“Great trip”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

This was one of the highlights of our fantastic North American oddessy. We travelled Gold Leaf from Vancouver to Calgary in September. The staff were great and the weather fantastic. Having the open air platform downstairs meant I could take heaps of photos unimpeded by glass. The transfer at Kamloops was well organised. Although there were lots of freight trains ( the grain harvest season was in full force), we did not spend too much time waiting for them. Apparently the RM gets priority over CN and CP freight trains but even so we were on the road for 15 hours on day 2. Because we wouldn't be arriving in Calgary until 2230, they gave us a light dinner, with wine of course, this is not generally on the menu. There was a great group of punters travelling and many of us congregated downstairs on the platform and we had a good chat and a laugh .The funniest thing was when a grain train was leaving a siding, there was a locomotive mid train making a hell of a racket and some of the punters got a fright as they weren't expecting it. I read some of the poor reviews and all I can say is, get over it, most of us love the RM experience.

“Canada Rocky Mountaineer Train Trip”
Reviewed 6 November 2013

Recently my husband and I went on one of those trips of a lifetime. Canada/Alaska etc. and part of that trip was the Rocky Mountaineer Train. WOW to the scenery, absolutely amazing and the hosts on the train made the experience very special by the way they looked after us. Very personal service. Exceptional food, entertaining hosts, highly recommended.

“A true 'Experience of a Lifetime'”
Reviewed 3 November 2013

We took the trip from Banff to Vancouver in early September 2013, and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the trip. The train itself was great, and the view from our dome coach superb. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and entertaining whist being efficient and thoughtful. Day 1 was longer than anticipated, but beautiful, and our accommodation in Kamloops was most satisfactory despite the late arrival. An early start for day 2 was also worth while as we spent another great day enjoying more but different scenery. The food also lived up to expectations as did everything about the trip.
Do yourself a favour, and book a Gold Leaf trip, I am sure you wont be disappointed!!

“Festive Atmosphere”
Reviewed 1 November 2013

If the trip only included the beautiful scenery, it would have been a fine experience. However the addition of informative and experienced staff, wonderful dining and interesting, entertaining fellow travelers made the trip seem like an extended party.

“Disappointed”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

We took the Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver to Calgary, over three days. We had a built up expectation of what we had to look forward to from friends who had travelled before. We were on the last trip and I don't know if this was why, or the staff in our carriage were a bit non plussed, but when looking at the cost, around $1,000 per day each, we were certainly not 'pampered'. We were asked constantly if we wanted a 'drink'.....the orders were taken and then by the time the attendant had asked for orders and then chatted her way down the aisle, the need for a drink had faded. Drinks were served with a packet of crisps...the selection was waved under our noses only once in the day. Breakfast and lunch was a hurried affair due to two sittings... this was fine, but we always felt hurried, even if you were the last sitting. The only plus about the trip as far as I was concerned was the scenery....it is magnificent, but no thanks to the Rocky Mountaineer company, they just transport you along the line! Oh, and the day we left it was raining, we were offered umbrellas to use, (not enough for all of us) to reach our carriage which was at the front of the train and people with walking difficulties were expected to walk the distance, there was no one to assist an elderly man walking alongside me to his carriage, there should have been buggies to deliver the disabled on walking sticks to their carriage.
