“A little nickle and dimed”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

Great hotel, awesome location and very clean. However I felt nickle and dimed when I was charged for a local call.

Our fridge in the room also had a buzz. Not sure I would rush back based on over-all cost to satisfaction ratio!

We booked this hotel on Hotwire, and got a super-good deal. We thought it was too good to be true. The property is well-situated and was within walking distance of our crusie ship. It is also near Gastown, which we understand is a very quaint old section of Vancouver. (We got in too late to see anything much.) The lobby and public areas of the hotel are very nice, especially the cafe.
But the room... oh my GOD... it actually had a broken windown that was fixed with some sort of tape that was not holding too well. There was some sort of equipment in the corner of the room ... I think it was an extra space heater, that had a foil-covered hose snaking across the floor to a hole in the window and was secured with tape. The decor in the room was absolutely hideous. I can't even say it was "dated"... it would have been hideous at anytime in the history of western civilization. So... why did we stay? We had been traveling for about 12 hours and were exhausted. And, we were leaving very early the next morning to go on a cruise. I will say that, at least, the hotel was clean and we did not pay a lot for it. So, I would not recommend it unless you check to see if there are renovated rooms available.

Green Features: I don't know. We weren't there long enough.

We have just returned from our first trip to the west coast of Canada and the US. We were joining a Trafalgar tour that commenced with 2 nights in Vancouver, staying at the Renaissance hotel. Because we were arriving the day before the tour commenced, we booked the additional 3rd night there to avoid the inconvenience of having to change hotels. Although the room was of a reasonable size and very clean, we quickly discovered that despite having a room many storeys above the main road, the room was incredibly noisy because there was no double glazing to the large windows. Being a major road in Downtown Vancouver, the traffic noise was constant, day and night. The noise problem was further exacerbated by the lack of sound insulation from the adjoining room (we suspect the gaps around the doors that could be used to link the 2 rooms was the problem). The first 2 nights there, the phone in the adjoining room was literally ringing every 5 to 10 minutes for at least 4 to 6 hours. When the guests finally returned to their room late at night, and answered the damned phone, it was as though they were in our room - their voices were so loud and clear. We could also hear every sniffle, murmur, fart, snore, etc. (and we realised they would also hear ours). To make sleep even more difficult, the mattress was soft and didn't offer any support. We were disappointed at the small bathroom. Having had lunch on the terrace on the opposite side of the hotel, that side facing the waterfront, we realised that rooms on that side of the hotel would probably have far less noise than those facing the main road. If you have to stay at this hotel and have difficulty sleeping, ask for a room away from the main road.

I stayed here with a friend of mine for the Seawheeze run and loved it. The hotel itself is similar in terms of service and quality with the Marriott across the street. We got a room facing the harbour with a small balcony. The room is standard, and the bed is a bit on the soft side, but otherwise the room is quiet and comfortable.

The gym is quite spacious, and that's a huge plus for me. For those of you who have lounge access, this one has a decent lounge with a small balcony.

Location wise, it is a about five minute walk to the main street area, so food is always available. There are lots of nice coffee shops around the area as well. More importantly, you can just go out and run to Stanley Park anytime you desire.

I booked this hotel through Priceline at a good rate. The staff was great our entire stay. We upgraded to a club level harbour side room on the 17th floor for an extra $30 per night. We do participate the Marriott Rewards program. The room was a little bigger on this floor, clean and comfortable with a nice harbor view. It was worth the upgrade, and even internet service was included.

Many things were close by including the restaurants on the harbour. We walked to Spokes Rental Bikes and this is a great way to see the city. We rode all over Stanley Park and Downtown. We did not use the gym but it was good size and had lots of choices.

Hotel is well located and rooms very clean however we had a couple of concerns, one was that it was noisy in the room, our room faced the front street and was on the 14th floor. Also the bed was too soft for us, this might suit other people
