Very clean and safe, the rooms are available also for extended periods (up to 3 months) if booked in advance. In a very central position, the highlights include BC Place, Vancouver Public Library, Robson Street (the most famous shopping street in Vancouver). It's only a few steps away from the Chinatown Skytrain station.
I was travelling alone in September 2011 and my room was awesome, clean and tidy. Communal kitchen available, but pots and pans are available only if rented. If you need Internet Wifi you need to pay extra.
This location is perfect for girls travelling alone. I would definitely come back.

Let me state up front that there was the matter of sharing a bathroom with a floor of rooms, but the slight inconvenience was heavily outweighed by the convenience of being in the center of town. Larger rooms with en suite baths are available at a slightly higher rate. The rooms have been recently renovated and are large, modern very clean and very comfortable. Wi-fi is available in the rooms or on the computers available in the lobby. There are also full self-service kitchens if you prefer to make your own breakfast and an excellent coffee bar in the Lobby if you want to grab a pastry and go. There is no curfew but you will have to ring the bell to be let in. I appreciate this bit of security myself. We received excellent information, directions and suggestions from the front desk staff and found we were an easy 10 minute walk from the waterfront where we caught a water taxi out to Granville Island. I would definitely recommend a stay at this Y and plan to do so myself again in the near future!

Room Tip: If you are on a shared bathroom floor, ask for a room on the same side of the building as the bathr...

We chose the YWCA Hotel because of its location and price. Our experience was excellent, and we will definitely stay here again. The room we got was very clean, large and had a private bathroom. It was also wheelchair accessible and it seemed like there would be plenty of turning room if you did use a wheelchair. Toiletries are provided. The bed was comfortable, and the room contained an iron and ironing board which we appreciated. The reception staff were friendly and efficient. The wifi at $3 per day is reliable and not spotty as is sometimes the case with hotel wifi. Elevator and room security are good. All in all, an excellent choice. There are many coffee shops in the area and it is easy walking distance to much of the downtown.

I was pleasantly surprised when I checked in. There were few people asking the the gentleman at the reception several different questions at the same time ( probably because one of the potential customers had bad English and walked in off the street ) the staff member performed with grace and patience, my check in was smooth, the room was exactly right - which lots of 4-4.5 star hotels don't get right( I requested high floor & quiet). The property is old, the bathroom has a shower only - we are in a double, double room which has a sink next to the open wardrobe ( lots of hangers and an ironing board). If you want a clean room, basic with a Tv on the wall, just a fridge on a secure downtown location, this is good for the price. The bathroom must have been accessible from the room next door at one time, so if you are in the bathroom, you can hear conversation next door and any noise clearly.
The service is 5*+ as the reception staff are knowledgeable, patient and volunteer handy tips..eg where to go and are very obliging.

The cafe only has 3 stools and serves coffee, chai , tea, sandwiches but there's an Italian restaurant next door and you can go into the main part of town which is couple of blocks away.

The fitness centre is actually about. 10 blocks away- I haven't checked it out yet.

We will becoming back this way!

I chose the YWCA Vancouver for my first solo trip mainly based on the reviews posted here on Trip Advisor. The hotel itself is very secure, and the area is fairly safe as well (and within walking distance of multiple transit routes). While I didn't make use of the kitchen facilities (the in-room fridge made a quick early breakfast easy enough), knowing that they were available (along with laundry facilities) was great. My double room was exceptionally clean. I chose the style that had a shared washroom with one adjoining room - it might take some getting used to but I found that the different sets of guests were generally ok at keeping it tidy. The walls at the hotel are a bit thin so be respectful of others. Overall, a great stay and I would recommend it to anyone.

This is the hotel to choose in Vancouver if you are looking for convenience, a great location, safety and a reasonable cost. If you drive to Vancouver, you can park in secure parking for free. The coffee shop in the lobby is good too!
