My sister and I recently travelled to Vancouver to spend a week with our youngest sister. We have both been to the West Coast and Vancouver before, but have never stayed on Granville Island.

We had a late check in due to our flight times, and when we were shown our room we very quickly realized it was much too small for the week stay. We called the front desk and Yuko spent a lot of time finding us another - this was high season and hotel was fully booked.
The second room was lovely, water view and large - much better, thanks to Yuko.

During our stay, we enjoyed the restaurant on site (Dockside), breakfast, lunch, and dinner - everything was delicious and presented very appealingly. As well, the bartender makes a great martini.

Being a small hotel, staff recognize you, and remember your preferences (especially in the restaurant) - makes you feel very comfortable.

One of the things we enjoyed the most was the hotel location - right on Granville Island, a short walk to restaurants, shops, theatre, ferries, and of course wonderful water views.

The prices are comparatively high - but some things are just worth the $.

If I had to make one recommendation for improvement, it might be that the TV channel selection is very meagre - but who spends that much time watching TV with the wonderful views around.

My husband and I have stayed at the Granville Island Hotel a number of times over the years and have seen the changes. Most are all good. Love the Dockside patio upgrade! This last trip was for my birthday and over the weekend with the fireworks show. It was busy at the hotel (at least one wedding...) and being fireworks weekend likely contributed to a full house. This time was the worst room we have ever had at the hotel. Small, obstructed window. Even our worst room was still a really good room. It faced east, was very quiet, and the bathroom upgrade was wonderful. Our luck with amazing rooms had to run out sometime... :-) We love it that we can park the car and walk everywhere. We rented the bikes this trip and rode along the seawall for a few hours. (For the price of the room, the bikes should be free...) My best recommendation is to visit Granville Island in the spring or fall when it's not so crazy busy. We have always gotten a better room, and a bit better service during the quieter months. Still love this place and will be back again.

Room Tip: Ask for a water view room - it's worth the extra money.

While we were initially placed in a room too small for 3 people (our reservation was for 3 people) this was rectified by the hotel the next day and we were fairly compensated. The satff were all great. We ended up in the restaurant bar area each of the 4 nights of our stay as we enjoyed it so much. I was pleasantly surprisedto find they have their own micro-brewery onsite. The Island itselfis full of all sorts of artsy shops and restaurants. Fairies take you over the bay to downtown A geat place for couples and for families. We went to the food market ( a real traditional market) every day. We loved the entire experience!

Room Tip: Rooms in the original wind are larger. Try to get a water facing room.

What a fabulous location and well appointed hotel. The bathrooms are big, beautiful and modern. The room was small, but ell organized and we fit our family of four in two beds comfortably. The highlight was Granville island market and shops, and once we learned how the traffic flowed, how accessible it was to Stanley Park, central Vancouver and the beaches.

Great location on Granville Island so you can spend a couple of days exploring the public market and shops. It is an excellent patio restaurant. According to the hotel, the restaurant was voted best patio restaurant. We expected an older hotel but it is fresh and beautiful. The staff was very helpful and we really enjoyed our stay.

Granville Island is one of my favorite places in this great city. This hotel allows visitors to take full advantage of its charms - the market, the theatres, art galleries, restaurants and shopping. The hotel is clean and comfortable, staff were polite and responsive. Great stay.

Room Tip: You need to ASK for a water view if you want one.

Upon entering this grande suite, I knew my husband and I were going to have a magnificent weekend. Skyhigh ceilings with panoramic windows overlooking the ocean adorned with royal drapery, an absoulutely massive deck that wrapped around front and side of suite, gorgeous Rosewood style cabinetry, stainless steel full kitchen, inviting living area, large lovely dining area, all topped with gas fireplace. The masterbedroom was equipped with an enormous in room jet tub clearly built with luxury in mind. Room service for breakfast on both mornings was very quick, scrumptuous and filling! The suite is incredible, an absolute must for Honeymooners, anniversaries, birthdays or as a Grand Gift for those who have everything. We have stayed in many hotel suites in Vancouver, but by far, this is our favorite if you want a luxurious getaway, Granville Island Hotel Penthouse Suite should be your first choice. It most certainly is ours now!
