“Good budget hotel”
Reviewed 2 October 2010

As others have written, the inside of this hotel could possibly be termed as "dingy", but the location is great, the bed linens are clean (yes, we checked carefully for bedbugs and there were none!), the shower is hot, the rooms are "roomy", and the front desk is staffed 24/7 and is very helpful. Plus there is a good chance that you will get a room with a beautiful view looking out on English Bay. No, there is no free coffeee in the rooms, but there is a Starbucks within about 45 seconds.
Right across the street there is a restaurant called "Rain CIty Grill" that is very popular among the locals, so make sure to get a reservation on weekends. Food is upscale and very good, but there is limited seating and it is often taken by locals.
Plua you are right in the middle of any sort of ethnic food restaurant that you could possibly want, plus pizza places and hamburger joints, if that is what you prefer. I recommend the Babylon Cafe just two doors down for some excellent take-out.
For breakfast, try some of the small cafes where the locals also eat.
There is a "mom and pop" rental bike place right around the corner (English Bay Bikes) where we rented bikes to take a ride around Stanley Park and also to catch an "Aquabus" to Granville Island.
If you can get past the fact that this is not the most modern and updated hotel around, I greatly recommend it for those on a budget.

We were transferred to this hotel due to maintenance problems at the Oceanside hotel in English Bay. It is dark and gloomy, tired and run down. The one and only bedside lamp was not working, no remote control for the television. No tea or coffee available, although it had a kitchenette. Curtains were drab, the catch of the window was broken. Overall, a dismal place. I would not recommend it, but for the location , being right on the beach front.
I felt unsafe.

step out the hotel door and you're on the beach!
i was fortunate to have a room on the 4th floor with ocean view (definetly worth the extra 15$ per night)
located in a great part of the city - very safe, close to public transport, lots of local flavour and awesome cafés, at the foot of Stanley Park, and so close to the beach that you can smell the ocean air.
yes, it is in dire need of renovations - however, for just over 100$ per night, you will never find a hotel that offers 2 beds, a sitting area, a walk-in closet, and a full kitchen. The cleaning staff were meticulous and came daily.
