to catch an "Aquabus" to Granville Island.
If you can get past the fact that this is not the most modern and updated hotel around, I greatly recommend it for those on a budget.
