This hotel is clean, very basic but comfortable. It has some Euro-type charm and the service is great but the main thing is the location, which is just amazing. Especially for the price. Parking is an extra $10-15 a night, FYI. Unless you want a fancier hotel that you plan on spending a lot of time at I don't know why you'd want to stay anywhere else in Vancouver.

Thank-you for your comments and kind words. Parking is $15.00 per night (which is great value for Vancouver), However I do agree with you, why would you "stay anywhere else" when visiting Vancouver? Please come back again soon.

The location was perfect. Car was parked in covered garage and we never had to use it while there. The restaurant had a good breakfast and nice views. The staff was helpful and friendly. The hallways and room could use some more maintenance, missing acoustical tile in the ceiling in hallway. Could hear neighbors tv but fortunately they turned it off by 10. Slept with the windows open and it was quite comfortable; however the sounds of small "mammals" chasing each other through the ivy and landing on the outside window ledge for several minutes at 3:30 am caused us to sleep with windows closed the next night.

Thank-you for your comments, the new menus is getting rave reviews and with the views of English Bay is fantastic. We hope to upgrade the hallways this year in the off season, it is always hard to do upgrades and Reno’s when the hotel is always full. The ivy you mentioned is a blessing and adds to the character of the hotel and it does have its side effects of the animals that on occasion move in the vines. Hope to see you again soon.

Nice, classic interior with a peek-a-boo view of water from our window. Can be a little bit loud at night with people going in and out of their rooms, doors shut loudly. Staff was courteous and breakfast in their restaurant was great.

Short and to the point, our future Guests will appreciate your summary of your stay. I am sorry that you heard some of the doors closing during your stay, when the hotel is full we have allot of Guests coming and going as they enjoy Vancouver. I will be passing along your comments to the Food and Beverage Department about the restaurant service and great quality of the food. Hope you come back soon.

I just wanted to thank the staff at the Sylvia hotel for your service on my recent visit. I only stayed one night while cycling in the recent Gran Fondo event and have to say that your staff was very accommodating. You offered to store our bikes in a secure room rather than leave them in our car over night and then in the early morning hours you had staff on hand to help retrieve the bikes and help us get set up for our bike race (this was at 5 am so very impressive). Your security staff even went above the call of duty by stopping me on my way out to help me properly secure my race number and chip timer to my bike. The fresh brewed coffee in the lobby at 5 am was also appreciated.

The rooms are very basic but that is reflected in the price and parking was free which was greatly appreciated in DT vancouver where on a recent visit with another hotel cost me an additional 36$ per day just to park.

Drinking glasses in the rooms would be appreciated.

You are welcome, service is what we do, I am always happy when I read that Guests comment and notice the effort my team puts into offering great customer service. Marvin my head of Security always works hard to keep the hotel safe and offer as much help as he can to ensure that every Guest enjoys their stay. The parking fee is included in some rates but in most it is not included, we have managed to keep the cost down to only $15.00 per night which like you mentioned in Vancouver is good value. Hope you have recovered from your long bike trip. See you next year?

When visiting in the summer and you don't have plans to spend alot of time in a hotel room, this hotel can't be beat. Across the street from the beach, walking distance to stanley park, the granville island ferry, robson street, the supermarket, lots of restaurants, and shops.

I am going to have to challenge my fellow writers who describe their room as "spacious". I would not use this term for a l bedroom room on my 2 occasions at this hotel. The hotel room decor is very modest and spartan. I realize that many people find this icon on the beach to be like visiting an old friend, I certainly understand. The hotel remains a piece of history.

Please do not expect to find 2 standard american amenities; a coffee pot in the room and newspapers at your front door in the morning.

We stayed at the Sylvia before and after going to Vancouver Island. Different rooms each time but both comfortable and spacious. Great location close to Stanley Park and the small beach on English Bay. Walk to Robson Road shops in about 25-30 minutes, another 5 minutes will get you to the cruise ship terminal, a very helpful Tourist Information Office and coaches for the tourist trips to Capilano Suspension bridge amongst others. If you don't fancy the walk the main shops and the terminal are a short bus ride away. We liked the hotel although the service for breakfast was a bit slow on a couple of occasions, however, the food was good and very nice views over the bay from the restaurant area.

Room Tip: You may want to get a room that isn't adjacent to the lift as opening and closing could wake you...

A wonderful review. So happy that you enjoyed the Sylvia Hotel and Vancouver. It is a walk able city and everything you need is close to the hotel. I agree that the English Bay view goes great with a meal or a drink on the patio. I would like to see you back again soon.

We just completed our second stay at the Sylvia and found it just as pleasant as ever. Cannot beat it for location. The rooms are generous sized and comfortable. They try hard to keep it updated and service is great. Biggest drawback was the lack of wi-fi in an age of Ipods, Ipads, Iphones and such. But we enjoyed using it as a central location to bike all over the city.

Room Tip: Don't expect wifi in your room. But the dishes, pots etc. are basic and decent. Room on the corn...

Welcome back, we do offer many different room sizes and the large rooms are very spacious. The WI IF issues have all been fixed and it is still free and available in all rooms and common areas like the restaurant and lobby, all iPods and phones or iPods all work great. When will we see you again?
