“Just okay......”
Reviewed 12 January 2013

Stayed at this hotel January 12 2012. This hotel is just bordering a very rundown part of Vancouver but only 2 blocks from Gastown. The exterior of the hotel is not nearly as inviting as the photo here leads you to believe. Upon entering the hotel it is very clear that it is old and rundown but since it was too late to find another hotel we grinned and bared it hoping the rooms at the very least would be clean. It was a wonderful surprise to step out of the dingy hallway into a beautiful room.we had 2 soft comfortable beds, a lovely bathroom and a large sitting area I front of bay windows ( although I would not recommend looking out since we were facing a hostel and a Salvation Army) but regardless the option was there.
The biggest complaint I have is the parking. For $20 you can park in their parking lot.....this is a joke! We were driving a half ton truck and after carefully getting the truck parked (after 20minutes) we were only in a worse situation the following morning. Because they allowed to many vehicles in the already small lot we were unable to get out! We had to return to the front desk to have them call another patron to pull their vehicle out so we could get out; the entire situation was frustrating and will be the main reason that we do not return.
Overall this hotel was "ok" but they charge the same as nicer places per night and then tack on the $20 dollars for their terrible parking! I give this hotel a 4 out of 10.

Dear Amanda S,
We appreciate that you took the time to comment on your last stay with us and I am delighted you loved your room, despite the urban view.
I am sorry for the frustration you experienced trying to navigate our parking lot. Estimating parking numbers is not an exact science, given last minute reservations. So occasionally we are forced to improvise and move some cars around to accommodate everyone. In hindsight, we should have recommended the secure lot just up the street, especially considering the size of your vehicle. Again, Amanda, I apologize and hope that you may give us another look after we complete our entrance/lobby renovations and the contractors have left the parking area.

Three visits to the Victorian Hotel (2008, 2010 and 2012)

We spent a week in the lovely Victorian Hotel in Summer 2008 and thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance. The service was impeccable and the facilities charming. The reception area is quaint and cozy with a grand staircase entrance leading to the majority of rooms with lovely décor and beautiful hardwood floors. We stayed in a deluxe en-suite room accommodating two comfortable beds with ample space for our family.

Conveniently located to many of Vancouver’s must see sites (Stanley Park, Gastown, Granville Island). This is an excellent hotel that is a great alternative to the chain hotels. The hotel manager “Cecile” was our own personal concierge arranging many wonderful adventures.

Our 2nd visit in the Fall 2010 did not disappoint us. Our return trip was with our parents and we had requested a 1st floor room since stairs are difficult for them. It was quaint and accommodating and we had a 2nd floor deluxe room that overlooked Pender/Homer Streets. The management had made some major improvements since our first visit. We enjoyed luxurious marbled bathroom and beautifully decorated room and the most comfortable king size bed. As in the previous trip, the hotel manager welcomed us with open arms and it felt like home. We only stayed two days this time. They had converted a room off the lobby where they offered a continental style breakfast. The blueberries were fresh and yummy.

We ventured back a 3rd time to Vancouver in September 2012 with our sister and her childhood friend from Bury England. We spent six nights at the Victorian. The improvements had continued over the last two years. Again our accommodations were impeccable with a deluxe room on the 1st floor and those same wonderful linens and king size bed and toiletries. Our sister and friend had a room on the 2nd floor that had two standard beds and a quaint sitting area. This time we utilized the hotels bicycles. We rode from the hotel to and around Stanley Park then back to the hotel. This is a easy pedal path once your off the busy Pender Street and the park/city has wonderful scenery. We have found The Victorian Hotel to be conveniently located and reasonably priced.

We highly recommend this Hotel as a one of a kind experience and we keep coming back
to welcoming arms.

I stayed at the Victorian Hotel as my last overnight in North America before heading back to Australia. It was recommended by a local as a good place to stay. They weren't wrong!
The bed in room 201 was fantastic. This was an impressively comfortable, big bed in a stylish "Victorian" room. The room was clean, shower was fantastic and complimentary toiletries of high quality.
I had been stuck in Burlington, Vermont due to weather, mechanical problems and then cancelled flights. The Victorian were terrific in their understanding and did not charge me for the missed nights.
Sadly, I only got to spend 10 hours in Vancouver due to the unforeseen delays, however, the hotel is located in a fantastic part of the town that allowed me to have a whirlwind lap of a number of "interesting" local establishments before having to meet a friend and head off to the airport.
Breakfast was included, had a lovely thick yoghurt, fruit and tea. Coffee was there with cereal and muffins etc, I had the breakfast room to myself for the majority of the time I was there.
I'd happily stay there again, only longer next time.

Room Tip: For me a room with a bath was must and can recommend the benefit of doing it.

Dear HBAJ, thank you so very much for your fond words. Everyone knows how excruciating long airport delays are and it certainly is a pleasure to hear that your brief stay with us helped soften the effect. Good luck with your future travels and we look forward to seeing you again.

This hotel is in a renovated old building, rooms have been very nicely done with great bathrooms and large sleeping areas. Very clean. Hallways did not get as good a reno treatment as the rooms. Our room was right on Homer St but noise was not bad. Breakfast a bit sparse (no juice, no eggs, fruit salad not made from fresh fruit) but ok. Location close to gastown, chinatown, downtown shopping, cruise liners. Book on line for a slightly better rate than they will offer you at the front desk

Thank you so much for your comments, we really do appreciate them. With respect to our continental breakfast, we try to provide fresh fruit daily, all year round. However, there are occasions in the winter when we have to improvise a bit and you are right, fresh is best.
Good luck with your journey and we'd love to see you back.

I stayed for a week at the Victorian Hotel, and this is the first time I have ever been prompted to write a review. The hotel is an excellent choice, it is inexpensive, and located in a perfect location downtown to get to most of the sights. The staff were extremely helpful, and I was upgraded to a room with a bathroom for no extra charge. I also requested a room on the ground floor due to having a bad back and this request was met with no complaints. The rooms are spotless and I would definitely recommend it. The only improvement I could suggest is that breakfast is held until 10am (not 9am) as this is early while you're on holiday! Thanks Victorian, it was a great stay.

My daughter and I spent two nights at the Victorian when we were in Vancouver to see the Paul McCartney concert. The concert was spectacular and we loved this hotel.
The location was great, close to Gastown with all its great restaurants and cool shops, close to Robson for more up scale shopping, within easy walking distance of B.C. Place for the concert. The hotel has old world charm, with original fir floors, high ceilings and quirky antique furniture in the common areas. It is a old building, and it shows some signs of a long life, but this gives it so much of its charm. If you want the boring conformity of new builds, stay in the suburbs. The service was friendly and efficient. Our room was comfortable and charming, and very clean, with a great modern bathroom. Continental breakfast is included and is plentiful and tasty. And this place is so affordable. We'll be back!!

Room Tip: If you don't feel it is essential to have an en suite bathroom, opt for a shared bathroom and yo...

Room Tip: 105 was on the main floor with the bathroom and 2 double beds.
