There was nothing we did not like about this hotel. The staff were amazingly friendly and provided a neighbourly feel to the hotel. Location was excellent. It lay slightly outside the busier downtown core in a more residential neighbourhood, we could walk five minutes to the beach and the sea wall that runs around Vancouver, five minutes to grocery and drugstore, 15 minutes to the Art Gallery and downtown shopping, 25 minutes to Vancouver harbour and the ferry to North Vancouver and the bus to Grouse mountain. There were also innumerable local coffee shops and excellent small ethnic restaurants within a 10 minute walking radius, and a large public market with salmon, salmon, salmon a short walk and ferry ride away. Complimentary breakfast provided us with our energy for the day. Complimentary newspaper [Globe and Mail] got our brains working early!

Room Tip: book early and out of season for good rates

I looked for months to find a hotel that would fit my needs, and in the end the Sunset Inn was the PERFECT place. It is not in the usual cluster of hotels you will find down town, but it is 5 mins from everything you would need. 5 mins from English Bay, around the corner from plenty of shops and restaurants on Davie Street, even a 24 hr Denny’s right next door. There are plenty of transit options and also there is a stop for the Hop-On-Hop-Off tour right at the corner.

The service at the hotel was above and beyond what I would expect. Michael at the Front desk always had great advice on things to do, places to see, and the best way to get there. The rooms are spacious and nicely renovated. What you see in the photos is what you get. The Kitchens were fully equipped and well stocked what everything you would need (minus the actual food). The beds were very comfortable and made coming home something to look forward to.

Note that Sunset offers a continental breakfast. It is nothing luxurious but you get juices, cereal, bagels, coffee and fruit. It is enough to start your day.

I really can’t say enough about this place, accept that when I am back in Vancouver.... and I will be back, This is where I will stay.

Room Tip: The earlier you book, the better the rate.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in a studio suite, and were more than impressed by what we got for what we paid for. We had stayed in a number of hotels on our holiday, and were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The suite was a great size, the bed more than comfortable, and in a great location to access everything we wanted to see.

Probably the only notes were the fridge and oven in our suite was a little dated, but as we didn't use either in the end it didn't bother us (the food choices in Vancouver were too good to pass up!) And the placement of the breakfast bar was a little in the way - if you happen to go downstairs for food the same time as everyone else, it gets very crowded, and it's hard to make your way around.

Other than that, we had a terrific stay, and would recommend to anyone travelling to Vancouver to stay here. If we ever make it back to Canada, we definitely will!

Stayed here for 8 days and was very pleased with our accommodation. Had a one bedroom apartment which was well equipped, very spacious and comfortable. Staff were friendly, approachable, helpful and very happy to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for their city. Thoroughly recommended.

We stayed at the Sunset for 9 days. Fabulous location, easy walk to the ferry to Granville Island, Seawall walk , fairly easy walk to Stanley Park, downtown, whatever you need. Any kind of food you might want is within easy walk. The rooms are clean and well appointed. As previously reviewed, continental breakfast is sparse but reliable and you can easily supplement from local markets as you have a full kitchen. Staff is wonderful, friendly and helpful. The only complaint - unless you are there for the nightlife and are out until the late hours, if you have a room facing the back alley and therefore busy Davie St - you will be up until the wee hours hearing screaming and yelling until the bars close. And then in the early AM, dumpster crashing and delivery trucks as there are at least 4 restaurants in the immediate vicinity whose trash is all in the alley under your window! Bring your earplugs or be smart enough to ask for a room facing Burnaby St.. The noise factor disturbed each night's sleep, damaging what would have been the perfect holiday. We would say there again, but only in a room facing quiet Burnaby St.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing Burnaby St.

Although this place could do with a bit of updating, it's an excellent base with friendly helpful staff. Fantastic location if you want to get out and about.

Visited Vancouver attending a conference Took my entire family including adult daughters. The hotel (a former apartment building) was quite nice, spacious suites, and located in an ecclectic, walking neighborhood of the city. Could use a bit more space for the continental breakfast area. Overall, a positive and interesting experience.
