“Good lighting in the bathroom”
Reviewed 7 October 2013

Loved the bathroom as it had excellent lighting. Party of 3 slept very comfortably on 2 double beds. We were on the 2nd floor, no view but not road noise. The complimentary water, international phone calls (land n mobile), internet, breakfast were a big plus.
The only downside is the breakfast room could be upgraded.
Would definitely stay there again, wish we did on our first day in Vancouver.

I have used Trip Advisor for years but never contributed, however after returning from Vancouver and having stayed at the St Regis Hotel for 6 glorious nights I had to post my comments

From the moment my wife and I arrived we could not fault any of the hotel staff, from front desk, bar, breakfast or cleaning staff for their willingness to make our stay enjoyable.

The location of the hotel is excellent for all locations in central Vancouver. the Sky Train is next door, shopping centre around the corner, cruise ship terminal a 10 min stroll, city tours and lots of bars and restaurants nearby.

Free international telephone calls and internet access, bottled water replenished daily and a great breakfast all included in the price.

The Bar and Grill served the most amazing "Pub Grub" and service was second to none. the breakfasts were excellent and the staff very attentive, what a way to start the day before taking a trip out to Vancouver Island or Whistler

We spent two nights at the st Regis and were pleased with our choice. We had a double room on the 5th floor with spacious bathroom, decent size room and comfortable bed, although not a great view to the city. The wifi is free and works pretty well, international long distance calls are free too (first time I have this!) and loads of tv channels although no minibar. The reception staff are very good particularly one gentleman who was very helpful with directions and recommendations. The history of the building is interesting and the location is great being so close to the waterfront, Granville st, we walked pretty much everywhere! The let down is the breakfast: slow service, odd choices (yogurt OR granola? ) and the service is quite bad and mostly unfriendly verging on rude. It almost feels like you are in a completely different hotel! Still, I would stay at the st regis again, as it offered great value for the money paid.

Room Tip: Higher floors are better so less noise from the bar on the ground floor and the street noise

The St Regis is a fantastic Hotel. The price is excellent, includes almost everything and the staff is fantastic. The rooms are clean and modern and the location is central. Its even next to a skytrain which I found handy when coming in from the airport. I found shopping and a variety of restaurants near by.

Someone posted that this is not a Starwood hotel and they are right but no Starwood Hotel would include all the free things that the St Regis does. I travel for business frequently and rarely get anything for free. Most hotels charge for internet, phone calls, breakfast and even in room water. On top of getting free in room products, they didnt cheap out on generic brands. High end soap, FIJI Water and good coffee. I would stay at hotel again and recommend that you do as well ;)

Thank you St Regis for an excellent stay!

On The positive side: Well designed, modern rooms nicely decorated, clean, comfortable, and an excellent location. Free (I hope) calls - even back to the United States, free internet (so they say) and an delicious cooked-to-order breakfast with a very generous amount of food.

On the other hand:
(1) It's not a global St. Regis: every other St. Regis in the world is a high end luxury property owned by Starwood hotels, but here in Canada, St. Regis the chain doesn't own the trademark. This hotel has nothing in common with other St. Regis properties except the name - I really wouldn't mind since the hotel itself is excellent – but as much as they say they want people to know they're independent - that's not really true - they even copy the color scheme of the global St. Regis website.
(2) We had a dispute with the staff - I received two bills for the same night indicating two different amounts were charged to my credit card. We asked for a revised bill with the incorrect charges backed out so as to be sure we'd only incur one charge. We were very rudely refused and had to alert our card issuer of the situation to avoid a double charge. Unfortunately since it's not a global St. Regis we have no recourse if we are charged twice. Beware if you stay here: pre-pay or pay in cash only!

Thank-you for taking the time to share your experiences with us. We certainly apologize for the confusion surrounding the double billing. We have passed these details along to our staff to try to be sure that it won’t happen again with other guests.

To be honest, we’re at a loss to know how guests continue to think that we’re part of the Starwood St. Regis corporate chain.

•We announce that we’re “independent, Canadian-owned” in the second line on our home page.
•We have a completely different logo and website colour scheme (olive/sand/taupe) not (black/gold/white).
•There is no mention of Starwood or other St. Regis Hotels anywhere on our site or of us on their site.

We have proudly been Vancouver’s St. Regis Hotel for over a century and look forward to being so for a long, long time to come!

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any further comments or questions regarding your stay.

Even our Canadian friends hadn't heard of the St Regis, but we were extremely impressed. OK, it's doesn't have a harbour view, but this small-ish hotel has everything else we needed. Smart, clean rooms with very comfortable beds, very friendly, helpful staff and good facilities, including a small IT centre on the ground floor with instant internet access. Oh, and breakfast is included in the room price, which isn't always the case with Canadian hotels. The hotel's biggest plus is that ALL international calls, including to mobile phones, are completely free! -- a first in my experience. The only downside was the slightly dingy, breakfast dining room in the basement -- and a hotel claiming to be thinking about the environment shouldn't be importing its complementary bottled water from Fiji (is there really no spring water in Canada?). These small quibbles aside, for those who want a good, well-run hotel which won't cost mega-bucks in central Vancouver, this is a great find.

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the 4th or 5th floor -- and on the corner of the building, which gives you win...

Thank you for choosing to stay with the St. Regis and thank you for passing along your feedback regarding our hotel. We’re very pleased that you enjoyed our free Worldwide long distance so much and were able to take advantage of it!

While our breakfast room is in the basement of our 100-year old hotel, we’re surprised that you found it “dingy”. When we renovated it, we did so in the same heritage, wood-beam style as the connecting Bar & Grill. We assure you, it’s cleaned and maintained to the same high standards as the rest of the hotel.

We have debated the bottled water issue amongst ourselves many times. Vancouver has some of the best tap water in the world but there are times when the convenience of bottled water is unbeatable for travellers. We thought that, if we were going to offer bottled water, we wanted it to be the very best we could find—and that was FIJI Water, naturally alkaline, great-tasting water.

Thanks again for staying with us. We hope you enjoyed our wonderful city!

What a pleasant surprise! This smaller less expensive Vancouver hotel was a gem. The rooms were spacious, clean, modern and had everything a more expensive hotel would offer. The location was terrific with trains and buses close by. It was well within walking distance to the waterfront and Robson St. What set this hotel apart from others we had stayed in during our visits to Vancouver between tours, is the friendly and helpful front desk staff. They could not have done more to make our stay perfect. The only negative aspect was the breakfast. The hotel provided a good selection but the quality of the fresh fruit and fruit juice could use some improvement. the hotel did not have a pool or a guy, however full use of a nearby gym was offered.

Room Tip: Smaller hotels are quieter.
