“Brutal”
Reviewed 3 November 2008

Brutal..........
Valet dinged our car up and the toilet didn't stop running. Also, the room is so small you couldn't spin a top!! There was so much hair in the tub's drain it took forever for the thing to empty. Would not recommend at all. Had a better night at the Holiday Inn Express in Richmond..........brutal.

Typical downtown/center city Marriott with no disappointments. Only 5 minute walk from SkyTrain Station direct to the combined AMTRAK/BUS Station, & soon go to the Airport (thanks to the 2010 Olympics). Recently remodeled. Great location.

We stayed at the Marriott Pinnacleon 9/12, the night before our Alaska cruise. It was a wonderful experience. The customer service from every single employee was outstanding. This was the best experience we have ever had at any hotel.

We had a corner room that looked out over the pier. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding luxurious. Although not a huge room, it was fine for the two of us; It certainly was larger than our stateroom on the ship. There were very nice toiletries including Neutrogena facial cleanser and moisturizer.

We had a three night stay at the Marriott Pinnacle as the first part of our honeymoon in August 08. The staff at the front desk immediately upgraded us on hearing that it was a honeymoon, and went out of their way to make a fuss. As a result we were on the 30th floor, in a corner room overlooking the harbour and North Vancouver - the views were absolutely stunning. The room was as you'd expect from a Marriott, that is to say clean, modern and everything in good working order.

Food in the hotel was good, we had breakfast and room service, both were fine. If you're looking for a cheaper breakfast, try Moonpennies, just behind the hotel. The bar at the Pinnacle was again as you'd expect at Marriott, good range of drinks and cocktails on offer, nice atmosphere.

In terms of location the Pinnacle is excellent. It's a 5 minute walk to the Robson Street shopping district, and is also ideally situated for access to the harbour. We went out to Stanley Park from the hotel, which was a longer but highly scenic walk.

Although we stayed for just three nights, the Pinnacle was a great base from which to see Vancouver and we would have happily stayed longer.

We had a very nice stay over Labor Day weekend. We checked in early on Friday and had a room on the 27th floor with a wonderful view of downtown, part of the port and the moutains. The hotel staff were very friendly and accomodating, attending to our needs very promptly. We travel with our 3 y/o so we're very fussy about who we stay with. We booked directly with Marriott, our room rate had included daily buffet breakfast for two (it would otherwise be approx. CAN$22 I believe) and daily valet parking (CAN$29 daily). We thought it was very affordable considering the comfort and great location. We would definitely return the next time we visit Vancouver.

Near the end of our 3500-mile driving trip through the western U.S. and Canada we stayed in Room 1516 at the Marriott Pinnacle Hotel in Vancouver, BC.
The Pinnacle is located a short stroll from the waterfront and Stanley Park is within walking distance. The main business district is 3 or 4 blocks away.
Upon our arrival the front desk receptionist, “Kat”, tried to get us to “upgrade" into a $50/night more expensive "room with a better view", but did not initially say that it would be at our expense. When we found out that we would be paying for it, we declined.
“Kat”, at the front desk was aware, from our Marriott Rewards member profile that we wanted a quiet room away from ice machines and elevators. “Kat” confirmed this with us at the reception desk. Nonetheless we were taken to a room on the 8th floor directly opposite the ice machine. The bellman who accompanied us, Taylor, phoned “Curtis” to get our room changed. "Curtis" also hit Taylor with the $50 upgrade suggestion which once again we declined. Curtis then "found" Room 1515, a double-double that had "just become available".
While waiting for an appropriate room at our reservation price of $239/night before taxes, we had time to read the fine print on the keycard envelope saying that it was the responsiblity of the guest to decline delivery of USA Today or the Wall St. Journal or else Marriott automatically charges $0.75/day for it. We called to decline as soon as we were settled.
The Pinnacle charges $15.95/day for wired internet – highest rate on this trip to date – but it does include local and long-distance phone. The internet works fine, as it should at these prices.
The bathroom was the best of trip with a huge countertop and a separate stall shower.
The air conditioning works well and the bedroom is nicely furnished with comfortable beds and a corner window -- mostly overlooking other nearby buildings.
Upon our arrival we found a partially used $4.50 bottle of water in the bathroom and it took 2 calls to the “At-Your-Service” line to get it removed from the room and off the bill.
We also had to call “At-Your-Service” once, and got quick response, to get a water glass for the bathroom after housekeeping removed the one we'd been using. Apparently at Marriott hotels there is some sort of contest between housekeeping and room service regarding which is responsible for providing clean glasses for guests. We're not sure if it's housekeeping taketh away and room service returneth, but Marriott management sure needs to figure it out.
Except for outrageous laundry prices, we enjoyed the rest of our stay at the Pinnacle.
The doormen, bellmen and valet parking staff are great. Whenever we returned with our car they would welcome us "home" and ask when we would next be needing the car. Whenever we called "At-Your-Service" to ask for the car it was there when we got to the lobby.
The bottom line is that The Pinnacle is a very good hotel. The front desk and housekeeping staffs need to clean up their acts, but they were redeemed by the friendliness and efficiency of the staff at the front door and by the comfort and convenience of the guest rooms.

  • Liked — Comfort, friendliness of front door staff
  • Disliked — Front desk insistence on pushing higher priced rooms, expensive internet service

I have stayed at several Vancouver hotels -- with the exception of the Fairmont Vancouver Airport, this is the best. Service was fantastic. Food was great. View was unbeatable. Really couldn't ask for more. Yes the price is high - but if you do not like the price you do not have to stay here and in my opinion the price is actually worth it.
