Superb location next to English Bay - for watching the sunset - and Stanley Park, with easy access to bus network. Easy to explore on foot from the hotel and for renting a bike to explore Vancouver like a local – on two wheels. Good value for money.

Public Transport:
+ Information on the hotel website for getting to the hotel from the airport by public transportation but a missed opportunity for providing more information about getting to the hotel from other key locations by public transport (train and bus, station, cruise and ferry terminals, seaplane terminal) and for accessing the excellent public transportation network generally

Zero Waste:
+ Recycling and composting collection bins in room
- Disposable plastic toiletries containers rather than the bulk dispensers you find in many eco-conscious Nordic hotels
- Disposable coffee cups wrapped in excess plastic in room
- Was not provided the option to receive bill via email rather than getting another piece of paper to throw away

Energy:
- Window’s did not appear to be well insulated for the climate
- No apparent on-site generation through solar or thermal hot water

Recycled and Local Products:
+ Recycled paper products in the room

Environmental Information:
- No information in room or on website regarding environmental, initiatives, performance / CO2 emissions and targets

CO2 Offset:
- No option to offset CO2 emissions from stay

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay with us at the Best Western PLUS Sands. I apologize that no choice was given to you whether you could receive the bill electronically or not. As part of the Zero - Waste program we do send bills via emails.

a good place to be close of the stanley park and avoid the noisy down town. The rooms does not have a great view but if you are not looking for a luxury hotel , it s a nice place. The restaurant offers a special under 10$ for the breakfast, internet free,

I've been staying at this hotel for about 17-18 years, 4-5 times a year, & has really become a home away from home, so it's time for a review.

This is an older hotel, but with that comes a certain charm. Couple that with a great staff (many of whom have been working here long before I found the Sands - that should tell you something!) that really do go out of their way to accommodate you, the well appointed rooms that are immaculately kept, the latest big flatscreen TV's, the in room coffee makers (with really good coffee), and you'll see why it's my favourite.

If you book an even numbered room on the 5th floor, you get a quaint little balcony with a pretty decent view of English Bay - complete with the freighters at anchor in the harbour.

It's location is unbeatable. Literally across the street from English Bay, next to Stanley Park & right on the seawall paths, & if you walk a block or two up either Denman or Davie Streets & I bet there's 30 different little local restaurants with all different ethnic menus. Close enough to the downtown area that it's easy to walk to, yet is not really part of the concrete jungle of downtown.

There's an attached restaurant/pub that has great food, (their seafood chowder is as good as it gets) & it has a neat pub atmosphere in the evenings, with tons of beers on tap.

Can't decide on a Tim Horton's coffee or a Starbucks? No matter they're both across the street! Feel like a watching the sunset on the beach? It's a 2 minute walk, & make sure you try the best darn hotdog ever from Mike with the hotdog stand at the beach - it'll set you back all of $3.00!

Though I could stay at my pick of hotels when on business, I find myself going out of my way a bit to stay at the Sands & usually add on a day or two.

If your expecting everything to be all gleaming glass & sterile the Sands is not for you, however if your OK with the hotel having a little age, but being treated as a valued guest in a surprisingly comfortable, extremely well run & somewhat charming older (yet modern) hotel with a fabulous location, then this is a great place to spend a few days at. You'll also find it quite affordable!

Room Tip: Wanting a view of the Bay? Book even numbered rooms - the 5th floor has the balconies - they'll have a little street noise however. Odd numbered rooms are facing away from the street, have no view, but are a bit quieter.

My stay at the Best Western Sands was average. For the price it did the trick... a good place to stay for a reasonable, clean room, though the noise from Davie kept me awake on and off... maybe requesting a room on the back side of the building would have made a difference.

Depending on the guest Davie street can be quite noisy at any time of the day. If there is a next time you stay with us try our backside of the hotel it is significantly quieter. Thank you for the review.

Less than a block away from English Bay Beach and right on the trolley line, surrounded by restaurants of all kinds in the West End, the great location really elevates this just-ok hotel. Close to Stanley Park, too. Rooms are adequate, but small and dated. Staff was very cordial. Off-street parking provided, at a fee. Wonderful location for the price.
