“Excellent Stay.....as usual.”

I think this hotel is the best bang for your buck. We have stayed at this hotel numerous times and they have not failed on any parts. It is a very nice quaint hotel, lots of room space, nice kitchen/living room space and very quiet. We love the come and go as you please type of atmosphere that the hotel brings. There is not that "stark" hurry up and leave so we can clean up feeling. The staff has always been very nice and friendly and if we request extra towels, they are happy to ablige.

Room Tip: If you are traelling with more than one person, request the rooms ending with 05 (ex. 405, 505.1105...

We stayed in the Executive large one bedroom suite for 2nights, Aug 17th to 19th, 2012. The hotel itself is an unassuming apartment complex. The suite was spacious and easily accomodated the 4adults and 2children in our group. The front desk was courteous and helpful. The hotel is conveniently located close to Stanley park and other downtown attractions. Parking is free but very small but that's downtown Vancouver I guess.

We stayed at the Sunset Inn & Suites for 6 nights. The reception area of the hotel was unimpressive, small and functional is probably the best description. The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful.
The pluses: The room (one bed suite) was a good size, with a king bed in the separate bedroom and a sofa bed, small table & chairs in the living area. There was a fully equipped but small kitchen (probably over the top for what we needed). The shower was powerful. Complimentary breakfast items were available each morning to take up to your room, e.g. bread, croissants, cereal, fruit. Internet access was free.
The minuses: The bathroom was tiny...could not get a cat in there never mind swing it. The carpet in the bedroom had seen better days. The coat hangers in the closets kept falling apart and were a constant cause of frustration (I'm not kidding!)
Location: Around the corner from Davie Street which had a variety of shops and restaurants. Not the best end of town but not the worst either. Walkable (about 30 mins) to English Bay & Stanley Park, same distance from Gastown etc.
Bottom line: it was OK for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teenagers), but it was a bit basic.

Just spent 4 days here. What a nice find! Very clean, very well organized. Guys at front desk are very helpful planning your day. Great location to walk around town. Great wifi in our room Everything just works here. This is a place that really appreciates your business. We will be back! And a comfortable bed too.

Found this hotel on TripAdvisor and initially had my doubts but I checked the reviews and was reassured by what other reviewers were saying. It feels less like a hotel and more like a furnished apartment. The folks at the front desk have movies and DVD players you can borrow and return daily - they lend you umbrellas for that ever-present Vancouver rain, and they provide a nice little continental breakfast cart every morning so you can grab some food and take it back up to your room which, by the way, has a fully-equipped kitchen. We loved it that we didn't have to eat out 3 meals a day but could bring in groceries from the nearby grocery store or the Granville Market, or just warm up leftovers if we opted for take-out. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful and very accommodating - can't say enough about them. They will even book tours right from the hotel if you want to see some of the area attractions. The price was so reasonable and it is within walking distance to everything, not to mention 1 block from the transit; we couldn't have asked for more. Don't let the poor photo of the front door fool you. This is a gem of a little hotel in Vancouver. There's no restaurant or pool, it's more of a residence style hotel but the restaurants are just around the corner. If you're looking for a clean, affordable place to stay this is it.

Room Tip: the rooms get larger and more expensive the higher up you go as they have a better view but they are...

I wanted to squeeze one more trip into my summer and decided to check out Vancouver for the first time. I looked through all the hotels listed on TA, and decided to try the Sunset. Honestly, I snore, so whoever I’m traveling with, needs to be in a separate room or no one will get any sleep.

The property is situated on a quiet residential street and about a block from one of the main streets, Davie. We were given a room on the 9th floor, 904. There are only 5 rooms per floor, which was nice. No long walks to the two elevators, which were quiet. Again, the only sound you would hear were doors shutting/slamming, and the cleaning staff in the later part of the morning. Our room faced the ocean and we had a nice view of one of the bridges from the small but adequate balcony.

The bedroom had a king size bed which was very comfortable. The sofa sleeper, which I slept on, was good as well. They offer a small continental breakfast, which means, grab what you want and bring it back to the room. We ended up buying cereal, fruit, coffee, and milk so we didn’t have to leave the room in the morning. Here is where the kitchen is an added plus, and we do like taking our time in the morning. I did think about cooking one evening, after going to Granville Island, but it never happened. However, there’s enough cookware to do so if you’re inclined. Good size dining room table. Good size bathroom, where the hot water comes out quick and is very hot, and the cold water most of the time felt like ice. This was our home away from home for a week.

I only had two issues with the room. The AC in the living room didn’t work very well. I did mention this to the front desk, and I believe they checked on it, but I think it just needs some maintenance and they probably didn’t want to disrupt our stay. Most of the time the air was cool, a few times, the air was cold. The AC in the bedroom was like a walk-in freezer, which was nice. There are about a 200 channels on the tv, but only certain stations came in, so a guide/cheat sheet would’ve been nice. Other than those two things, this is a great property to stay at if you need a central location! You can take a nice stroll to the ferry dock, walk to the close bus stop, or head down about 6 or 7 blocks to the metro. Vancouver is a great walking town.

The staff is great! Everyone was friendly! Especially the young woman who checked us in…I can’t remember her name. Mr. Wright was very helpful through e-mail to get us to the property via public transportation. Oh, and the rate includes kitchen clean up by housekeeping. WOW! But, I still opted to do our own dishes. They also have umbrellas for check out, which we used on one day when there was rain, thunder, and lightening. And the newspaper is delivered to your door every morning. I would most definitely stay here again, if and when I return. We felt like locals. So much so, several people asked us for directions…lol!

Room Tip: If you book online, ask for a high floor if it's possible.
