“Great location, friendly staff”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

The hotel is in the perfect location for exploring Downtown Vancouver. It's also a 5-10 minute walk from the trendy Gastown area and a 5 minute cab ride to English Bay. The staff could not have been more helpful; upon check-in the receptionist recommended a great seafood restaurant in English Bay and booked us a table. The breakfast was both delicious and plentiful also. I gave 3/5 for cleanliness only because a couple of bits of rubbish (trash) were dropped in the corridor when we came back from dinner and we're still there the next morning when we went down for breakfast. Only other minor complaint was that the wifi made you log in almost every time you turned your phone/iPad on, but other than that it was reliable and quite fast. Overall a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the fourth floor to lessen the traffic noise, & the noise from the bar downsta...

Located three blocks from the airport train, and less than a mile from the Convention Center and Granville Island, it is a couple of blocks from the heart of the shopping district and a couple blocks from an upscale neighborhood. it is the ideal place to stay for those who prefer a small boutique hotel to large international chains or for someone attending a convention who does not want a roommate to cover the cost of the convention hotels.. Rooms are basic but clean and functional. While it has no fitness room, it is a great place for people who want to walk or jog. I decided not to bring my computer and I was the only one using their business center. I was very glad that I decided to stay at the Moda. However, it if were winter when it is cold and gets dark early, as a woman who lives in a warm climate travelling on her ownm I may have been less enthusiastic about the location - not the hotel.

Room Tip: I had a back corner room and it was quiet, light and airy.

This would have been a perfect hotel, right in the center of the city, cheap-ish parking, hip lobby and clean/comfortable rooms. However the lovely bar downstairs turned into a bumping night club at about 8:00pm. I love a good tune and have been known to even rip up the dance floor now and then but sadly not this night. Instead we heard every lyric of every song through our hotel floor, it was like we had a VIP table. I'm used to sleeping in noisy areas but this was unbelievable. I was up all night. It was outrageous how loud it was. Request a room on a high floor or don't stay here

Room Tip: Request a room on a high floor or don't stay here. The club on the first floor will keep you up...

Fabulous location and great rate ($143/night) for downtown Vancouver! The hotel is above a liquor store and bar but we were not affected by any consumer noise or traffic. Parking ($14.00/day – cheap!) is the next block on the 5th floor in a secure/gated area. We parked and left the car there as we could walk everywhere. The elevator was painfully slow. Front desk service exceptional. The rooms are OK, basically, they took an old hotel and cleaned it up. Everything a bit tired, but they used modern colours and some fixtures to spruce it up. Have to say though that is was very clean and the beds comfortable. Windows had black out shades which was also good. Don’t stay here if you want luxury, but if you need a clean place to hang for a couple of days and be central, then go for it!

It might be tidy vthough the pics look better than reality it is old) and in a good location, but never again. Issues with the air conditioning seemed to fall on deaf ears. They said they'd fix it than nothing was done or said.. and this meant some nights it was impossible to get to sleep.. Opened the windows and they were almost falling off the hinges. Ehh. Needs a bit of work. Kinda would be nice to have got an apology for the air con thing or just some acknowledgment from the staff (not that we were the only ones- the whole hotel had the same issue and the building seems to heat up by the hour).

This hotel is a great value for the location. It is 100 years old and has some quirks because of it's age, but is clean, quiet & safe. We have stayed there twice and would not hesitate to stay there again.

A ten minute walk from the train station and conveniently situated near main shopping areas, places to eat and museums. Clean rooms, comfy beds and friendly staff. A good location if you want to be a short walk away from all downtown has to offer. Just be warned, there is only one lift in the building (it's an old building) so use the lift to go up and the stairs to go down - not much to complain about, but if you have mobility problems, it's something you might want to consider.

Room Tip: If there are two of you, make sure the room has a Queen bed. We found the double bed to be too small...
