“Great place to stay for Pride Weekend!”
Reviewed 7 August 2012

My partner and I stayed at Sunset Inn for pride weekend and had the best time ever! The staff were great and helped us to find new places to visit and try while we were there! The Sunset is perfect walking distance to all parties and events both related to Pride and those that were not.
We had such a great time, that we booked for next year's Pride weekend and can't wait to return again!!!!

Room Tip: Go with any of the executive suites, they are on the higher floors with better views. The suites are...

Great service, very clean, room felt like I was at home! Parking was good too! Jelly beans in the lobby were great. Lol. The suite we were upgraded too was quite nice. With a separate kitchen, bath, livening room, patio overlooking Davies, close to good restaurants and shopping.

Great location in a dynamic part of Vancouver and the hotel staff is fantastically accommodating. The room exceeded our expectations. The cleaning staff was very willing to work around our teenage sons' sleeping schedule.

The Sunset Inn is conveniently located adjacent to Davie Street and a short walk either to the centre of Vancouver or to Stanley Beach. For these reasons it is a good choice. The parking here is limited and whilst checking in it is best to take advantage of the loading zone at the front. The free parking at the back is accessed via an alley and is a bit of a squeeze in a full-sized car, though we managed it okay. Space is limited here and it is a little awkward getting luggage through the foyer and into the small elevators. The rooms are adequate but in our case the advertised twin beds were an unwelcome surprise. They are basically single beds and there is no way two adults could share one, despite what the reception claimed. Our kids slept in these in the bedroom leaving us to sleep on the double sofa bed in the living room. The only problem with this was that there are no curtains on the living room windows so the sun streamed into the room from around 5am at the height of summer. Another small downside is the noise heard from adjacent rooms and the hallway. The free breakfast was okay but the serving area is very cramped so the best option is to take a tray and carry food back to your room. The reception staff are friendly and try to be helpful though at times they seem a little preoccupied with other matters. Probably the most annoying aspect of our stay was the housekeeping service. First impressions were not helped by the cleaning staff arriving on our first day to clean the room after we checked in. To prove this was not an isolated occcurrence the next day the room was not cleaned until 5pm. It's the little things like this that over time add up and leave plenty of room for improvement at this establishment.

Dear Coffs Family
So sorry you did not enjoy your stay with the Sunset Inn & Suites. We do have a few rooms with 2 twin size beds within the bedroom, instead of 1 king, which twin size beds are half the size of a king size bed, (Twin--39 x 75 inches (or 99 x 190 cm) and yes, very hard for 2 people to sleep in this bed. And for this misunderstanding we do apologize. Usually when we get these bookings, we assume they are aware of size of 2 separate beds. Or we could have put it together to make 1 king size bed if needed.
Upon arrival, the front desk should have told you about the breakfast and also about daily maid service, and let you know about the welcome letter that was put on your bed upon arrival that also explains these items and more. For example:
Daily Maid Service: During the morning and early afternoon, our housekeepers attend to cleaning newly vacant rooms to ensure that these are ready for customers who arrive by our check-in time of 4pm.
We customarily clean rooms for guests who are in-house or staying with us for more than one night after this time. We are, however, dedicated to doing everything we can to serve your needs.
If you would prefer to have your room cleaned earlier in the day, or by a specific time, just call the front desk and our housekeeping staff will work to accommodate you, or place make up room sign on door.
Complimentary Continental Breakfast is served in the lobby from 7 to 10am each morning. Trays are available for you to take breakfast back to your suite. If you are having coffee or cereal, we would be grateful if you would bring down bowls and cups from the kitchen in your suite. This helps us to do our part to preserve the environment by reducing the use of paper products.
Just a reminder,
ALL ROOMS HAVE BLACK OUT BLINDS ON ALL WINDOWS – THEY ARE BEHIND THE SHEERS

And by the sound of your review, we dropped the ball on explaining this to you at check in and didn’t help to rectify all these problems during your stay and for this we are sorry.
This is usually not the way we want our guests to remember their stay with us, and hope if you are ever back in Vancouver, you will let us prove this was an isolated incident and should not happen next time

General Manager

The Sunset Inn is an excellent place for exploring Vancouver or to use as a starting or ending point when taking a cruise. The property is very well located for exploring the city. The front desk is extremely helpful. The continental breakfast is dismal at best. A short walk away is Joe's Grill at 1031 Davie Street. Joe's seems like a real neighborhood place with lots of locals. They serve very good breakfast items at normal prices..

Room Tip: Choose a room facing Burnaby Street as the front of the hotel is much quieter than those facing the...

It is located in a residential area next to one of the commercial streets in Vancouver and about 10 min. on foot to more central parts of downtown.

Shopping is available nearby including small supermarkets etc.

Apartment is ok with kitchen, living room etc. there is also a [small] balcony. The back side faces an ally, which while probably not unsafe, is an unpleasant place.

Getting a room that is facing the front is recommended.

You will probably need to check in before unloading as parking in front of the hotel is very limited and time limited.

Parking while staying is complimentary and located on the ally side of the building. A full size car (Ford Impala) will have difficulty navigating here, especially in the small parking basement and the even smaller ramp to it.

Breakfast is complimentary, very basic (cereals, bread, coffee) and a logistical mess. It is a person sized area next to the elevators and directly in the single hallway leading to them. You pick it up and go to the room with it. “traffic jams” are a mandatory morning event.

Basically it is a place you choose for the apartment and complimentary extras, while abstracting from primitive state they are in, as they tend to work.

Staff is friendly and helpful but also a bit distracted at times.

Recommended if the basics do not disturb you and you like apartments.

Room Tip: Getting a room that is facing the front and not the alley is recommended.

My partner and I just got home from BC. For the second time in a few years, we stayed at Sunset. For an all suite hotel within walking distance of everything in the city, you can't beat the value. Only a couple of blocks from the beach, Stanley park, the Granville ferries and Robson street, it's out of the "mainstream" of activity. We wouldn't call the standard suites luxurious, but for a place to crash, the beds are comfy and you have a full clean kitchen, living space and a small balcony. The staff are friendly and helpful and always willing to point you in the right direction.
