Friendly staff, good restaurant quality food, nice rooms. An old hotel that has been refurbished.
My room had a small kitchen which is ideal if staying for more than a few days. Easy walk to restaurants, malls, etc. Bus service at front door. Taxis often wait at hotel. Great views from upper level rooms.

We have stayed here several times and found the location to be very good. We had great views from the rooms we have stayed.
The only thing that is a shame about this hotel is that the windows aren't double glazed and the traffic noise and sirens is extreme. We stayed on the 18th floor and still the noise was very loud.
The rooms are very spacious and include a kitchenette. Our last stay we had a one bedroom suite which had a full kitchen which was great. One thing I would like to see in the kitchens is enough crockery and cutlery for at least four people. They only provide two of everything.

All in all a comfortable stay.

We stayed at the Century Plaza for three evenings in mid-September. Location is the plus at staying at this hotel. Good access to Davie Street, Robson Street and is near the entertainment district. However, we found the hotel rather dirty, and the beds appear to be very old. I could feel the springs of the mattress on my back while sleeping. We found sesame seeds on the old, worn couch when we entered the room. The radiator on the wall was torn apart and needed to be replaced. We won't stay here again.

Dear Lizzie J,

Thanks for your review of the hotel. We're glad that you enjoyed our prime location!

You will be happy to know that all of our carpets, and beds have been replaced, as well as most of our furniture.

I've addressed the cleaning concern with our Executive Housekeeper as well, as cleanliness is something we do take seriously.

Please let us know the next time you are in Vancouver and we will extend a complimentary upgrade to one of our premium suites.

Best regards,

Marshall

Having written a very negative review of this hotel last year, I decided it was time to give them another try as my current favorites (either of the Best Western properties on Granville in downtown) were booked full.

Upon checkin I remembered why I used to like this hotel - nice location, beautiful lobby, and a generous room size although a bit overpriced. But when I went to log onto my computer and check email, I got a rude shock. As of Fall 2011, they now offer in-room wifi but they charge $9 for a 24 hour period! I quickly ran to the bathroom to see if their was a charge for the shower, and was relieved to find that no, showers are still free. Then I thought I best check the tv, perhaps it takes quarters now to operate it for 15 minutes? But no, it's still free as well. Thank heavens the heat and A/C were also still included in the room rates. But having to pay $9 for in-room wifi seems egregious in todays traveling climate.

Although I didn't deign to pay for the privilege of checking emails in my room, I did venture down to the lobby around 9pm on Friday evening to use the free wifi there. I was surprised by how slow the connection is, which made me doubly grateful I wasn't paying $9 for the rights to be frustrated at the slow speeds.

These guys might actually have a decent hotel someday if they didn't nickel and dime you at every turn.

Dear MightyVinyl,

Thank you for taking the time review our hotel again. We're sorry that you had left disappointed with the fact that we charge $9 for a 24 hour internet usage period. We also received your review in house and are glad that you rated our rooms, service, lobby and amenities as very good.

Last year, we invited you to call us directly so that we could offer you a corporate room which includes complimentary internet access. Being an older hotel, structurally it's difficult to offer wifi throughout, as it requires extensive re-wiring of all common hallways and areas. Until we are able to do this, we are still currently employing an outside company to provide internet access, which is why they charge our guests $9 per 24 hours. For those guests who wish to avoid this fee, we do offer complimentary service in our lobby. We also offer corporate rooms which are bookable on our website which include both complimentary Internet access as well as free local calls.

We don't feel that we nickle and dime our guests. In fact, many hotels in the vicinity currently charge resort fees and an extra city tax of 2% which we do not charge. Often times we are the lowest priced hotel in the downtown area and we're constantly offering specials and deals in our restaurant. (Make sure to check our "Special Offer" on this page). We strive to always provide the best possible value and will continue to do so.

We do understand that Complimentary Internet is a deal breaker for you, and as mentioned before, should you decide to stay with us again, we would be more than happy to offer you a corporate room which would be better suited to your needs.

Our best,
Management team

In preparing to go on a cruise, where the airlines cancelled our initial flight out, the staff at the hotel was so understanding. Although I gave less than 24 hours notice of not being able to spend the first night due to the airline cancelling our initial flight out, the cancellation fee was waived. The upon arriving, they generously comped us up to a 2-room suite. The staff was so accomodating to all our needs. Kudos to Tim, Jerry, and the front deskman. I have already name-dropped the hotel to several people while we were in Vancouver and on the cruise ship. Thank you.

The good is the location, but front rooms very noisy facing Burrard. Older places have poor noise insulation. Rooms of good size, with kitchenette but few to no utensils to use so why have the kitchenette. Paint flaking, pool area also tired and needing renovation.

Hop on hop off bus has a stop right out the front, very handy.

Average at best, get what you pay for.

Dear Blackies62,

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your room's kitchen facilities as well as its grand size. It's something we feel sets apart from many other hotels in the city. Unfortunately the downside of being right in the centre of downtown is that there is some city noise. It's not a constant noise all night, but we do understand that some guests are more sensitive than others and we will always do our best to move your room to a more quiet area if one is available (It's best to request this in advance).

Sorry about not having enough cooking utensils in your room! We are currently doing another audit and will be ensuring that the proper supply is ready for guest use. For those rooms that need extra utensils, there is a sign in the kitchen that mentions to call housekeeping, and those will be provided for you at no additional cost. Our pool was also recently renovated just a few years ago, and the pictures on our website are recent. We're sorry that this had left you disappointed. One of the benefits of our pool is that we don't use chlorine, it's actually 'ozoneated', which is better for our guests health and the environment.

We're glad that you enjoyed our location and your visit to Vancouver and hope that you will be back.

Our best,
Management Team
