“Amazingly well run, friendly hotel”
Reviewed 6 November 2010

By the time we pitched up at the Delta Vancouver Suites Hotel, we were well and truly exhausted. We had been in transit for more than 40 hours and were beyond good manners and friendliness. We wanted sleep, shower and silence. The receptionist took one look at us and changed our booking to accommodate our frazzled state.

From the first moment we staggered up to the reception desk, to our last minute there, the staff at the hotel were fantastic. Not in a fawning, irritating way, but in an intelligent way which showed that, no matter what they did, they did it with care and pride and were really interested in the guests. The suite was pristine and stayed so every day. When we took the tissue box out of the bathroom because we had the sniffles, the next morning we found there was an additional box on our bedside. When we asked the concierge for directions to a restaurant, he advised us and pointed us in the right direction. A few blocks later, he came running up behind us, just to make sure we were not lost! When we ate breakfast at the hotel restaurant (where the food, newspapers and magazines were excellent) we listened to the relaxed, cheerful chat of the staff amongst themselves. Sometimes they would come over and introduce themselves, ask how we are doing, and recommend a restaurant, happening or transit route. The night concierge even got on a ladder to help me photograph the impressive paintings in the hotel foyer.

Wherever we went, there was always someone giving us a smile and a greeting. I don't know if that is the norm in Vancouver, or whether it is typical of Canadians, but the staff were definitely outgoing and empathetic. After the aggression and tension of Johannesburg, this was amazingly refreshing.

The hotel has great free wi-fi and is situated in the centre of the Vancouver business district. You can quickly walk to many of the sights, beaches and hot spots. Just outside the entrance is a handy little shop that stocks most of the things you usually forget to pack. The view from our room was great and we spent some time just looking at the sunsets over the harbour. We slept like logs because the room seemed sound-proof. The Delta Vancouver Suites fits perfectly into elegant, efficient, modern Vancouver. We'll definitely stay there again.

The hotel room was very clean, quiet, and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and gave us some good tips on local restaurants. It's expensive, but it was an above-average experience.

We started our holiday in Vancouver and this hotel had all we needed, with the bonus of staff members who went out of their way to be helpful, friendly and thoughtful....offering us the use of an umbrella, for example, when they saw us heading out into the pouring rain! The bed was really comfortable, the bath gave plenty of room to soak the travel out of your legs and the coffee maker made a decent cup of coffee, which all helped us adjust to life on BC time.

We enjoyed cycling round Stanley Park and even did a bit of a city tour, feeling mildly smug as we passed cars stuck at the roadworks. We also found our way easily on foot to Granville Island, an interesting spot and the starting point for a great day out with Wild Whales looking for orcas!

The only downside to our stay was the feel of some of the surrounding area... it would be worth taking advice from the very helpful concierge about where to go to eat in the evening, and where to avoid. We are accustomed to just wandering out and walking around till we see somewhere that looks interesting, but that approach left us feeling a bit uneasy once or twice. Nothing serious, but taking advice would avoid the problem.

All in all, an extremely good place to stay, with staff who are actively helpful without being obtrusive about it.

We stayed here on our last night hoping for a nice relaxing hotel room with great views. We stayed in a studio on the 11th floor and paid $179 for the room. When we got there the hotel entrance is nice enough however the hotel is surrounded by sky scrapers and to be in with a view you;ll have to stay on the higher floor for which the hotel charges a ludicrous $25 per person!

The room was poorly laid out, cramped and noisy! It has no Kitchenette so I wouldn't advise stating for any length of time here. Its saving grace is its location which couldn't be better close to the sky train which has excellent links to South and North Vancouver from this point. Its also right on the edge of gas town!

Only stay here if its a steal otherwise its an uncomfortable, stuffy and noisy night for a lot of money....

My husband and I stayed one night at this hotel last Oct.8. It was our 35th wedding anniversary and we wanted to make it a special one. I booked a king bed suite at Delta Hotel. Upon check-in, Brian, a young receptionist upgraded us to a corner suite at the signature club floor which has access to the exclusive signature club lounge. We were very happy and surprised when we came back in the evening after dinning out, there was a plate of sweets (chocolates and pastries) and two bottle of sparkling water beautifully decorated, the bed was tuned down and some romantic background music was being played on the radio. The next morning, we had our breakfast at the club lounge with city view. It really made our anniversary a memorable one.

The corner King bed suite (17th floor)has spectacular view of the city and partial view of the bay, the room is extremely quiet, we could relax and get a good night sleep.

I surely would recomment this hotel to anyone who has a special occasion to celebrate. The staffs are exceptionally courteous, helpful and competent.

Here is a word for Brian: "Brian, thank you very much for making our "day " a very special one!

We booked our room at the Delta Vancouver Suites for our 5th wedding anniversary through AirMiles so were not promised much in the way of a room! We figure we spent about $17,000 in order to get three nights away at a hotel and AirMiles could only offer the "accessible" suite which was disappointing! My husband took it since they weren't offering anything better and then called the Delta directly to see if they could upgrade us, which hotels are certainly not under any obligation to do. He spoke to a very personable and perceptive young woman who said she would "see what could be done - she would put a note on our file." Upon arriving at the Delta a week or so later, we were wished Happy Anniversary by the clerk so obviously that note did make it to our file! We were given a lovely little suite on the 10th floor which was perfect. The rooms are not large but perfectly adequate and comfortable. It did have a separate bedroom, closed off with the Japanese style, opaque glass doors. There was a small fridge, a TV in both the bedroom and living room area. It had a window that opened which I always like even though cities are noisy. I'm from Vancouver and so for me it was like going home and we just wanted to be tourists for the weekend. The location was perfect for us - we walked to Gastown, Canada Place to see the last cruise ships of the season, and Robson Strasse. We had dinner one night at the Water Street Cafe in Gastown - excellent! Public transit (busses and skytrain) are a very short walk down the hill from this hotel so we grabbed a bus over to Granville Island Market. Everything was so easily accessible. When we returned to our hotel room the first night after dinner at Steamworks Pub (great view from the back tables!) we found waiting for us two plates of chocolates, two sparkling waters, and a nice "Happy Anniversary" note from Coco in reservations who must have been the person who upgraded us. Just a lovely touch and much appreciated. We'd stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat.

We visited the Delta on our kids Spring break and really enjoyed our stay there. They gave everyone a warm cookie as we signed in. We got great advice on where to go from the staff and free water bottles for everyone. The price was amazing, would stay again at the Delta!
