This hotel is located about a 15 minutes drive from downtown Vancouver. It is located on the very busy Kingsway Street. This hotel fits in the class of a Motel 6. The lobby was quite small, staffed by only one person. My room was adequate, with a queen size bed. No smoking, and there was no smoke smell. I had a view of the city/mountains, although somewhat obstructed by the surrounding residential neighborhood. All appliances/TV worked properly, etc. My one big complaint is that you have to pay for the WiFi; I think it was $5/hour, which is completely unacceptable as most hotels offer it free. Also, my bathroom sink drained pretty slowly and I was a bit nervous that it might be clogged. Needless to say, I didn't have to call maintenance. The upside to this hotel is that it was a close drive to everything and relatively inexpensive. I felt safe there. It was quiet. Would I stay there again? If I was in a bind, yes; but otherwise, probably not.

Thanks for the review. We're considering changing the policy for charging for internet access. Currently the charge for wireless is $3.50 hour and very easy to set up and get connected fast.

There have been many improvements since your stay in 2006, however the mountain view is still spectacular. You took a great picture of the sunset from the room. Rooms facing the north have a view of the mountains especially on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

Apparently Vancouver has different standards than the rest of the world. The Cassandra Hotel reeked of smoke the moment I walked in and the rooms were no different. I booked this on Hotels[--] and couldn't get out quick enough and still got charged for the 3 nights I didn't stay there. Great all around experience. So if there ever was a scam this is it.

The Cassandra Hotel is part of The Canada Select program. Canadian standards are among the highest in the hotel industry. Three and a half star properties offer above average facilities and services. Smoking is only allowed in a designated smoking room, and not in the lobbies or non smoking rooms. There is no possibility of being charged for 3 nights, since our maximum charge would be 1 night plus taxes. Guests can avoid this charge altogether, by notifying a cancellation 1 day prior to checkout before 2 pm. A ring to the Front Desk when you have a concern, and we're there to get it sorted ASAP.

They hotel lobby didn't smell all that good. I thought people were smoking in there. The room wasn't too bad but the carpet was filthy and the halls smelled of smokers too.

They had a laundry facility that worked well but the trash was overflowing and all over the floor and the price for washing and drying was $2.50 each.

The room was not inexpensive, $115 and they charged $5 a day for Wifi connections.

I would not stay there again.

With many thanks to our health conscious Canadian government - smoking is not allowed in any buildings, except in designated smoking rooms only. Hurray! Guests are not allowed to smoke in the lobby. The Cassandra Hotel lobby is non smoking with an LCD TV and a large pot of coffee (might be the smell) and information on local attractions. Yes, the rooms are much larger for the price than similar hotels found in downtown Vancouver. Your WIFI security matters and the Cassandra's WIFI is fast, secure and reliable for $6 day. Instead of the $25 - $30 daily charge at other hotels.
