“Great Find in Downtown Vancouver”
Reviewed 9 June 2014

A wonderful little jewel of a hotel in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Hip and cool with very comfortable rooms and an exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Its small but, big hearted with a magical inner garden and private doors to each suite. Beds are profoundly comfortable and the amenities in the room are exactly what you need - from the free bottled water to the single brew coffee maker.
There is also a great little cafe/bar attached to the lobby for snacks, light meals or a cold beer.
The only thing missing is a shoe polishing machine for the lobby.
Great find.
I have stayed in the hotel about 8 times over a period of two years and have never been disappointed.

Was not what I expected. The website is very misleading. We barely seen a single person there during our stay. Whats with all the sexual connotations. why isn't there a bar and a proper comfortable restaurant?

I stayed here for the first time on a night out with a friend. I wasn't sure what to expect because the outside was rather blah. The rooms were great though. Very chic! They definitely put some thought into their renos, wanting to bring a smaller hotel up to a higher level. The bathrooms aren't much but they are very clean, which is really important to me. There was a nice courtyard (each room is entered from an outside - Melrose Place style). The staff was great and there's a nice cafe downstairs where a DJ plays on the weekend. We came in a bigger SUV so parking was tough. They have two levels but only small vehicles can go on the lower level. We ended up parking just down the block and it's actually less than parking at the hotel so it worked out. Good location, but you can hear the sirens from the hospital across the street.

In Vancouver for a conference:

1. My promotional materials sent to the hotel in advance and was properly secured, handled, and cared for (and helpful to load into the car)
2. Staff was prompt, attentive, polite, positive, accommodating.... (not overbearing)
3. I traveled by myself so I needed efficiency and convenience and my expectations were met and appreciated the extra value when it wasn't expected

Rooms were clean. Beds were comfortable. A hotel to enjoy the city... short distance to Granville Island and the beaches. A place to sleep, enjoy the city, come back for an afternoon nap, refresh and get back out there.

I was on the second floor facing Burrard... was a little noisy with the traffic at night but I noticed the window was cracked open after leaving which was the culprit.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing Burrard.

Loved our quiet, clean room on the inside courtyard. Staff we're friendly and helpful. Room was basic but very comfy with good beds. Very good value! Great location for Vancouver walking.
Tip: if driving, pull in to "loading zone" in front of main entrance and park temporarily until staff can open back parking gate in lane way.

Sure, all of the rooms are very chic, and yes, the location is fantastic. But I left feeling like it was just a place to stay, not an experience. Unless you're used to firm beds and city lights and sounds, don't expect to get a great night's sleep. Unless you like dead stares from the guys at the counter when you enter and leave, or you are enamored when the cleaning staff comes in when you have the privacy please sign on the door, don't expect great service either. You could easily spend half the money at the Days Inn by the airport and take the train in and have the same experience, so....

I stayed here for one night, mainly drawn by the relatively affordable price point, convenient location and how it looked quite modern and hip. A long time loyal fan of the Ace hotel chains, I expected something similar. The motor inn has been updated and remodeled with quirky little signs and funky posters - but beyond that, there wasn't much to offer.

Our room faced the main street and there was a bit of street noise but we weren't bothered. We know it's hard to ask for a perfectly quiet room staying in the city. We checked in on May 29th. For anyone from out of town and not familiar with the PNW region, the weather is still fairly unpredictable during this time of the year. On the evening we checked in, it was just barely 55 degrees Fahrenheit (13 degrees Celsius) outside. The windows had been left open in the room so it was colder inside than outside. We tried to adjust the thermostat to crank up the heat to warm up, but it didn't seem to be working. So we went downstairs to ask if maybe we were doing it wrong, or if the heat in the room wasn't working.

"We've turned off the heat for the season."

We were stunned. Actually, we thought the front desk clerk was joking with us and laughed. He continued to look back at us with a straight face and then offered:

"I can give you an extra blanket if you'd like."

Fine. The motor inn is an older building and runs on some ancient heating system. I understand. Then invest in some portable space heaters for the room.

We understand that the front desk clerk couldn't do anything more. He wasn't a manager and couldn't authorize any sort of refund of any sort. He told us to go out and get dinner and that he was going to be on the phone with a manager and would have a response for us when we got back. We came back a few hours later to a different front desk clerk. He told us that the manager had authorized a 10% discount. At this point, it was just patronizing. This second front desk agent was very friendly and understanding and told us that the manager would be in at 9 in the morning and that we could speak with them in person.

We originally wanted to check out early because we were trying to catch an early ferry, but we were so frustrated with the heating situation and all we decided to check out at 9 so that we could speak with them and just catch a later ferry. at 9:15 am, we go downstairs to the front desk.

"Hi, we'd like to speak with the manager"
"They're not here right now"
"When will they be here?"
"They're in a meeting and won't be in until the afternoon"

We couldn't waste any more of the day and just decided to check out. As the bill comes, there is no 10% discount. When we brought it up, the front desk clerk tells us that he has no idea what we're talking about. He says that every conversation we had with the prior two clerks had been documented but there was no mention of a discount. I could care less about saving $16 but it's how we were handed over from agent to agent and being told different things that was the most frustrating.

It's an old building, I get it. The front desk clerks don't have managerial authority, I get it. But I have never been treated like this by any service industry before. I will never go back to this hotel and I will never recommend this to anyone. If you're looking for a place to stay in Vancouver, there's a Sheraton next door or even a youth hostel down the street where I'm sure they at last have heat.
