“Lovely Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2009

Just got back from a week in Vancouver, we spent 3 nights at the Pan Pacific after getting a good deal on hotwire.com. And also 2 nights at the Sutton by Robson Street. (both awesome hotels)
We prefered the Pan Pacific as the room was large and the bed very comfortable, we also had an awesome view over the city and water...very nice.
If your an experienced traveller who doesn't seek or need alot of help from staff/valets etc and happy to cruise along on your own, then this is the place. Because of the size of the hotel, it can seem alittle impersonal at times, but thats what we like...we prefer not to have doors opened for us.
If you want to be pampered, then stay at the Sutton Hotel by Robson St. Which is also very nice and staff are all too willing to help and greet.
Make sure you check out the Granville Island Food markets and a japanese restaurant on Robson St called Ebisu between 4.30pm - 6.30pm for Happy Hour, food is stunning and staff amazing. Price even better!

We chose this hotel because we were going on a cruise which we were led to believe sailed from Canada Place and we would be able to walk on to the ship from the hotel. In fact Celebrity and Royal Carribean Cruises leave from another port a taxi ride away.
When we arrived by car at the front of the Pan Pacific we were met by a valet who couldn't have been more helpful. So far so good. There is a lot of building work going on at the hotel. The entrance up to Reception is by an escalator which takes you through the construction area which looks dreadful. The Receptionist was efficient but not friendly. We had requested a high floor but were given a room on the 8th floor looking out on to a roof. The 8th floor is actually the bottom floor of the rooms. The room was spacious with a double bed, a setee and chairs, a large TV and a sink with units underneath. The bathroom was average size and unremarkable.
We ate in the main restaurant on our first night. It was very very cold. My husband had to go up to our room and get jumpers for us (2 for me). We have never been so cold in a restaurant before. The food was good but unremarkable for the price.
We had a swim in the pool on our first day which was nice. On our second day we were unable to use the pool as there was a wedding at the pool side. I'm sure if we had commented on this to the hotel we would have been told we could use the pool but you can hardly splash about in the middle of a wedding ceremony.
Staying at this 5* hotel was meant to be the highlight of our trip and the most expensive but it was a great disappointment. For us this was definately not worth the money and definately not a 5* hotel. We would not go back.

Just spent three nights at the Pan Pacific in a superior room. Bed was very comfortable and the view was fantastic. I only ate the buffet in the morning and appetizers at the bar, but the food was very good (and expensive).
The only downfall was the quality of some of the help and the locked accesses for the view. When I asked the concierge to help me find a restauraunt for my anniversary, he pointed me to a reasonably bad bar with mediocre food and he obviously didnt know much about the restaurant. Similarly, he seemed eager to point me towards a very expensive suspension bridge that I am sure was lovely, but I cant believe it was worth 64 dollars for the two of us to walk across. When I asked the girl manning the door about where to get a bus she pointed to the east and said somewhere over there. She also incorrectly told us we could get a water taxi to granville island from the harbor, luckily the concierge at the westin knew how to get there.

Overall, we had a fantastic time in vancouver. but these few unknowledgable folks turned our expereince into a little more forgettable one.

Probably the best location in Vancouver. Easy walking distance to Gastown; the Float Planes; Stanley Park and Downtown.

We had a couple of nights to spend in Vancouver before leaving on an Alaskan cruise, and the Pan Pacific couldn't have been more convenient. We were able to take the Airporter shuttle from the airport to the hotel, then the bellman took our bags right from our room to the cruise ship for us. No need to wait for cabs.

We got to the hotel several hours before normal check-in, and were given the option to leave our bags at the desk or upgrade for an extra $30 a night to immediate access to a room with a better view. We chose the upgrade and were glad we did. We had a view of the cruise ship terminal and harbor in one direction and the downtown city view in the other direction. The room was beautiful and spotless.

Everyone we dealt with on the staff was great - courteous, professional, and helpful.

We didn't try the restaurant since it looked a little pricey for our budget and the hotel was a bit of a splurge for us. There was plenty close by for the cost conscious though. The hotel connects through an underground tunnel to the food court across the street that had a good variety (Pita Express is a thumbs up for breakfast and lunch). It's only a short walk to Gastown or Coal Harbour and all the restaurants in those areas.

We were also able to walk to Stanley Park. The hotel looked to be convenient to other forms of public transportation, but we didn't have time to check them out.

The only downside we found to the hotel was that there wasn't free wi-fi. They charged to connect, so we didn't try it out.

Our group of 6 stayed here in July 2009 the night before we sailed on a cruise. The location is great for those cruising out of Canada Place terminal. Our crusie was from Ballentyne terminal, which was only a short cab ride away. Lots to do within walking distance, and all major tour companies stop right outside.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the bellman and treated wonderfully. The hotel was beautiful, although there is currently some construction in the lobby area, this didn't affect our stay. Our rate booked on travelocity came with contential breakfast which we didn't use. Rooms were beautiful and the views were great, and we didn't even have a harbor view room. The beds were probably the best I have ever slept on anywhere.

The real part that impressed us is when we returned from our cruise the following Saturday, we had nothing to do with our luggage (6 bags, and five carry on bags) due to a miscommunication wtih the cruise line. The Pan Pacific allowed us to store our luggage there for the entire day since our flight was late the same night, locking it securely in their view. This to me is above and beyond. At that point, we were no longer guests and they still insisted that we go enjoy Vancouver and pick up our luggage when ever we were ready for it. The concierge also arranged for our transportation back to the airport.

This was our first stay at Pan Pacific, but I am sure it will not be our last. This hotel really allowed us to relax and enjoy our vacation. Truly an exceptional hotel with outstanding service.

Received a complimentary upgrade to a room with a harbour/mountain view. After spending 14 hours on a plane and the day touring Vancouver, we were in need to a comfortable nights sleep. The beds were like sleeping on a cloud and the room was large and well appointed. Breakfast was costly, but there was a great variety to choose from. The hotel is above the Alaska cruise terminal and getting to the ship was as simple as going down in the hotel's elevator. Great place to stay if you are going on a cruise from Canada Place.
