Just spent a week on honeymoon in Vancouver, splitting our time between the Fairmont Pacific Rim and the Four Seasons. We had advance-booking specials for suites in each hotel - Stanley Park View in the Pacific Rim and Dlx Executive Suite Preferred View at the Four Seasons. With the advance pricing, each suite ended up being around $400 a night.
The Pacific Rim was by far superior and amongst the best hotels we have ever experienced. As with all great hotel experiences, the staff made it particularly magical, with special mention to Nicole serving us (delicious) breakfasts (and tourist advice) and to Matthew Scott and the concierge team for great management of a courier package delayed by Canada customs. But it wasn't just the staff - the room was stunning, particularly the bathroom; televisions came with a 'connector kit' for ease of hook up to iPads; the free internet with free Fairmont club membership was fast and reliable. The only criticism is that the room layout has the sofa facing office buildings rather than looking out the other way over Coal Harbour.
The Four Seasons was a let down after all that. The suite was about the same size - or a bit larger - and the high floor allowed a nice view. Staff were courteous, efficient and practiced rather than warm. We missed the free bottle of mineral water each evening ($8 at Four Seasons), the fast and free internet ($17 a day at four seasons for slower service) and the sexy modern bathrooms. Still a nice hotel and well priced compared to suites in many cities but no match for the Fairmont.
