“Stylish and funky on paper, but a little lacking”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

Beautiful funky photography and a sense of humour make the Burrard seem amazing. A little too amazing perhaps? So when I needed to ask reception for a blanket because the room was cold, or spotted the fire map on the back of the door was wrong, or found out that I couldn't charge the purchases in the cafe to my room, you realise it's just a hotel. A motel in fact. A quiet, pleasant, functional motel. But not quite the stylish glamour hotspot its promo designer people would have you believe.

From the moment we arrived (warmly welcomed by the front desk as well as a Labradoodle in the Lobby!) we received the BEST service. Room was modest, but had what a modern traveler would want - Nespresso machines in the room, bottled water, mini fridge, complimentary wifi and complimentary bike rental. The retro feel to the property is fun and the landscaping in the courtyard is a beautiful setting for relaxing. The hotel also had a lovely cafe, where we enjoyed the most delicious muffins and lemon loaf as well as fresh pressed juice. We highly recommend The Burrard for a unique hotel experience in Vancouver!

My experience must be a rare exception for this very highly recommended hotel on Hotwire.
After stepping into the shower, I noticed bright pink mildew, thick along the doorframe. I also noticed an eyelash (not my own) on the shower wall. Since I already had shampoo in my hair, I finished my shower despite the mildew. After my (not very relaxing) shower, I opened the window for ventilation, and found a hand print, nose print, and SNEEZE print, crusted on the window! I called the front desk, and they offered a new room. The new room was spotlessly clean. The bed was plenty comfortable.
However, beware: the curtains are ornamental only. They do not pull shut across the translucent drapes. Inside the hotel room, with the bedside lamp on, I could see through the drapes into the rooms of the building across the street, quite clearly. This hotel is suitable for romance only if your tastes are either somewhat exhibitionist, or lights off! The bathroom counter is only a tiny ledge above the toilet, quite awkward for 2 people brushing their teeth, or for styling your hair. The following morning, around 9 am, my husband tried to run a bath, and ran out of hot water. He waited 20 minutes for enough hot water to have a bath. This can happen anywhere if too many people are running the hot water at the same time, so perhaps we had a run of bad luck. Is this a rare problem at this hotel?
On a positive note, the hotel is indeed bright and modern, with a cheeky, racey, youthful humour styling the hotel, for unique personality. The hotel's location was very convenient. The free wifi was high-speed, so we were able to watch a movie on our smartphone. Also, the hotel courtyard looked very lush, tropical, inviting, and I probably would enjoyed it if I had had more time.

I had a great experience at The Burrard. The hotel is charming and original. The rooms were really comfortable and everything worked well and easily. The hotel style is unique and the service was really professional and friendly. The garden is really inviting! Loved everything and hope to go back!

Centrally located on Burrard St., close to busses & Yaletown. Friendly, helpful staff on check in. Nice size room with all the necessary fixtures & fittings. Free 'phone call from the room to anywhere in the USA & Canada. Nice little courtyard area, useful for a drink or snacks when you've been out for the day.
The Vancouver Trolley Tour bus stop is 100 yards (right) up the road.
No restaurant but there is friendly bar / cafe attached to the hotel.
For breakfast, turn left out of the hotel and then right on Davie Street and you'll find Joe's Grill a short walk up on the right (excellent). There's also a couple of nice places by turning left on Davie Street.
Canada Place is a 20 minute walk turning right out of the front door..
A great place for dinner is Stephos (Greek), again turn right up Davie street and it's 5-600 yards up on the left. Great food, great atmosphere, LARGE portions and you might well have to queue for a table.
If we should go back to Vancouver, we'd certainly have no problem with staying here again.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking Burrard Street might be bit noisy!

Not the best hotel ever or the room with most space but these guys made us smile every day.
Location is good close to beach, restaurants and shops. There are free bikes and coffee. Beds are good. Rooms are not very big but good enough.
The concept is excellent: welcome mailing, signs in the hotel tell humor an dmake tou smile (at least us).

This was an excellent choice to stay at since I had a procedure scheduled at St. paul's Hospital very early the next morning. I appreciated being able to park our car in the hotel parkade and just walk over to the hospital the next morning.
