“Always Excellent, but Big and Impersonal”
Reviewed 8 July 2009

Pros: I've stayed in the Pan Pacific several times and have never been disappointed. Hotel staff are good, rooms are comfortable and the location is great. The rooftop pool with harbour and moutain views is always a treat especially at night.

Cons: The hotel is very large and a bit impersonal, and access to the hotel is a bit of a pain as you have to take several elevators up from the ground floor conference centre area at Canada Place. Parking is extra as usual in Vancouver.

Awesome hotel stay prior to our Alaskan cruise. The clean, spacious & comfortable room was a welcome place to rest after our flight from the East Coast. We walked across the street to the food court for dinner before turning in early. The room was quiet and the bed was so very comfortable.

The next morning we called the Bellman . . .they took our bags and the next time we saw them was in our cabin on the ship. It was the easiest cruise check-in EVER!! Not having to haul our luggage was terrific.

We look forward to staying here again the next time we are in Vancouver (espcially if we cruise!). We highly recommend this hotel.

Your enjoyment at Pan Pacific is all about how much you paid. If you paid full price expecting a 5 star hotel, with 5 star rooms, and 5 star service, you will NOT be happy.

But if you got a deal, or a good rate, you'll probably love the place.

It's a contemporary luxury hotel. It's a great location right on the water and a great spot in downtown (everything was close by). It has some of the best water views in all of Vancouver.

But it's overpriced. We had 3 days planned (party of 5), we paid $600 for a suite (separate room king bed and living area and sofabed) with tax over $700+. We were so disappointed we left first thing in the morning (after reaching 1AM at night and 12 hours of flying). The room was crowded, city view, and the furnishings were AVERAGE. I couldn't believe the price we paid, and the service was not anything even CLOSE to 5 star. I was told these same rooms can go over only a couple hundred dollars, but there were TWO conventions going on, and a bunch of cruise ships in port.

We jumped over the the Renaissance down the road, got TWO connected rooms and still was less than HALF the stupid suite we paid (FOR TWO ROOMS!). Also had perfect gorgeous view, 100 times better view than City view in Pan Pacific. Renaissance is not a luxury hotel, but was fine, price was so much better.

Pan Pacific's location is both a pro and a con. It's a signature hotel for Vancouver. it's right on the water and literally attached to the cruise ship port. If you are on a cruise ship it's fantastic. You walk off the boat and take a couple steps and check into the hotel. The convention center is also a few steps away. But this leads to a CONSTANTLY PACKED hotel. You just aren't going to get top service with that scenario. It's crowded like mad with all the guest shuffling in and out of the cruise ships. DO NOT EXPECT OR PAY FOR 5 star service.

Also annoying internet was not complimentary it was something like $20-30 a day, parking was extremely expensive too. If you are not leaving downtown, cabs and walking are a better option.

At one point we needed a wheelchair and that took forever, because it seems like they only have ONE, and they can never find it (even though we called twice ahead of time saying we need it before we go).

On our second stint back to Vancouver a manager got us a room, it was MUCH bigger. While it was one room it was oversized, so it was TWO double beds and had plenty of room for a rollaway. Had an amazing view of the harbour, and it was wide open and spacious for $250-$300. It was LESS THAN HALF the cost of a suite but so much better than that terrible suite.

The second time around was better, the first try was awful but still it's all about your expectations. Don't expect Ritz, 4 Seasons, 5 star hotel service and don't pay for it like we did.

This hotel is in a perfect location returning from, or leaving for a cruise, or if you are there
just to see or visit the most beautiful city in the world. There are all kinds of activities for adults and families, great, interesting restaurants, and views from every where. Shopping is abundant, but expensive. Bike rides through Stanley Park, boat rides, and the Calipano Park if fabulous. I could have spent a week there and wish I had rather than
taking an Alaskan cruise.

This was the 2nd visit to Vancouver for my husband. We picked this hotel for several reasons:
1. Location-We hardly used our rental car. Nearly everything we wanted to see or restaurant we wanted to visit was within walking distance, and easy to find. On top of that, the view of the harbour and mountains from our room was incredible. Walking along the waterfront was very easy.

The hotel has access to the underground area of that business district, with a mall and a food court, and a link to other buildings.
2. Pool Deck-On the 8th floor (it's really higher than that) is a beautiful area open to 11pm at night. There is a large spa and heated pool with trees, plants and lounge chairs. From the spa and pool, I watched the sun set over the mountains. The view is breathtaking. In May, the temp. was in the 60's, and we would go from the spa to the pool. Inside there are saunas. The whole area is new, clean, and has lots of towels. There is even a machine that dries out bathing suits. While on the pool deck, you can watch the sea planes take off and land, see the ships, trains, the cruise ships, and even eagles.

3. Beauty-The hoel looks like a sailing ship. The building itself is incredible, comfortable and has an open feeling. There are so many areas to walk outside by the water. The room we had had a ceiling to floor window and attractive, and comfortable chairs.

The staff was exceptional. Housekeeping could not have been more kind, along with the bell staff. The men who worked at the front door deserved praise for their help with directions, restaurant suggestions and any other questions we had.

The Seven Sails Restaurant was exceptional in service, food and in the view of the harbour. I recommend it highly. The restaurant in the lobby was very good for breakfest.

I would certainly return to this hotel for another visit and recommend it highly. My favorite part was the pool deck.

This is a first rate hotel and it is in a great location. The hotel decor is contemporary and it is extremely nice. The 17th floor room was very large with a sitting area and a nice city view.
The front desk staff and reservation staff were unfriendly and unhelpful and this detracted from an otherwise lovely property.

I stayed here 2 nights before a cruise at the end of May with my mother. The hotel is run very well and the rooms were beautiful and the food in the restaurant, as well as room service, was very good. We got a harbor view room and it was well worth the price...it made our stay in Vancouver very special. They transferred our luugage to the ship for us at no cost. The ship is located steps away from the hotel. We never heard any noise from any other room, etc.
