“Lap of budget luxury”
Reviewed 13 October 2011

I found a gem in the heart of Vancouver. The Victoria Hotel is on the edge of Gastown, and is an old mansion converted to beautiful rooms with lovely furnishings. One would never know from the street that it is such a treasure. The hotel is old, and the furnishings are showing their age, but I loved every moment. It was inexpensive, included a great breakfast, and the staff were each warm and helpful.
I had a room with a shared bathroom outside my door. It was a slight inconvenience, but the room comes with a robe and since it is a small boutique hotel, the halls were empty.
It is my new favourite.

We stayed here on our first night after a long flight and for the last five nights of our trip. We had a deluxe king room both times and were very happy. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are really cozy with clean marble bathrooms.

We were also really impressed by the baby-friendly service we received.

Best of all has been the really friendly service - particularly from Cecile. We really enjoyed chatting to Cecile each morning during breakfast and she was extremely kind in organising a late check out for us as we had a late flight.

Overall a really positive experience - and thanks so much Cecile!

A very clean and conveniently located hotel. Rooms can be smallish, but we opted for the queen size bed and the room was comfortable. The shared bathrooms were very clean. Self serve breakfast was ample, Free internet on desktops at several loctions

Room Tip: Street frontage room had a nice bay window

This hotel is very near Chinatown, Old town, downtown, and the waterfront. We found so much to be in walking distance. We stayed in a room with a private bath and it was large and comfortable--a very good value. Breakfast was ample and the food was fresh. We loved talking with Erin at the front desk--she was very helpful to us. There was one staff member who was just business. We would definitely stay here again.

We 've had a room with a shared bathroom. Our bedroom was very small! We stumbled over our luggage to get out of our room. It was also very warm in the entire hotel. The shared bathroom was clean and good. You can also have a light breakfast. It may be a hostoric hotel, but i prefer a bigger room for this kind of money!

Here are the pros:
- Great location.
- Clean, nicely decorated
- Hospitable staff

Here are the cons:
- We were given room 16, which is on the first floor and RIGHT behind the reception desk. Sadly, this meant that we had to deal with hearing any and all conversations being held at the reception desk. Also, in the morning when breakfast is served, people sit right outside our door eating breakfast. You can hear the clanging of the dishes and cups. So if you get room 16, ask for another room.
- The shower head had very little pressure. No matter how much we tried, it just didn't adjust to the pressure of our liking.
- We stayed three nights and not once was our bed made nor did we ever receive new towels. Maybe they were trying to be "green"?
- The noise level is a bit too loud for my liking, especially at 2AM. You can hear the guy upstairs opening and closing his drawers. You can hear the people on the street arguing/talking.

Room Tip: If you get room 16, ask for another room. It's RIGHT behind the reception desk. See review.

Stayed here during August 2011 and felt that the hotel was hugely overpriced for a tiny double room (barely room to move around the bed) and a shared bathroom. Parking was 25 dollars per day on site. Met a number of reception staff during our stay and they were all unfriendly and at times grumpy. Saving grace was the location close to the harbour and downtown areas. But I would not hurry back to this hotel.
