“Fantastic!”
Reviewed 2 December 2011

We booked this hotel via Hotwire and wow, were we surprised. Stayed for Grey Cup 2011 and as this hotel is so well located in the downtown, we could walk everywhere! 1 block from the Convention Center and Canada Place. 5 min walk to Robson street where there are shops and restaurants abound! We walked to the big game in under 25 min. Rooms are a nice size and very very modern. Did not hear anyone else on the floor (8th). Security in elevator with only key access to floors. Staff was excellent! I am almost afraid to write this review as it may lead to more and more travellers to use this hotel. I would recommend to anyone going to Vancouver!

Room Tip: Great views facing the harbour!

We stayed at the Coast Coal Harbour for Grey Cup weekend, November 25-28, 2011. The hotel is newer (opened 2 weeks before the 2010 Winter Olympics) and is comfortably modern. Nice sized rooms, small floors, low noise (on the 15th floor), and good downtown location on West Hastings Street, a block from the waterfront and Convention Centre.

Preston's, the hotel's restaurant, is also quite good. There is a 7-11 just behind the hotel for quick purchases and a couple of good coffee shops (including several Starbucks) in the surrounding blocks.

We enjoyed our stay as the hotel was clean and quiet but I have to remark that the fantastic service made this one of my favourite stays. All of the staff was incredible!

Accessible by Canada Line from Airport 4 level walking blocks from the last stop Seabus Waterfront Station. Here is a tip, go to the 7-11 store located on the lower level of YVR domestic arrival and buy a book of 10 transit pass 2 zone $31.50 otherwise will cost $8.75 per person. After 6 and weekends can use 1 zone pass which is $21 for book of 10. Taxi from airport about $34.

The hotel is located 1 block from the Coal Harbour waterfront walk. Construction of hotel was completed just prior to winter Olympics so is very new and extremely clean. It has a pool and excercise area. Preston's is an upscale eat and wine bar located on the Pender St entrance. The market located 1/2 block NW on Bute has good pre cooked home style, they serve buffet at very good prices with Lamb Shanks, Butter chicken, Panini etc winr and beer open till mid evening. They also have fresh fruit bread and good selection of cheeses in the adjacent market. Valet parking $25 + per day. Vancouver has expensive street meter parking 7 days a week until 9pm. As the hotel is located on the last or most west block of Hastings St minimal traffic and street noise. I found the elevator (3) mounted on the top floor are very noisy so requested no rooms on top floor or above the 12th floor.

I do think the doors need to be better sound proofed. Easy to here house keeping knocking on other doors on floor and identifying it is "house Keeping". Noisy fans and air conditioning in rooms. Better leave fan on all time or not at all as does generate louder noise on start up which is frequent depending on the ac setting.

Room Tip: THe hotel is surrounded by highrises so not easy to get view of city. Hastings Street side will have...

Stayed with Coast Coal Harbour for three nights in Vancouver while attending conference. Facilities were great and Hotel is in a great location to access the city with a beautiful walk steps from the main door. Staff are exceptionally friendly and always with welcoming smiles and willingness to assist and make your stay perfect. Conference meals were excellent! Thank you to all!

Booked two nights via Hotwire and received about a 35% savings! Our room was nice and updated; however the door joining to the next room and the hallways door were both lacking any sort of sound proofing.

The first night we were kept up by out neighbours watching TV, and then in the morning we were woken buy them getting ready for the day. It’s not that they were not being loud; it was just the poor sound proofing between the doors. The second night and morning were a little more restful, as we did not have anyone next to us.

The entrance door leading to the hallways was also lacking any sort of sound proofing, which was concerning for our own privacy. We could hear clear as day, the conversations of guests and staff outside our room. Both mornings, we were woken by staff knocking on doors and calling out “house keeping” as well as the opening and closing of a storage closet used by housekeeping.

During our checkout, I was asked by the desk agent how our stay was and I informed him of the noise issues. Instead of apologizing, he informed us he does not receive this complaint very often and because we booked our stay on Hotwire, we didn’t have much choice in our hotel options. I told him we were happy with the hotel and service but just thought he should know about the issue. He didn’t seem too concerned. We had one room charge of $75 for two nights of car parking and when he entered the amount into the debit machine he only entered $14.04 (which was our room number), so I asked him jokingly, if the amount was correct and if he were giving us a deal because of our room issues…. He said “opps, no I’m not” I thought this was the perfect opportunity to make up for our two noisy night, but I guess not.

Would I stay at this hotel again?..… Only if it were deeply discounted.

Room Tip: Joining rooms have no sound proofing between rooms.

I stayed at the Coast Coal Harbour for a few days in June, and was really pleased with the value for money and location - I am constantly amazed at the quality and value of Canadian hotels compared to those in Europe.

The staff were friendly and courteous throughout our stay, ensuring we were provided with maps and helping us to arrange transport when we were ready to leave to make our way to the coach station for the next part of our trip. A minor complaint was that we were initially allocated a double room having booked a twin, but this was quickly fixed and whilst we were out for dinner on our first evening our things were moved into a different room - unfortunately we lost the wonderful harbour view of the first room and ended up in a room which overlooked the neighbouring office block.

The hotel is in an ideal location for exploring downtown Vancouver, and we found we were able to walk to most places that we needed to go to. However, it's not far from the local underground station if you don't want to walk or are travelling a little further.

All in all, I was very pleased with my short stay and would definitely return on a future visit to Vancouver.

We stayed here in mid November for 2 nights and we very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel. I believe it is listed at a 3.5 star hotel, but it is definitely closer to 4.

I booked the room through Hotwire at the excellent price of $86/night. Apart from getting a room with 2 double beds ( it is Hotwire after all), you can't beat the price for the location.

I agree with the majority of positive reviews here and would like to highlight the following:

Pros

*Downtown location, next to the Marriott Pinnacle and other similar hotels

*Clean, bright rooms with iPod docking stations

*free Wi Fi everywhere

*large format soaps and lotions in the bathroom

*Absolutely excellent service from check in to room service to guest services

* pet friendly hotel/non smoking rooms

Cons

*located a bit further away from the entertainment district but well within easy walking distance

*no bathrobes

*in room coffee was really bad--actually un drinkable. The brand was very good, but I suspect there was a problem with the coffee maker, I.e. cleaners not rinsed out properly or similar. The same brand coffee delivered through room service was great.

I would stay here again for sure. It's an excellent choice for business or leisure.
