Lovely hotel. Rooms are nicely appointed. Great indoor/outdoor lounge downstairs. Awesome friendly staff.

Beware: walls are paper thin, beware if noise intrusion bothers you or you're a light sleeper. Also: We had the misfortune of arriving on a holiday Monday afternoon. Traffic onto Granville Island is uncontrolled and there are far more cars on a busy weekend than parking spots. Result of which is gridlock as an army of drivers inches their way around the island looking for nonexistent parking spots. It took us 15 minutes to drive the three blocks from the entrance to the island to the hotel. Getting a taxi would have taken twice as long so we ended walking back out to our dinner at Jehrico Beach. Not fun.

That aside, staying on the Island is so lovely. The following morning, sans traffic, was very nice, coffee in the market and some quiet time on the waterfront.

We paid ~15% less than what it would have cost for a hotel downtown and aside from the traffic snafu and thought it was very good value. This hotel is still a little bit undiscovered. Check it out before the hordes descend.

Dear Summer123456,

Thank you for your review - I'm glad you hear you enjoyed your stay, and I am sorry to hear you had trouble with traffic. Granville Island is a late 70's planning experiment that did everything right except for cars - in that too many people still bring their cars here, especially on a beautiful summers day! I see it as traffic on a busy day and the lack of roads and parking only contribute to the vibrancy of the place, making it more about the people, than their car. Its all part of the undeniable uniqueness that is Granville Island, but I am glad you got to see it when its quiet too!

I hope to see you again soon!

All the best

We returned to the hotel with all of our family to celebrate our 50th anniversary as this is the place we chose over anywhere else. Hotel was great and the service as well. Not too happy about our meals at the restaurant but perhaps the cooks had an "off" night. We chose not to return the following night.

We went for the vaulted ceiling room, but didn't get it. We paid an additional fee for an upgraded room with a view--that was blocked by lots of trees!!! The only highlight of this hotel is their stupendous nighttime dinner/lounge. It makes you feel like you are in Miami with it's trendy decor and breathtaking views.

The hotel is an exceptional get-away with professional service from the time you park your car to checking out. Jessy (? I'm sorry if thats not correct) the valet was quick and on top of assisting us before the engine shut off. We watched him single-handedly master a wedding party in 90 degree weather! Check in was so helpful, letting us know what was going on locally (firework competition) and how to get around easily. Room was beautiful - we had a balcony overlooking the marina, it is small but perfect for a glass of wine and watching the goings on of the water traffic. It was our anniversary so we ordered the romance package and it was perfect. We ate breakfast onsite and enjoyed our meals, sitting both inside and outside. The housekeeper gave us complimentary water bottles on our way out for a hot day of touring. We will be back for sure. No negatives.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room.

We are a family of 2 adults and 2 young children who stayed at the hotel in August 2014. Overall, we were very happy with our stay and the property in the general.

We had a corner room with a spectacular view east-facing over False Creek, a room that, despite being over the restaurant and with people walking along the water directly below us, was drop-dead quiet.

We had a pull-out couch and a large (California king?) bed. Very cozy.

The staff were attentive and listened carefully. A couple of times we had specific requests (more towels, empty the bar fridge, change room cleaning times) and these were met.

The bathroom was very large and the shower was great - a large rain-style shower with a handheld attachment. And it had a blue light in the head - interesting feature.

Close to the market - no more than 5 minutes' walk (and of course driving into Kitsilano or into Vancouver was easy, as was taking the ferry up False Creek).

Despite my initial concerns, parking was no trouble. Once or twice I think we nabbed the last spot in the parking area, but we were assured we could park elsewhere with little trouble if no spots were left.

A couple of things: this hotel isn't particularly kid-oriented. Small examples: no bathtub in our room. For kids, they love baths; our two-year-old was afraid of the loud shower. There is also no swimming pool (though a jacuzzi, sauna and exercise room). It is posh, it is boutique, it does cater to a certain segment. We were only able to stay because I received great rates through my employer, otherwise no. Because the hotel had no real kitchen or kitchenette we had to eat out most times which probably added a few hundred dollars to our eating bill over our stay. Also, the Wi-Fi was spotty at best, though free.

One bizarre side note: this hotel does apparently host business meetings (probably for local businesses/teams who want a nice location to meet) and at one point, though we were on the second floor, it appeared a few members from one of the groups had moved a portion of their meeting to the lobby area on our floor, and were having some kind of psychotherapy session. One woman was in a chair, in some kind of lucid dream, and another woman was firing questions at her: "What do you see in your inner dialogue?" "I see pastels and some background going by." "Do you know what it's trying to tell you?""It tells me things I think are real." It never disturbed me in any way, it just seemed... odd. And they must have been going at it for an hour at least.

Overall, I'd definitely stay again if I got my company rates and the kids were a little older.

Dear Benjamin M

Thank you for your review and thank you for staying with us. I'm glad your company brought you and your family our way. Next time you can visit, ask for a room with a tub, as about a third of our rooms have them.

Thanks for the laugh too! I know exactly the meeting group you are talking about! They were a great group, and though I knew they were all over the hotel looking for one on one space, I didn't know they had made it upstairs too!

We'll see you next time!

All the best,
